Buell LSR dude: >And don't even think that these responses constitute a rise Sportster LSR dude: >Oh, I'm sorry for being rude. It's just so NOT like me. The rumors are true, if you want a real rise, you need a Sporty (Hey George, I might be heading over to the OH/Penn border to help a friend pick up a V-Strom. Wanna race?) |

All the sites seem to be ratcheting back the chances for rain as this cold front moves through this weekend. The satellite images all look clear, too. It's been dry for almost a week now. Two years ago when this event was cancelled they announced it on the Friday before the evnet (i.e. this Friday). |

Aaron, I remeber two years ago they had a bunch of Snow, starting with the September event. Weren't you stuck in Wyoming that year?? Stay focused and positive, miracles happen. I think you need heat and wind for drying the salt tho, and this hasn't happened. Would love to see a photo of the course as it is today. Maybe Court could send a stealth elf over. We're putting the S2 back together this weekend to go to Maxton, Can still do bonneville if we are running good by Sunday. |

Sheldon here, from Team Cooked Goose. Just by way of introduction I should say that I've owned 13 Harley, 3 were Sportsters. My next bike, hopefully in the spring, is probably going to be a new Buell or I may build a 1200 chopped sporty. My main ride right now is a rare 2002 Moto Guzzi Stone Metal with a chrome gas tank, Russian Sputnik Sidecar frame and a Chinese Flying Tiger police sidecar. Quite the international ride, and ridden by a Frenchman. I do so love Buells though and do have to have one. Gotta tell ya folks that the Moto Guzzi team values our close relationship with Team Elves, the Sportster List guys and the rest of the Harley Land Speed Record community. We have developed some good friendships with those folks and we would like to keep it that way. They work very hard for every MPH and so do we. We do need to clarify one thing. We do not have "factory support". Admittedly someone at Moto Guzzi North America did lose a bike. Somehow the paperwork is misplaced and we've had the good fortune of having to babysit it until they figure out we have it. It was not factory endoresed and to the best of our knowledge the factory in Italy does not even know we have it. We've been sweating the day they ask for it back. The other bike belongs to one of our members and he donated it to the team. Just about all the money to support Team Cooked Goose comes from the team member's pockets, or from donations from the members of the Moto Guzzi Correspondence List on the Internet. The only official sponsorship we have isn't all that official. An Amsoil distributor in Florida that rides Guzzis gives us all our fluids as a donation, but even Amsoil corporate doesn't give us a thing. We sweat for every mph, as do the Buell and Sportster folk and we so very much respect that. We've lent each other tools, information, even run parts for the others. These are all good people who work very hard to uphold the honor of their particular marque. Crim and Aaron are about the best folk around and I'm only hoping that I and they end up at the same place, at the same time for once. We're planning on being on the salt next week if the weather folk lay low. If there is no meet than I guess I'll be having a nice Utah/Nevada vacation. Sheldon Aubut Team Cooked Goose |

Sheldon, I don't believe that anyone at the factory would monitor a Buell web site, but in case they do, I for one will quit mentioning your "factory" support. You might want to remove the reference from your web site as the chances are very good that someone from Italy does monitor. Paperwork has a habit of re-appearing when you least want it to. A good friend is a long time dirt track tuner/restorer and when all the shit hit the fan about who owned BSA etc. someone went thru every scrap of paper found in one of the "old old" files and figured he had been "illegally shipped" plenty of one of a kind race parts which they now wanted back. Smitty got off the hook when no could show that he had requested them and/or received them. I think there were several motorcycle on the list that are currently in well know collections. Look up the word "provenance" sometime. It would be great for this fleet of harleys to show up at the same place and time as the factory Guzzi LSR team. Paul |

Gee Sheldon, I ain't heard from you in a coons age! I kinda thought you dropped off the planet or something. Yeah Josh, that was Sheldon at MITM... one of the ones I missed. I'm not sure who that moron was that posted that crap. We've always enjoyed a pretty friendly rivalry with the wine and pasta gang. I like it 'cuz they bring hoidy toidy beer. None of that Bush Lite crap. Every team needs a nemesis. Seems like I usually have my share. I hope you and Sid will be there this month. We're planning a big ol' end of year bash. Come one, come all!!! |

From the SCTA website 10-8-2002: We have inspected the salt flats on Tues the 8th and while there is still some dampness in areas on the salt we are hoping the weather cooperates and continues the drying process. We are optimistic about the outcome and are planning on staging the World Finals Oct 16th - 19th. If there are any changes we will update our message ASAP ________________________________________________ Arrrggrhghg, this is killing me. OK, I'm planning on going, I'll call and make reservations on Wed. and start the pacfking process this weekend. Here's hoping. I can be the GoodWill Embasador between the Harley Racers and the Guzzi Racers (since Team Galbraith will be racing both). Just picture it, Big Ole Me spreading smiles, good cheer and SacBORG salutes to all the smiling faces on the Salt. It will be like Christmas, HomeComing and Kiss from GrandMa all wrapped up into one..... On second thought, I'll just say "hi" to everyone and see if I cna keep from getting my ass kicked. . |

Mother Goose here from "Team Cooked Goose". The weather reports look promising, bikes have been shipped and the team is looking forward to some friendly competition from our Harley friends. Don't know if we will be running in Maxton 26-27 Oct. Depends on how the Sport and the Lemans behave on the salt. You all come on by the tent for some pasta and a cold drink while in Bonneville. Peace and Ride Safe :-) |

Ayup. Shirts are available at: http://www.cookedgoose.org For that matter I remember that the Sportster List had some great shirts a couple years ago. Just checked their site but it says the "store is closed" as they are off to Bonneville. I guess I'll have to buy one there. Heck, I'll probably have to get a Team Elves shirt too. Sheldon |

Due to weather and competition at Maxton, the Sportster List Race Team will not be at Bonneville this month. So Aaron, that record is all yours! ~Crim~ Doing a rain dance. |

Well, I just got off the phone with Snydley Jim Snyder and he's got one foot out the door to Bonneville. The 100" engine now rests in his frame (Whiplash) as we did a Chinese Firedrill with our engines last weekend to get Roadkill into the 1350 class for points reasons. So there's a definite 'maybe' for one of our bikes to be at Bonneville. Fire Marshall Jim.... do you guys to Chinese Firedrills there at work??? |

Crim, Will our running the Buell in 1350 p-pp hurt your chances for the points win in any way?? We just want to see how fast it will go and get some of this licensing stuff done this year. Also going thru a tech inspection on the bikes prior to Bonneville is important. Where is a good place to stay in the area?? Paul |

No Paul. We have no P/PP 1350cc bike. Yet. First choice for lodging is the Jameson Inn in Laurinburg. But it's probably full. Try the Holiday Inn Express. It's right next door to the Jameson. We'll have a HUGE party on Saturday night in the parking lot of the Jameson. |

Court, Team Exceleration is making plans for next year at Bonneville. Looking at the bikes we have available I am currently planning on the serious record attempts with the Buell for USFRA in September with TeamElves. We will be generating people and money for Speed Week also. If TeamElves is going to be emphasizing a different meet let me know so we can coordinate. I think this TV deal might fly if we could generate interest in this rivalry with those Guzzi folk. WWF marketing 101. :-) Would you and/or Dave want a copy of the Video of what Speedvision did on our effort this year?? Paul |

From the SCTA-BNI website: The latest report as of noon on Thursday the 10th of October: Roy Creel and his Zamboni crew have cleared/dragged 9 miles of dry salt. There are officials preparing the course at this time. We are optimistic about the outcome and are planning on staging the World Finals Oct 16th - 19th. If there are any changes we will update our message ASAP. |

Aaron, Man I wish we were as close as you to the racing. We are busting our humps now to get vehicles and people together so that we can run two bikes out to bonneville on two days notice. Its damn hard when some of us have to schedule vacation days 6 months in advance. I think we are only a chase vehicle and two people away from being able to go the 16th. Trying to decide if the cash is there as we are a definite for maxton on the 26th. Maybe on the 16th, two of the XRs' in the 3/4 ton van. All the best, is Susan riding or can Richard get there.
