i have been reading through all the threads that deal with both subjects mentioned in the topic, and yes i still remain confused. i am having the dead battery issue, and do not know if the solenoid elimenator/new flash will fix it. i have taken it to the dealership and they cannot tell me what the issue is. according to there "Tests" the system checks out fine. if anyone can point me the right way so i can figure this out it would be aprecated. -thanks me |

The new flash should take care of, or at the very least help with battery charging problems, but it is important to remember that under 3000 RPM the bike isn't really charging, only maintaining the charge level (each start could drop this level) so you need to keep the RPM above 3000 to be sure you are charging. My description is a little over simplified but just trust me on this one. The solenoid eliminator has nothing to do with the charging system, what it is intended to do is get rid of the 4900 rpm 3rd gear wide open throttle motor bog/death kill/ very dangerous engine cut out problem. According to Buell the solenoid is intended to cut down intake noise to keep the bike within EPA noise regulations. In a nut shell what it does is override the riders throttle input from 100% wide open throttle to about 80% throttle. there are other specific instances where the solenoid is active but this is the most noticeable. yes the first flash was already completed. i had the dealership check the vin number in their data base. |

Then you have something else going on with your charging system. I know at least one person had a bad instrument cluster causing the draw that was draining the battery. I had a battery discharge issue before the first flash and it used to die if I let it off the charger for a week. For awhile after that reflash I still kept it on the charger. Then I had to charge all 4 batteries from my RV on my 4 place charger so I had to unhook the bikes. It has probably been 2 months since I have charged the battery with no issues. |

Could be a bad battery. Also, use a battery tender. |

Nexus, I had a dead battery too, twice I got stranded. Both times I did not use the kill button. Now I hit the kill button first and then turn the key off. Since I've been doing that EVERY time (~ 3 months) I haven't had a battery issue. It seems dopey, but that is my experience. |

When I picked my bike up after the 1000km service the mechanic, who is a friend of mine, was going to show me how to check diagnostics. When he turned the switch on nothing happened. The battery was completely drained. He promptly replaced the dead battery with a new one from dealer stock and I have not had any problems since. My advice;Try to get your dealer to replace the battery. |

When I picked up my bike from the dealer after it's first service, the battery was dead when I tried to start it to drive home. (I dropped the bike off on a Thursday night for a Friday pm pickup, but I wasn't able to come get it until Sunday, so it sat for a couple of days.) I believe that the mechanic who test rode the bike hit the kill switch, left the key on and parked the bike. The key was in the ignition in the on position and the kill switch was in the off position when I tried to start it up. They gave me a brand new battery, and it's been fine. I HATE kill switches!!! well here is an update for everyone. i took my bike back down to the dealer. they started to test it again. i was back there helping the tec with the job. yay. . .im supprised they let me do that. well when it was all said and done the test set called out a VR. he aslo change out the battery for SnG. well the battery was bad reguardless, wehn i got to the dealer the battery was blazing hot. i hope this helps some people |

The bad VR probably killed your battery. As odd as it sounds, do be sure to turn off the bike by the kill switch before key off to avoid problems. That kill switch has voodoo magic. I had a lot of problems before the first flash and then once just after the flash. Never again though; I get the battery light occasionally and just make sure to run it over 4K for a while and then it's fine. I did just buy a Battery Tender Jr. and put it in the tail section (fits perfectly) as insurance but I have, thus far, not used it. (Message edited by chameleon on September 29, 2008) |

Just got my flash today, oh my goodness it's like a whole new bike below 3500rpm. What a silky smooth machine now, all over the powerband. Good job Buell, I love you guys!!! I might have to take the 1125r more now that I don't have to worry about riding the 'mechanical bull' downtown. I can cruise at 3000 or 3500 rpm in 2nd from light to light and it's like riding on a cloud. Also, the heat seems to be down, but I'll have to verify that again next summer when it's in the triple digits. |
