Does anyone know of any bags that will fit an '06 Lightning Long with a tail chop? From what I understand, most saddlebags utilize the rear fender for securing. I'm looking to purchase something over the next couple months (no hurry) for a trip next year. Any input and/or pictures would help. Thanks in advance. | ||

I have a set of Nelson Riggs silverstream bags, the larger ones. They fit really nice, and I have the cheese grater eliminated. I will post some pics when I get home, I dont have them uploaded to photobucket yet. Went on a 300 mile ride 2 weekends ago when them, they held up great. Look really nice IMO. | ||

Got the Cortech Sport saddlebags. Fit just fine w/o cheesegrater. I did have to reinstall my passenger pegs though. Nels | ||

I too run the Cortech sport bags. Like em much. I have cheesegrater eliminated and have passenger pegs. | ||

I got the buell bags and they do not use the grater they use the passenger peg mounts to secure them and the blinker reflectoe thingy which I do not even use | ||

If you have a welder you can make pretty much any thing work with the generic bag hoops... Just stay away from the kind of backyard shenanigans that occurred over on the ZX forums. | ||

Here are the pics of my Silverstream bags. They mount with two straps on the subframe rails, and one under the license plate that connects the two. It can be put on or taken off in 5 seconds with three clips. I dont usually keep my passenger pegs on, and I do plan on making some rails to mount where the passenger pegs mount to keep the bags flat.    | ||

I don't have/know a welder, but I do have a "friend" with a drill. Thanks to everyone for suggestions. I like that kreiga us-20 bag. It looks durable. Maybe that bag and a set of saddlebags would do well. I'm looking to take a three week trip with minimal gear. | ||

The Buell bags for the Long use straps that go under the seat to support the bag, then 2 straps that attach to the pass peg brackets to keep them from moving rearward. On the back of the bags are velcro straps that feed through the side reflector brackets to keep them from moving forward. I used a set on a recent 4k trip, and like them. Don't know if the fore/aft straps are even necessary. | ||

The Kreiga bags are durable and 100% waterproof. Really happy with them, and as I said, you can always buy the other bags and just keep building off of it. | ||

That Kreiga set is pretty cool, but the fact that they're actually waterproof makes them AWESOME. I hate having to stop and get out the rain covers.  If ever this economy straightens up enough for me to be brave and spend again, I think I'm going to invest in these. ~SM | ||

Hey Joseph, I run the Buell saddle bags on my '06 Ss with the tail eliminated without any problems. I also ride with the Buell tail bag which means I have no need for the passenger footpeg assemblies, as I have no desire to ever ride passengers. But, you do need the passenger peg assy. to mount the saddle bags. I ended up hacking up my peg assy. down to a single 3 1/2" post and tossed the rest of the v shaped assembly in the trash. The beauty of this, is when I remove the saddle bags (I don't need them mounted all the time) all that's left of the peg assy. is the 3 1/2" post. The tail bag never comes off. This keeps a very clean look to the bike (with the bags off) and still allows me to quickly and soundly mount the bags in about a minute. I could post some pictures if that would help you, but have no fear of mounting the Buell saddle bags with the tail eliminated. | ||

+1 on the Cortech Sport bags with the tail eliminated. I'm not sure if they'll slide of the back of the seat when I get rid of the rear signals and get an LED setup as I attach to them and they signals act as a backstop. | ||

I don't know how the Cortechs could slide back? They strap to the pegs up front... They work great on my XB9S with cheesegrater eliminator and no rear turns. | ||

My Cortechs don't move an inch when installed. The passenger pegs keep the outside bag from leaning into the wheel on a turn while the straps prevent the inside bag from 'flying' out. Also the two burly velcro straps under the seat are held pretty tight w/the seat in place. These bags aren't going anywhere. Used them on our 7-day 3209 mile trip from Houston to LA and back. Here are the bags on use on my lightning. They are made by First Gear and I love em. Because of the bags I now can use my bike as a daily commuter to work.   I still have the cheese grater on there but its not used to keep the bags on. | ||

I chopped my tail and I also have set of the venture mounting brackets. I can use any saddlebags made, as long as a passenger is with me. I however use the Fieldsheer sport bags. I have had them up to 100 mph with a camera mounted on them and no movement that was anything to woory about. | ||
