I've been here in Ellijay Georgia since Sunday. That's 45 miles West of Suches and TWO Campground. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on gas. When I got here there was no gas. On Monday we finally found some but was limited to 10 gallons. Yesterday I was limited to $20.00 purchase but it was Premium. Mostly what you find is Regular and lines getting it. Today was better and I'm hoping it keeps going that way. I would still use the half tank rule. If you've gone 100 miles or so and you see gas, get some. I don't mean to scare anybody, I just don't want anybody on the side of the road. If your coming from the North then fill up in Tennessee or the Carolina's. It seems Georgia is the only problem. For those that can make it, I'll see you there. Greg (tootal) |

Greg, Thanks for the heads up. I'm coming in from SC tomorrow. The 100 mile suggestion seems to be a pretty good idea. From what I can find on the net there seems to be gas available in Augusta, Athens, Gainesville, and Dahlonega, so that should get us to Suches easily. I know some folks that are trailering are bringing gas in cans, so hopefully we can get some if we get caught low at Suches. I spent a week in Blue Ridge, GA this summer and made a couple of trips over to Ellijay. If you haven't tried it yet, take 52 N/W up to Chatsworth; it's a pretty good road. If you're looking for a serious gravel road adventure, try this: http://blueridgemountains.com/printer%20friendly%2 0maps/Cohutta%20Driving%20Tour%202.pdf I did it while I was there. Imagine the Dragon except twice as long and with ~4" deep gravel most of the way! I only saw a couple of other folks on the whole trip. I'll be the views would be awesome now. Hope to see you at Suches. |

I am on my way down from NY, currently in Virginia. Once i cross into NC, I will be filling up every 100 miles regardless. |

Hughlysses, I am from St. Louis so I am forced to take Ft. Mountain when I visit my friends here. This was the first time I have done it on the Uly. Wow, what a hoot! It's fun on my Geezer Glide but the Uly is awesome. You're right, great road. I have taken the Old Georgia 2 before in a Geo Tracker but want to do it on the Uly sometime this week. My friend rides an Ultra so it's not something we can do together. |
