I have an insurance question for everyone. I’m a 54 year old male with a clean record in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. My car and my Blast insurance are through All State. The Blast cost next to nothing to insure: only $267 dollars a year. Since I’m in the market for an XB I got a quote on both a 2005 XB9 and an XB12. I asked for street versions of both, not an R. The 9 was $450 a year which I didn’t think was all that bad but the 12 was almost $833 a year. That seems like a pretty big jump to me for only a 10% bigger engine. Why the big jump when I go to the XB12? Besides the horsepower everything else is pretty comparable. Is this the general experience or are the good hands people giving me a hand job on this one? |

Anything over 1000cc can start to cost you. The longer you have either one the cost will come down. I have an 05 XB9S starting cost to insure $950. Current price $349. This is for the year and over the last 3 yrs of ownership. |

Check out state farm. I'm 29, clean record and multi line (truck, trailer, house, bike, etc) My 9r is less than 300 for a year full coverage. I work at a dealership and the majority of customers find out that state farm has the lowest rates on bikes |

Vortec, Thanks for the tip, I'll check State Farm. I pay the insurance for my 17 year old son's car and it costs an arm and a leg each month with All State. I have a 99 Tacoma and he drives a 90 Buick. I have not had a claim in over 7 years now and it's still $310 a month for minimal coverage. |

My Allstate agent told me I'd get a better deal getting my motorcycle insurance from progresive. Mind you I have auto/life/homeowners from allstate. She said there prices on motorcycles and boats are high. Got to love the honesty! |

I figured that All State was high but for the sounds of it, I'm getting raped. Well, time to do a little shopping it sounds like. What does every one else pay? |

I have my 05 xb12r through Progressive. My first xb was totaled within 4 months, they charged me $900 that first year. They replaced it and my rate has dropped steadily each year. This year I added my 07 Chevy Colorado 4x4 and I only pay $1100 for the year for both ($500 bike / $600 truck). |

Insurance quotes are a joke. Yesterday for the hell of it i looked on E-surance, they wanted $1400 a year for my 06 SS, and for shits and giggles i said 06 9SX, they wanted $3500 for that! A 09 CR was almost twice that.... |

I also have a "Safe Driver" endorsement on my license. Haven't had a wreck since Aug of 2002 and no tickets since April of 96. All State will wanted $866 for an XB12. I don't freakin' think so Jack. Not when I have my car insurance and my Blast also through A.S. |

Gieco kicks azz!!! Live in Florida, clean record, 37 w/ a 98S1W and 08XB12R, full coverage on both. $47 bucks a month for both, though my deductable is $1000 I believe. Both Progressive or Allstate were pricey!!! Even though I have my cage through Allstate, that didn't help. I have Progressive since ALL my vehicles are insured through them - but I'm shopping around. I'm also 54 and feel that I can do better. You CAN get some good deals on moto-only insurance underwriters but that seems to vary greatly. You might slap those "good hands" - see if they might cut you some slack? I know my Progressive agent did reduce my rates when I called after getting my 3rd bike (in addition to 3 4-wheeled vehicles) insured. Again, I'm not recommending Progressive, just that you maybe call your agent and see if he/she will work with you - otherwise check out the ads in American Motorcyclist for Moto-insurance. |

If you're younger than 25 and own a 1000cc+ State Farm is insane. I pay around $120 a month for full coverage on my 2000 X1. They don't give me any discount for having taken the basic and expert MSF courses, having a perfect driving record, etc.. "I'm too young and riding a 1200cc 'Harley' that is expensive to fix if it is wrecked." is what I was told yesterday on the phone. Coming from the same people that were convinced my 07 Blast was an ATV. It was a waste of time to try explaining to my agent the difference in a japanese 1000cc I4 and an American V-Twin.. It just PISSES me off to get treated like a kid thanks to some dumb squid with a hyabusa and no common sense. |

I'm 31, single and have 3 motorcycles and 2 50cc scooters insured with Geico. I have a clean driving record and 1 accident about 2 1/2 years ago that was my fault. I pay $850/year for liability and comprehensive only (no collision). Once that accident rolls off, it will be about $500. for 5 vehicles. |

just food for thought... I have an 04 XB12S, and I am 22yrs old with no tickets or wrecks on record, and own a home. I have my insurance with progressive, full-coverage with $500 deductible. It is costing me $305 a year. |

Try them all. In MD, you can't beat Progressive so it might be state by state. I pay $374 TOTAL for an 06 VRod, 07 Buell XB12STT, and 06 KLX250S. Full Coverage. I'm 43 and have been riding for a couple years. And took the state safety course. |

I live in Valrico- just outside Tampa. 31, single, clean record and no recent tickets (it's been over 2 years). My 09 Ss is right at $650 and change yearly through State Farm. This is for the same coverages as I have on my truck: 100/300/100 unstacked PIP/Liab/Prop Damage Uninsured motorist Comprehensive & collision $500 deductible Roadside assistance Rental coverage |

Grady, I'm also in the Tampa Bay area. I live in Safety Harbor. That is the Clearwater/Dunedin area. Since we're in the same insurance market I'd think you experience would be similar to mine. |

State Farm for me, multi-line. 34,male, 04 XB12S, no violations or claims, less than $300 a year for full coverage including uninsured and under-insured. Nobody can come close. The only downside is they don't offer any discounts for MSF classes. gbr |

Here in Ontario is you haven't had bike insurance for at least 12 months of the previous 3 years they class you as a new rider and surcharge your rates about 50% plus another 50% for a sportbike. For you guys that are paying only a couple of hundred a year how much liability insurance does that give you? Here in Ontario the law says you must carry $500,000 but most people carry $1,000,000 or more because its only an extra $10 or so a year. |
