I have a Jul '08 build 1125. How can I tell if the clutch cover is the rev B type? I searched the forum and could not find an answer. Thanks, Doug |

The you have a Jul 08 build odds are it has the rev A clutch cover as all 08's came with the original design. On the 08's the black puck is the same size on both sides. On the rev B clutch cover (09's) the black puck on the clutch cover is much larger that the black puck on the stator cover. |

Bryan, thanks for the reply. For everyone: what are you planning to do about your revA clutch cover? Wait till it gets wiped out from a crash or replace it now? |

I'm waiting for mine to leak - then I can get Buell to pay for it. But, so far so good... Jack |

Mine is leaking and was supposed to be replaced with the new cam. Instead I got a new puck, misunderstanding on which "cover". I'll get it done when we have a blizzard coming in a few months. Just bought a bottle of Dot4. Z |

Got my rev b cover put on as part of the warranty maintenance on the leaky clutch. I purchased the cover since I ground it down against the pavement, but the seal replacement was covered under warranty. I hope this finally fixes the leaky clutch problem. I am still not clear on how the new cover addresses the seals leaking-by on the clutch, which is in a sleeve (a point brought up by my Buell tech, which makes sense). time will tell. I have been getting about 3 months out of clutch seals. I have also had the entire clutch assembly replaced once to address the problem. Mike |

After the Rev B upgrade and replacing all the O-rings, my clutch is still weeping. The next step is to replace the entire hydraulic portion of the clutch, again. At least my turn signals have not gone out. The total now is 4 sets of O-rings, 1 replacement of all hydraulic parts including O-rings, 1 upgrade to Rev B cover and it is still leaking. At least this is all under warranty, with the exception of the Rev B cover, since I damaged my Rev A cover. Mike |

Interesting, Mike. I was talking to Rocketray the other day and I might pass on a new cover and instead, replace the o-ring and two "piston sleeves". Depends on what the cylinder wall looks like. Z |

Zac, I was talking to my Buell tech and he brought up a good point that the sleeve along with the O-rings is what is either keeping the fluid in or out, not the cover. I would agree with you, that the sleeve and piston replacement would be a better route than the cover replacement. I have already had the sleeves, O-rings, and pistons replaced once, though. I hope that it is not like the directional signals and there are several "bad" clutch parts in inventory. When I had this discussion with my Buell tech, it made sense to me, but I already had the Rev B cover (because I had damaged my Rev A cover) and they already had all the O-rings. If they are going to replace your cover under warranty, definitely replace it. The puck is much better. If you are coming out of pocket for the clutch cover, then the money is better spent elsewhere. Just my thoughts having come out of pocket for the cover and still with a leaky clutch. Mike |

Z, I forgot to mention that the sleeves are aluminum and we also tossed around the idea of having the sleeves manufactured out of stainless, titanium, or cromolly. The last time he replaced my sleeves, they were worn pretty good. I only have 6400 miles on my bike right now, so there is no reason for that much wear. I do live in NY and have to use the clutch more than people that do not drive a lot in traffic, but it still does not make sense that these sleeves are wearing out so fast. Not sure why they used aluminum for the part, but if we decide to go that route, I will let you know what happens. Mike |

oh and i would think that it would get progressily worse too because the dot4 would eat away the gasket |

the leaking I have is on the bottom under the puck, now on the puck itself with the Rev B cover. There is a small hole just below the puck on the cover a "weep hole". If it is coming from the cover toward the front, I would either try tightening the cover bolts or take it to the dealer and have them see why it is leaking. When it comes from the weep hole it is leaking by the seals (O-rings) around the piston and sleeve inside the housing. It sounds like the situation you described is different. Mike |

ahh i see. ill check the torque readings. but my 1000 mile service is coming up, so ill probably schedule it then. maybe it was from the accident? i can see maybe it jaring the cover enough to break the seal. i imagine i could switch it my self. i guess its time to study the service manual again |

This is where my cover has been leaking and most others that I know of with a leaky clutch problem. The weep hole where the fluid is leaking is just beneath the puck on the cover.

umm i was just got back from my folks house and i proceeded to check the torque values of my clutch cover and they turned without effort. they werent even 1 ft pound. so i just tightened them slightly probably 2-3 ft pounds. jeeze wonder why it was weepin. has anyone had so loose of bolts? it seems to by a rubber gasket too so i just slightly buldge it out. ill go check the torque values in the book... |

If they replaced your rev.b under warranty then they forgot to order it. Have them rectify that. If you ground down your original clutch cover via a low side like I did and replaced it out of pocket then you forgot to order it. That can be rectified as well. I am in Vegas (post Inside pass) and do not have my parts book or I would post the part number. Also I removed my old emblem from my old cover but have not tried glueing it back on yet. |

Small point, but it looks like they swapped the direction of the Pegasus emblem for the revision... kinda makes sense, having the horse's head facing the front of the bike now... |

It appears the pegasus faces forward on the RevB and backward on the RevA. Interesting point for any future buell trivia games. The larger cap/puck should stand up to a bit more sliding than the original. Pariah, beat me to it...lol (Message edited by Oddball on October 05, 2008) (Message edited by Oddball on October 05, 2008) |

I had to order the new 1125R sticker for the new cover. If you notice, the stickers are different on the cover (the Buell in the background is more pronounced and the background color is a little lighter) as well as the direction of the pegasus on the puck. The weep hole is also on the puck now instead of on the cover. The pegasus sticker on the puck comes on the puck when you order the new clutch cover. Jmr1283, Remember that the last time that clutch cover was touched was not at the factory, unless you do not have the recall maintenance (installing the oil jet) done yet. It is possible that when the recall maintenance was done on your bike that somewhere, tightening the bolts to torque got lost in the shuffle. It is also possible and probably the case, that they vibrated loose over the last few hundred miles if the person performing the maintenance did not use locktite. Just some thoughts. On my 3rd set of seals, the 'o' rings which have failed are still on back order after several months. One pair of boots also ruined. (Message edited by crowley on October 06, 2008) |

hey guys, my bike has been sitting for the last month because my girl and i went up north wisconsin ridding and after a short day of riding when we got back to the lodge the belts were showing in the middle of the rear tire ( guess thats what happens to the stock tire at 6800miles and then 4hours of freeway riding... ). anyway her cousin trailered the bike down to us, but i noticed that the clutch cover has some scratches so at some point it must have fallen over. now the weep hole spits fluid whenever i pull the clutch. my question is will the dealer cover the leak under warranty?? i already had the new cover last year. |
