They've received a fair bit of rain, but the last several days have been dry, with more dry weather on the horizon. Trying to stay optimistic here guys. From the SCTA web site: The latest report: The area has received some rainfall. Our crew will check the salt again next week to see if there has been anymore precipitation. Stay tuned! We will make every effort to bring you the World Finals Event! Any cancellation will be posted here promptly. |

Aaron, The snow is what bothers me the most. We are not making any attempt to run there this year. Best of luck if you go. Hopefully you can get back home too. Paul |

I just think it's humorous that you guys are going to take a whole fleet of HD's to Maxton to beat TWO Moto Guzzi's. Come on guys, they only run TWO freakin' bikes and don't spend anywhere near the time/money that you guys do, but yet it's going to take how many teams of HD's to re-take the records? Give me a break..... |

Doenst matter how many bikes go, it only takes one to break the record. If the Guzzi is faster, it will win, pure and simple. The number of participants using a particular brand dont make the bikes any faster, it still comes down to how fast each one goes. Give me a break..... (P.S. I'm racing a Guzzi at Bonnville, whanna come out and play? Bring as many BrandX bikes as you like, I'll still take the record ). No word from the SCTA. Wish they'd get on the freaking stick and have a final word one way or another. Forecast calls for rain on the Salt this weekend, DAMN. |

Breaking news....... Consortium of Land Speed Record timing organizations announced "weighted speed". Henceforth, in an effort to level the playing field, all record attempts will be calculated as follows: ((Down Speed + Back Speed) / 2 ) / # of bikes of that particular brand at any event)*(1/$ spenmt preparing the bikes))* (subjective level (1-10) of enthusisasm demonstrated by the participants))) And to think I was sitting here suffering from cerebral bruising trying to figure out WHY they called them Land SPEED Records. Court Manager - Team Elves (a team who refused to accept and returned all donations exceeding $250 USD annnnnnd broke the Moto Guzzi record by something on the order of 40+MPH in a game scored in 0.000/mph) |

It's just really funny how much of a lather you guys work yourselves up into on this topic. Makes it a real easy pot to stir! Seriously though, the Guzzi's are using a drivetrain that has it's roots in a drivetrain developend for a tractor intended for the Italian Military back after WWII.When you look at the resources available (not!) to make one of those lumps go fast as compared to the amount of resources available to make an HD go fast, it really is laughable. I mean, they are making those Italian bikes go pretty damn fast with the (lack) of resources available and here you guys are pounding your chest and getting all worked up about beating them. I'm not making jest of the fact that your bikes go really fast and set records (that too is impressive when you consider the age of the Sportster design), I'm just poking at your he-man attitude about it. This 'Ford vs. Chevy'-esque battle needs some fresh 'Chrysler-esque' type air added - when is some Yamaha guy going to get off the stick and bring one of those pushroded Warriors out there and give it a go?? Yes, the battle is measured in MPH, but if it were measured in Attitude and Zeal, you guys would win first place everytime..... |

>>>This 'Ford vs. Chevy'-esque battle needs some fresh 'Chrysler-esque' type air added - when is some Yamaha guy going to get off the stick and bring one of those pushroded Warriors out there and give it a go?? To the best of my knowledge, no one is prevented from entering, including Yamaha (who, by the way, could be said to be our "blood relatives" were corporate secrets not what they are). I'd love to have the Guzzi "tractor's" TWO carbs. Franly, I think you give us too much credit. We're having a blast doing this and I'm not sure we've ever, other than competative chatter, said an uncruel word about the Guzzi team or the machinery. From my personal perspective, the SPEED is neat but I am proudest of being recognized as "the most organized team to EVER arrive at the Salt". I, for one, LIKE being in a lather. I've always enjoyed the excitement and to loosely paraphrase Carly Simon "Touched by the Sun" the Dreamers I meet there...... Court Canfield Neewwwwwwwwwwwwwww York City |

Hate to rain on Anonymous' parade but Team Exceleration was taking a shot at 14 LSR records, one of which was held by a moto-guzzi. Three were open, and I was most looking forward to chasing Jssnyders after the 1350cc A-PF record which no one has. Racing is racing. We have harley powered bikes so we race harleys. My team consists of a tool and die maker, the owner of an AAMCO transmission shop, and a used car dealer. We have the backing of our local H-D dealer with a pretty good break on parts. I believe the Guzzi being run in the 1350cc class was donated to their team by MGNA. I think we would all appreciate that level of support from Harley. With all the work we put in this year we are going racing somewhere, and the sportster.org people like running at Maxton. In some ways we are like the "BORG", soon all racing in these classes will be Harley powered or crushed. We have a new saying. You have been "SACBORGED", the meaning of which is still up for debate. |

Probably don't ride at all, don't have a D/L,and are only here because of nothing better to do.And don't even think that these responses constitute a rise--now mention contact patch or the KX Kid-- And I would love to have one of those incredible looking Guzzi's whose pics were posted here recently. |

After a long weekend (a very long weekend), I am pleased to anounce our transplant surgery was a success. Roadkill (# 1007) now has it's original motor back in it displacing 80 ci. The 100 inch is now in Whiplash (# 506). This was planned to happen over the winter but a planning mishap forced the swap now, it had to do with the ECTA points race. I enjoy the speeds, the competition and all the great people I've met through LSR. Sydney Conn of the Guzzi team "Cooked Goose" is a great person of whom I admire and respect. What I can not respect is someone who hides behind an Anon post to make rude remarks. I enjoy a good debate and I respect people who stand up for what they believe even when it conflicts with my beliefs. For someone to hide and take shots from the dark is a cowardice act. Jim S |

Choptop, BLM does not want any more racing on the Salt this year. The SCTA currently believes with enough sun and not much more rain, they can still run a limited FINALS event. There are so many people that want to run this year that even slim chances are being considered. Officially calling the event off may not happen till next week. I believe Monday the 14th may be officail cancellation. The chances are really none at this point, barring a miracle. Apparently miracles have happened in the past. Keep your bike ready and pray I guess. Paul |

Not getting official word until the day before the meet starts? They are high. It dont REALLY matter to me, I'm set to go or not... BUT, it sure would be nice to know one way or another sooner than the DAY before I'd have to leave to get out there. Oh well, I'll consider it cancelled, and if we get a "GO" then I'll just pile all my shite up the night before and go. |

Chop, If you recall, it is pretty much how USFRA also handled the sept. meet. My guess is that your only chance of making happy racers is to run. Cancel only when there is not even the slimmest chance of running. There will always be a next year in LSR racing, plan on racing for the next 5-10 years and this year doesn't seem to be that bad. Got till August to really find power, try out different ideas, or in my case put decals on the Buell. Speedvision talked with someone here regarding next years plans, so the TV deal may still happen. We may be bringing some truly vintage race bikes out next year also. Flathead etc from the pre-war dirt track era. See you on the Salt next year. Paul |

Hey Paul, Where's "here"? Your profile says yer a Medical Physicist but I'm thinking they didn't call your place of work? I'm in St Louis and will be up your way (relatives near Alpha, Il) this Friday. I'm trying to talk them into a Harris Pizza but they might be busy. What are you doing? Josh |

Some chicken chit, no ridin' mutha fukker sez: >I just think it's humorous that you guys are >going to take a whole fleet of HD's to Maxton to >beat TWO Moto Guzzi's. Um.... 1) Roadkill + Whiplash = TWO bikes. That's the extent of the Sportster List Race Team for now. 2) We could really give a shit about MG records at this point. We've been busy all year keeping a 215 MPH Hyabusa at bay in the points championship. And yes, it appears that we have a good chance at taking the ECTA Championship with our tractor engined girlie bike. 3) Where the hell is Sydney in the points battle? Not taking the September points into account, he has a whopping 290 points to our 1104. Ooooh..... that's 10th place! 4) Have some balls and post under your real name, faggot! And remember, don't let facts get in the way of a good lie, eh? Oh, I'm sorry for being rude. It's just so NOT like me. ;-) ~Crim~ (I gotta hang around here more often.) Crim, I like the attitude you guys have on jssnyder site. It appears to me that you guys like to "discuss" issues in more detail than we are used to over here. Reminds me of the two month argument we had on which carb design to go with on the p-pp buell, CV or Quicksilver. I think anon hasn't actually put together a race bike for anything like a serious effort. Most people undersestimate the time commitment and sheer number of people that feel like "helping". I was really hoping to meet the Guzzi team, even tho they likely be "Godless communists". Fun to think of a "fleet" of Harley people going racing tho. Maybe we can change some attitudes at Buell too. Latest models would only need some minor factory changes to make them really shine at LSR. Pricing airfare to Maxton now, another good idea I got from sportster.org!! |
