Jason, I just road my 25r from my "country bumpkin" house to San Diego (that's in California BTW) and back in 7 days. I believe that I put it through every riding condition out there from the wide open plains, to 11,900 feet over the pass, through the hot Nevada desert while is was well over 110 out. If anything is a testament to the quality of the bike I think a 5000 plus mile round trip...with no mechanical issues is. Though I will concede one point...I had to swap to the touring seat once I hit San Diego. Now that the p*ssing match is over. I would love to join you some time for a ride around NYC...let's just keep it during sunlight hours...us "country bumpkins" get dazzled by the bright lights too easy and I might fall over.

I rode mine back to NYC from Georgia, where I purchased it. It was a great ride until hitting the city. I sure as hell wouldn't complain to Buell about the seat. And don't give me a line about San Diego being urban. That city is laid out better than most. Now ride through the Gaslamp on saturday night. I have a user name for a reason. |

I went from Los Angeles to Virginia Beach then back to Los Angeles on my 1125R. The bike is great! On the trip I had zero heat issues. However, back in Los Angeles doing my daily commute, the bike is almost intolerably hot. (Message edited by eweaver on September 16, 2008) |

>>>should I put you in my lawsuit as well? You can't. Your attorney will explain the concept of legal privity to you. Best of luck. The 1125R would not be my choice for riding here in NYC. I'm leaving in 5 minutes for an event in Chelsea and the Ulysses provides superior visibility, one of the reasons I loved my KLR. Riding a Sportbike in NYC is, in all candor, not the best choice. In addition, as locals are well aware, there is a fairly onerous enforcement effort underway. My riding partner has been stopped and had his bike towed twice in the last 6 weeks. The Ulysses is a wonderful choice for the city and I really liked the XB9 which always reminded me of a Luke Skywalker "Speeder Bike". Now THIS . . . . is an Urban Assault Vehicle!

U in lawsuit = sarcasm. You must be a lawyer. I'm reminded why I left securities litigation. I won't ride an ugly bike/touring bike anywhere = Uly is out. Lightning XB9 is A+. Yes, my XB9R is great everywhere. If Buell doesn't fix the 1125r, I'm selling it and taking my XB off the market. Edit: cheesecake is good. Chelsea? Heyyyy girrrl! Not that there's anything wrong with that. And forum posts dont always come accross nicely. No hard feeling, I just think Buell should step up. I'm reminded why I left securities litigation. Given recent events your career change may have been premature. I am not a lawyer. . . . yet. I just got approval from my employer, when I graduate in December, to attend Law School on their nickel. . . . not likely to happen. But thanks for the compliment or insult whatever. I concur that Uly's beauty lies not in it's lines like an S2 but rather in it's ultility. I'm busy, when I'm not riding, writing, about my experience and may someday post some of my thoughts here. Enjoy . . . I'm off for Chelsea and the art gallery with my little classmates.

It would be nice if someone would take a temp reading of the frame to identify what heat range we are really talking about. I agree an 1125r is definatly not the bike for NYC, but the 1125cr is, right? Does that bike somehow stay magicly cooler??? (for some reason I doubt it) As far as helping '08 owners. There is a BIG difference between year model upgrades and owning up to safety issues. Of course then Buell would have to admit they put the bike out WAY to soon. When my 1st generation WileyCo. exhaust mount snapped the company gave me a brand new 2nd generation system for the cost of shipping. I simply provided a picture of the issue. I don't expect Buell to hand out new bikes, but the FI maps should be free at the very least and a one-time offer for updated parts at cost would be honorable (along with some fire proof shorts). |

Koz I took some readings awhile back and posted somewhere on this forum....I can take some again....but right now weather is mild and my 11 runs at about 180-195...no where near the temps I see when weather is pushing mid 90's and higher |

I agree an 1125r is definatly not the bike for NYC, but the 1125cr is, right? Since when is a 146hp bike capable of 160mph considered "the bike for NYC"? Higher bars (as an OPTION, mind you) does not mean it's an urban vehicle. When my 1st generation WileyCo. exhaust mount snapped the company gave me a brand new 2nd generation system for the cost of shipping. I can assure you that if your factory Buell exhaust broke within warranty, Buell will replace it for you. And they won't even charge you shipping. And they'll install it at no cost to you. I don't expect Buell to hand out new bikes, but the FI maps should be free ...and they have been, so what's your complaint? and a one-time offer for updated parts at cost would be honorable Again - Help me bring my 2006 205hp Cobalt SS to the dealer so they can install the 260hp engine from the 2008 model at cost. It's only fair. |

I have the boiling gas issue and after I wrapped the headers and lined 90% of the inside of the tank/frame with heat barrier my gas tank area still hit 138'F by the seat and 125'F in the front. After about 15 minutes after turning off the bike measured again and tank was an even 135'F all over. These temps were taken in mid 80'F with approx 60% humidity after a 25 mile ride. I have had boiling gas once more since I did the wrap and barrier. |

This is my view on all this. If there was not a problem then Buell would not have made changes to the 09 bike. Most of the changes seem to help correct the problems that us with the 08s have. They are listening to the customers otherwise they would not have made these changes. If the problems are safety issues then they should be corrected under warranty. Boiling gas, gas fumes, burning hot frame, and turn signals that fail all seem like safety issues to me and I'm sure most of the owners of the 08 models will agree. Xl1200r let me ask you something. If your 2006 Cobalt SS had gas leaking on the exhaust manifold under the hood and you knew about it what would you do? You would go to the dealer and they would fix it. Or are you saying that would be normal on a motorcycle but not a car? The way I see it is Buell is obligated to correct the "safety" things on this bike. I get a little tired of my friends knocking my new bike because it has these problems. I hear it all the time "never had any problems with my Honda". I am looking forward to the day when I can tell them all that Buell corrected all my problems and the bike on a scale of 1 to 10 is an 11 now. I bought an American made bike for my first bike because I believe in America and want to support its people. I don't believe that Honda or any other foreign manufacturer is any better than what we can make here. After all when it comes down to it people designed and built these products. I'm sure that if Buell corrects these problems they will have many more loyal customers and very positive word of mouth. The negative spreads so quickly but positive does also. Buell fix these problems and make this bike go all the way! |

From the Buell website: New for 2009 on the 1125R and 1125CR models are targeted fuel injectors, relocated O2 sensors, and updated engine spark and fuel maps. The combination of these features offers improved drivability below 6000 rpm, even crisper throttle response, improved heat management, and significantly improved fuel economy. The updated engine spark and fuel maps will also be made available for 2008 1125R models. It sounds like Buell is acknowledging less than perfect: --Drivabilty below 6k, --Throttle response, --Heat Management, and --Fuel Economy. Acknowledging is an important first step. Fixing will be a great second step. I am in the market to replace my 03 XB9S, but until Buell gets these issues sorted out they won't be seeing any of my $'s. |

>>>>If there was not a problem then Buell would not have made changes to the 09 bike. I'm not taking exception to some of the things in this discussion. But we, communally, might need to take a careful look at our logic and communication skills. Reread that sentence and explain to me. . . . this is just a test to help you understand why someone might so quickly see this logic and summarily dismiss you before they get to the real meat of the subject. . . . why Porsche is introducing the new fuel injection. If I were, and I won't, bought into your flawed logic I'd be able to prove (in a Boolean Logic sense) that ALL prior Porsches are flawed. Please tell me the 2008 Porsche is not flawed. |

Sportbikes fit NYC like whores fit church . . . .this (taken last night) is a common scene. I'm going to have to dig out my pics of some of Gothams "road traps". By the way . . .shortly before I took this, about 10:00PM last night, a black Buell XB roared past me in Harlem . . . anybody here?
By the way . . . these work well in Gotham . . .

Court, so money and time was spent in additional research and development for no reason? So what was the reason? It seems like even big manufactures can only afford to make these changes every couple of years. These changes are not a total redesign to keep it fresh, the bike has not even been out for a year, so what gives? Did the government step up the emission standards on motorcycles just this year? Is that why Buell is trying to get more efficient burn to lower emissions from the pipe? As for the Porsche, I don't follow those high end cars much but is that the only change they made? If everything is identical but the fuel injection I would be surprised. Usually you only see big changes like that if it is a new model or redesigned model or if there were some durability problems with the system. Please inform us all so we have the facts. |

Chevy - of course I would want the dealer to take care of it because something would be broken. A rough-running engine at low rpms and less-than-stellar gas mileage is not "broken". You're "...then they would not have made updates" point of view has already been accurately addressed. Court - I saw those "electric golf carts on steriods" at the NAIAS this past Jan. I had no idea they were selling them already. Very cool. |

>>>the bike has not even been out for a year, so what gives? Buell, the FIRST motorcycle company to be ISO certified, is committed to continuous improvement. There are engineering teams who once something is done go right back to work asking "how can this be better?" It's a hallmark of vibrant businesses. I bought a Buell in the 1980's. I loved it. I bought a Buell in the 1990's. I loved it and it was a better bike. I got a new Buell 2 weeks and am convinced (you may be hearing more about it in the coming days) that this is the best motorcycle Buell has ever built . . . . I've been paid in the past to use, abuse and ride the wheels off motorcycles from 3 companies. The Ulysses I just started riding is nothing short of amazing. I'm going to buy a Buell in 2012 as well and I am certain it's going to be a better motorcycle. Court |

Court, I'm with you. HELLO! This is a TOTALLY new design and and you're getting the first ones off the assembly line. There is no amount of pre-production testing that could predict total real world performance. It has been less than a year since the very first pre-production bike was unveiled to the world. Did you really expect to buy the first production units and have a perfect bike, you're delusional. Take a minute and go read the tuber archive section. You should be glad the 1125 has so few, minor glitches and rejoice in having such a great bike! |

Buell, the FIRST motorcycle company to be ISO certified Hahahaha. I assume you're talking about ISO 9000/9001. Well, usually this means only, that it will be documented when some crap is built. Regards, Gunter PS, just in case you missed it: BMW Group is ISO 9000 certified for ages. |

I'm looking forward to upgrading my Buell with a new water cooled one. But not until I know I will not have to become a mechanic myself, as I am not. Nor do I have time to return to the dealer over and over. Why? Why should rejoice? You guys are nuts not to expect the best in a new bike. Buell has little incentive to get better if the big is "open sourced" like software than the price is way too high. |

Don't think Buell can be sued for a hot frame or boiling gas??? Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants,[1] also known as the “McDonald's coffee case,” is a 1994 product liability lawsuit that became a flashpoint in the debate in the U.S. over tort reform after a jury awarded $2.86 million to a woman who burned herself with hot coffee. The trial judge reduced the total award to $640,000, and the parties settled for a confidential amount before an appeal was decided. |

So why should anyone have bought a 2008 Buell 1125r??? Oh yeah, they expected to be the owner of a finished product, not a lab rat. Because that is the way it appears Buell looks at anyone who would by a first year model. Maybe the slogan for last year should have been The 1125r - a half sorted out bike at full price. or Wanted, Test riders, you pay us $12,000 or The 2008 1125r - to hot to touch, really! or Is your junk hot from an STD or are you riding the new Buell? Upper end power is completely the same, AFAIK. I only got it to about 7.5k. A little less vibration. Less of that hallow vibration sound in 6th gear. I only did like 90mph tops and I don't redline b4 shifting. You'll have to talk to a racer for more info. |
