as you let the clutch out, the RPM's automatically go up. i used to be able to hold a (very jerky) 8 MPH slowest speed in first gear idling ... now when i release the clutch in 1st gear, it automatically accelerates to a little over 2000RPM this has only been happening since i got the 3rd ECM reflash last weekend. |

Pizza, my bike is a Nov. 07 build and it has done that very thing since new. I only notice it when I let the clutch out slowly. Seems normal to me. JJ |

Mine has done it since new also. There was a thread about it way back |

Mine too from new but, it's more noticeable when it's not surging at low rpms. Later Neil S. |

Computer raising idle to keep it from stalling. It's normal. |

i have an april 08 build, and this is a completely new behavior to me. every fuel injected vehicle will adjust its idle speed depending on the load on the engine to maintain its set idle rpm. examples are power steering, or A/C compressor loads; you can watch your vehicles idle speed fluctuate and then re-adjust as the different accessories work. its odd for an ECM to over compensate by RAISING the RPM almost 1000 RPM over idle when it recognizes its in gear, not necessarily with a load on the engine that is bringing it below its standard idle speed. how silly! |

I assumed you were talking about under a load when you said "i used to be able to hold a (very jerky) 8 MPH slowest speed in first gear idling... now when i release the clutch in 1st gear, it automatically accelerates to a little over 2000RPM". Were you not? If you are putting it under a load (below normal idle) by letting the clutch out in gear without opening the throttle, the computer will try to raise the idle to compensate. It will also bring it back down if it is too high. If that is not what is happening maybe you should get it looked at. (Message edited by dentguy on September 26, 2008) |
