Have a couple of my Aussie friends here getting ready for Bonneville. They set-up a GSXR-750 turbo bike at home and then shipped all the turbo components here to my shop, bought a wrecked Gix on eBay and we have been hard at it since monday. Bike is running and most stuff taking shape. But lots of little challenges.
motor out on monday getting new pistons, spacer etc
Greg rebuilding
going back together
turbo installed (Message edited by firemanjim on August 30, 2008) |

Yup. Working like dogs chasing missing parts and sorting unforseen problems. Doing fiberglassing tonight.

Oh, and not to hijack a thread Jim, but what does the fire department do if your house is on fire, and you have oxy-act tanks in the garage? Does it change their protocol? |

Naw, how would they know. Just take normal precautions and cool everything down. Never remember any trouble with one. |

Made pases of 178,183,195, and a 203, but meet called for day this afternoon because of high winds---sucks as we have to back up a qualifying run the same day, so lost that run.Ran into Mark Brownlee from Texas at our motel-- for anyone who remembers,Mark was in our original bunch of Buellers who did the 130 Club at Bonneville and he has been racing here since. Aaron running well, lots of Buells including an 1125 and 2 XB-RR's. |

Must have been a good thing as Greg made a 210 pass this morning and a 220 backup. Then I got on for a 211 pass, only to have a boost tube slip for a 163 run --damn. Back in morning for more trys at 200+ record.Way fun!!! |

Morning went well, ran a 214 qualifier with a 219+ backup, so got a 217 record and a nice 201 club hat compliments of Dan at NRHS. This bike was stable and straight as an arrow at these speeds and with gearing change--I ran at rev-limiter of 13,500 for more than a mile-- and more boost(we were at 16-20 LBS and can go to 28) this bike may get to 240. BTW this is now the fastest 750 bike anywhere from all records we could find. |

Got bike back to shop and gave her the once over--leakdown was good, clutch good. Re-geared it,new chain, fixed boost controller to give the 26 lbs it was supposed to vs the 16 we got, installed a lockup clutch, added 50 lbs more lead shot, new radiator and we will be heading for WOS tuesday with a stop at El Mirage this sunday. Looking for more speed and a couple more hats! |

Jim, Congrats on the new record! You must be really jazzed. Be careful out there, we need to be able to live vicariously through you! Brad (Hmmmm, may be time for a new shirt? Take a couple of pics like the last time and I'll see what I can do.) |

Finally got to meet Scott at El Mo. Greg and I headed down on sat., arrived at 430, just in time for motorcycle tech to end(car tech went on for lots longer???) Missed rookie orientation but John Noonan and his GF, Michelle, helped us get it done. Up early for tech like we were told but the inspector musta slept in, he was there at 730. We both had to do rookie runs as we had never run here, had to be between 130 and 150---man was that hard. I got one more run in in late afternoon, course was pretty chewed up so only went 188,darn. Will be off to WOS on tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed all the changes we made up the speed!!! |

Jim and Greg it was nice to meet you guys yesterday. Running at El Mirage is a lot harder than most think, the track is dirt and conditions always vary. Yesterday everyone I spoke to was down on speed, myself included. 188 mph on a one mile track is good and you would of done better with the opportunity of a few more passes, see you guys at WOS!
