Dangit, I KNOW this has been posted somewhere already, but none of my Searches have turned up anything. Can someone give me a quick rundown of the pieces needed to change my Lightning fairing out to a Firebolt fairing? Or maybe just point me at the right thread? I already know the ignition switch will have to be rigged or replaced and the gauges are a direct swap, but I don't know what else is involved. Much appreciated! ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on October 01, 2008) |

"Find someone wanting to do an R to S swap..." No, the R-to-S conversion requires wiring harness swap in order to fit fusebox, ECU, etc. There's insufficient space inside the XB-S front module for all the XB-R front end electrical components. For the XB-R front end install on an XB-S Lightning, you need the following: magnesium front fairing stay XB-R headlights assembly (headlights + mount) XB-R front brake line XB-R front fairing and windshield XB-R mirrors* XB-R triple clamp top* XB-R handlebar stubs* XB-R ignition/lock set* (incl. gascap and tail lock) *-you might be able to avoid these items, but face the following challenges: (1) find handlebar that won't interfere with the XB-R front fairing at full lock; (2) come up with a way use the XB-S ignition/lock with the fairing stay installed... not sure this is possible; (3) use bar end mirrors instead of the XB-R mirrors. I bought all of the above for the same front end conversion. Did the initial mock-up and then reverted back to original Lightning front end. Still considering using the XB-R triple top for trackdays, though. |

Ah, that's not so bad as I might have thought. Thanks a bunch! ~SM |

Hey, how much can I expect to pay for a plastic R fairing? Fiberglass seems to be running between $130 (ebay) to $200 (Airtech)... I would assume the plastic is cheaper? ~SM |

"Hey, how much can I expect to pay for a plastic R fairing?" New price unknown. Guessing that you'll want to match your preexisting airbox cover, fender, chin cowl (if still installed). Oh, just checked your profile, so you'll be on your own to color match Sunset Orange for the front fairing. Or find a new/used 2nd set of XB-R plastics. |

You can use the stock ignition. You just need some spacers for the bolts holding the ignition. That's the setup I have. R front using stock upper tree and ignition lock on my XB12Ss. |

Yeah, the plan (if I proceed) is to nab a white Firebolt front fairing and have some Sunset paint matched. ~SM |

Does anyone know if the Crossroads 0-degree bars would fit as opposed to the Firebolt triple and bars? Is there somewhere else to mount the ignition if you don't use the Firebolt triple? Dcmortalcoil do you have a pic of your finished swap? |
