Looked up my address in Google maps, and looked at the street view.
There's my house, and my truck in the driveway.
Not sure what to think of this.

For the love of God, put some clothes on. Those shades aren't down all the way.

Agreed. Perps don't need to see a layout of your home.

Alt+PrintScreen, then open Photoshop, Ctrl+V

Scary, but the only thing I get is an aerial view...
Click "Street View"

For the mac. CMD-Shift-4 then select what you want to capture (Or CMD-Shift-3) for the entire screen. (Just fyi).

My prediction for the next big thing that google will do to shake up the world:

Give it a photograph of a person and it returns all other pictures on the internet that contain that person. : )

I don't get it. When I click Street View, a little yellow dude shows up on the map, and nothing else happens...? I can drag him around and drop him (he bounces), and nothing else occurs.....?

It can't scare you that much if you're posting it yourself on the internet, lol.

I was a little freaked out when I first saw this, but I guess it doesn't bother me much at this point. It has proven itself very helpful more than once, trying to find things - sometimes and address isn't all you need.

Plus, here's my address. Good luck figuring out which windows are mine, lol:

Quit blocking the sidewalk!

you may be joking but I HATE when people do that.

It is like parking in a handicap spot.

I've seen old men,
who can barely walk to begin with, have to detour through the grass and into the road to get around a car like this.

Then there are strollers and actual people in wheelchairs.

Plus it can block my view of the street when backing out of my driveway in a cage.

As a kid who was forced to ride my bicycle on the sidewalk, it always pissed me off too.

Jim,
Google already has face recognition in the Picasa photo software. It even has you do the hard work of identifying the people and entering their contact info.
And it's all just a subpoena away from those that protect us.

They must've come around taking pictures last Christmas when my son was in town.

Miamiuly - In our deed restricted neighborhood, that is where you are supposed to park. They send you a letter if you park in the street overnight. Not much foot traffic on my block.

It's getting out of hand.
The "Street View" is protected because streets are mostly public.
Face recognition in my opinion is not.
Looks like someone can take a picture of me, put up my contact info, and post it to the web.
That IMHO sucks.

We's not that sophisticated yet. Mine doesn't have a tab for street view. I guess I could post up a pic none the less if anyone wants to come over and help replace base gaskets.

we have something like that here too(in fact coral gables was the first, or one of the first "planned community" of it's type in the Country.)

Not supposed to park in the swale either but people do and I prefer that to on the sidewalk.

Too many cars not enough motorcycles. An imperfect world...

It all comes about because there is a lot of public information that uses to be difficult to get to that is getting a lot easier. You can look up my property taxes online for example.

The newspaper can, and always has been able, to snap your picture and write an article about you. It's a first amendment thing. Now you effectively have google writing an article about everyone.

People don't like it, but I'm not sure what to do about it. If you try and limit it (which might require a constitutional amendment) people are going to use it to limit bad press about themselves, which is what the first amendment is there to prevent.

Not sure what to think of this.

I have been trying to get worked up about this, but for the life of me can't even fake some mild disgust. Telemarketers still creep me out more than this plus the fact that my street view photo is like 2 years old already ( I have already destroyed the evidence of the "High School Musical" party.)

There are, and I suppose it's not restricted to NYC, police cars running about armed with a pair cameras mounted on the rear deck shooting photos of tags keeping track of locations and looking for "numbers". The info is coordinated with EZ-Pass records in real time.

Earlier on CNN the were using google maps, street view to show before and after Ike.

They showed one street, pointed out a guy on his balcony in the "before" google picture -then the segment fell apart when they didn't have the "after" shot of the same street as they had planned.

No, they knew the one with the guy was an old picture and had people on the ground or tape already shot of after, but when it was time to roll the after they had a problem.

It just struck me as funny that he pointed out the dude on his balcony on the "before" shot from google as this thread was up today.
