I carry my helmet with me. The factory idea is to pop the seat, slide the helmet over one of the plastic pins on the tailsection, and then re-latch the seat, but I don't like that especially without a locking seat. I guess that you could just get a padlock and padlock it to ont of the tie down holes on the rear subframe. |

If anyone's ever seen how profusely my pores pour, they wouldn't touch my lid unless they were in biohazard suits. I've never really woried much about it personally - though I couldn't get myself to trust the Blast's helmet nubs. -Saro |

Pop the seat and look at the tailsection, there are two plastic pins/nubs for the helmet D-rings. |

I allways carry a pad lock, and a 4 foot cable, I think it is 1/8" diameter that is plastic coated. That way I can lock my helmet, jacket and bike all together. The cable is thin enough to coil up and put in a jacket pocket. |

Swampy, I like your idea. Is your cable homemade or store bought? I know I've got some 1/4" floating around at work... |

I was wrong its 1/8" plastic coated. Its home made. It is very difficult to cut with bolt cutters and gumms up bolt cutter jaws, so it takes a while to cut through. But at the hardware store they have a machine to cut it off. The total leanght is 6' and it rolls up nice and tight and stores in my jacket pocket.

I installed a helmet lock to the underside of the frame, LH side, just below the seat. Bought the lock from local HD dealer. Think it may have been a HD accessory?? Did not have to drill any holes as I remember. Has worked flawlessly for the last 19,000 miles. |

Shown here at work securing my brain protector... Will also work when I have the Buell saddle bags mounted.
Open wide!!! Ready to receive D-ring. Note the H-D registered trade mark stamped in the lock body just to the left of the key. BTW I use a zip tie to fasten my keys together rigidly. That way they stay together and when rigidly fastened, the extra helmet lock key won't damage the paint around the ignition switch when riding. H-D part number is 45732-86. Purchased from H-D shop.
Yes it is a chromed HD accessory but with time the chrome dulls to blend in with the bike's silver color.
This lock was originally designed to attach to the handle bar. Discard the other half of the handle bar clamp. I made a plate which allowed the helmet holder to be mounted longitudinally. There are already 2 holes in the bike's frame plate at this location. Just trace those 2 holes onto the plate. You can see the threaded end of the plate mounting screw sticking thru the plate directly above the back side of the lock cylinder. Then mount the helmet holder to the plate. The other reason I employed a plate is that I won't drill holes in my bike unless there is absolutely no other alternative. Hope this helps. I have used this since around 1/2003 with trouble free service. Just a little lube in the keyhole once a year...... Don Thank you - that looks to be a very handy item! GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Thanks for the info on the helmet lock. It gets tiresome having to carry the helmet around all the time. Tom |
