Rider was OK... he was very lucky and got out with a separated shoulder "only"... 8 weeks with his arm in a sling and that's it... The bike made it out OK as well... we expected much worse, but we think the damage is on the plastics only... forks, frame and alignment have to be checked, but they looked OK to us. | ||

I didn't understand that either - dragging the bike back up that is. Had someone uprighted it and walked it up, it woudl have avoided dragging it on the ground, as well as having it hang in the air for however long it was by the tail - some I'm fairly certain it wasn't designed to do. Glad to hear everyone made it out alive. | ||

We had a good ride this weekend, glad nobody was hurt too bad. | ||

The main damage was done indeed... I`ve witnessed my good share of bikes being dragged up hills out of canyons, and trust me, you don`t have a choice... the tow truck guy doesn`t have the time to make sure your wrecked bike doesn`t get some additional scratches by being dragged... there are also liability issues, as mentioned above... the tow guy is up by the truck taking care of the controls, and won`t allow anyone near the bike... pulling a bike up on its wheels (400+ lb), on the side of a hill, in soft dirt, may sound easy, but it`s not, especially when the truck is pulling diagonally... | ||

Krassh: no ticket, just a report... we were not speeding. Froggy: sure, but I doubt it was done by a random tow truck guy... and if it was, then he was really cool with you guys I like your helmet btw (I have the same one hehe) (Message edited by wavex on September 22, 2008) | ||

Not sure about random, but you can bet he sees more than his share of downed bikes. Unfortunately, more and more each season. | ||

In other states like I believe the picture above to add insult to injury you get written up for failure to control a motor vehicle. Glad it was just a report. | ||

Yeah I`ve seen them do it in Cali too... if you crash and subsequently cross the double yellow or things like that... It was the 38 indeed... about 1/8 mile east of Jenks Lake Rd E., where the road gets tight for a mile or so... | ||

Wavex the guy has a pickup, about half a mile from that wreck. I didn't get any photos of it because the fuzz showed up, but it if i remember right it was a run of the mill Ford Ranger or something. The guy had this motorized ramp for pulling the bike onto the bed, and a used the ropes wrapped around something on the truck to pull the bike up and out. I am not in those pics at all, the bike belonged to Neil (Neverenough), and the guy in the suit was some random guy on a R6/R1 that stopped to lend a hand. I saw him again a few days later after leaving Georgia and thanked him for the help. | ||

Just curious to what happened to the Yamaha ... Did he low side? Or was he going to fast in turn .. hit brakes ... bike stood up and off the road it went? | ||

Yeah forgot about the double yellow line part. Of course a lot of times in the mountain roads in SoCal crossing the double yellow and being involved in an accident usually results in death. | ||

I remember years ago, rolling a beetle, and the cop trying to give me a ticket for reckless. I had a mild concussion, cuts and bruises and enough attitude to demand that he tell me what I did reckless. He couldn't establish anything and wrote down mechanical failure. Even in the headache and blood, I knew a reckless would jack my insurance so high, I'd probably not drive for a decade. Why give a ticket in those situations? I already knew I wasn't going to do that again. | ||

Dmhines: he says he hit some gravel, went wide and then tried to brake to shed some speed... I was right behind him and there was no gravel on the road that I could see... he came in too hot for his skills and tried to brake in mid-turn instead of committing... typical | ||

haha that's kinda funny to see. not funny in the fact that the guy wrecked but funny in that that spot is where accidents ALWAYS happen. i was actually up in big bear this weekend visiting my parents so i drove right by there twice. i had a friend hit that corner going about 80 mph in his girlfriends civic and get lost it. luckily it just spun and didn't wind up in the guard rail. cool to see some riders heading up to big bear. i need to make the trip soon on my xb9s. |
