With regards to being a parent... I always tell new parents to be that their life is about to change like nothing has ever changed it before. It's not a crossroads like you just found religion, became sober, or just got sight after being blind for life. It's the most dynamic change to your personal philosophy, it really does change everything, priorities, reason for being, and much much more. I leave it at that pretty much, and always revisit the discussion after a year or so, and the conversation then is amazing. Are good parents better than anyone else? No, they're just different, they're changed. |

I have all the respect in the world for a couple of my friends that are definitely great parents. I was really referring to the media and political scene as treating non-parents as less. (Or sugesting that they have extra qualifications because they are parents, despite what their kids do.)Not necessarily anyone here. And if someone mistreated my dog I'd lose it, so I get that I would probably lose it in "the situation" like many, I just hope I wouldn't try to actually kill him with a weapon. I just don't think it's fair to treat the guy like he broke in. He didn't. Definitely a risky choice, but the daughter was AS guilty. Maybe I'd feel better if she got a beating too. So I guess if SHE had sneaked into his house for sex late at night, it would be okay to hit her with a pipe and send her to the hospital. I mean she could have a gun in her purse.... "Are good parents better than anyone else? No, they're just different, they're changed." I like that, well put. (Message edited by miamiuly on September 17, 2008) |

"If he thought i was inebriated when i dropped her off he'd send US to her room to sleep it off. " In your car?! Honey, I don't know you, but if you brought my daughter home while you were driving drunk, I would help you find your way home in a safe manner(maybe) but you would never be allowed to date my daughter as long as I had any say so. I only hope that whomever may date my children would love and care for them as much as I do(and not put their lives in danger). My daughter would then have her head examined, because she has been taught better. And you do know that drinking until drunk causes it's own little brain trauma each time, don't you? Parents have a rough time, I don't care how great your kids are. It's hard to explain the worry one has over every nuance of life for a child. That never ends. NEVER. Unless you have been there you can't possibly understand. Now y'all have brought the Momma out in me...I'll quit lecturing now...carry on. |
