Well I have an '04 XB12S, in recent times a spark plug blew out of the front cylinder. Took it in, they pulled and fixed head, put it back together and it hasn't been quite the same ever since(note; also had them do a 10k service while it was in the shop).

Here is the main problem, after it is warmed up fully, it will not hit the rev limiter. Easiest way I can show the problem is in first gear full throttle it gets to right about 6k and then just drops off, dies off completely until you let off the throttle and then get back on it. It seems to be slightly lacking power, but not terribly; and it seems to run fine other than this. It is very annoying though when you try to get up and go and you almost go over the handle bars because the engine falls flat on its face.

It's back in the shop now, had them do a tps reset, but they said that it is still having the same problem. NEED HELP!!! Are they not setting the TPS properly, did they kink a hose or something, create an intake leak when they took the head off, something else to look at???????

Thanks for all your help.

A tps reset is absolutely and totally meaningless at WOT. According to your description it's exactly the rev limiter that's kicking in.

Gunter

No, it is about 800-1000rpm below the rev limiter....and from my experience it would always "bounce" off of the rev limiter and continue to run, right now it gets up there and shuts down as if all fuel is shut off(or maybe spark)it just drops rpms and the engine won't go again until you let way off on the throttle and then back into it.

What color are your spark plugs?......
Have you tested/replaced your plug wires?.........
What is your AFV?...........

Has you noticed some stumbling at higher rev?......, that is is usually a rich condition. Since your plugs are good and in ecm spy you see good feedback on the TPS
moving the throttle the I would lean towards ignition, something loose
or even a bad ecm.

I had a similar issue in my X1 a few years ago and for a long time , the TPS was the culprit, when I reset it work all Ok, but after take a bike for a ride in closed Loop, the TPS was jumping all over.

Try reset it and you take a look at TPSÂș/TPS%, then take the Bike for a ride at learning mode, after hook back the bike to the VDST/ECMspy and see if the TPS is jumping all over.

The problem was resolved when I replaced it and ran great again.

You'll need the ECMSPY or VDSTS for try solved this problem.

Good Luck.
