My 1125 is stock except for solenoid resister replacement and has ~770 miles. this morning I was in a hurry leaving a stop sign on a slight uphill. At first I was part throttle then full to get up to the speed limit. As soon as I opened the throttle the bike stood up. I did not expect it. The front wheel was up enough so that I couldn't see the road ahead of me. I let off and then tried to catch the front wheel with power so it wouldn't hit the ground hard. The front wheel stayed up a bit more, it was time to shift and I was a little over the limit. So I shifted and backed off on the throttle. What a great bike!! |

You really wanna have some fun, take a trip to sea level. You'll get about 15 more ponies. Careful, don't loop it. Z |

Just don't do it in Florida. We're having 'stunta' back lash down here. New law puts big penalties on riders who do wheelies, stoppies, or exceed posted speed limit by more than 50 mph (not making that up). Thousand dollar fine for first offense - keep doing it, forfeit the bike and lose your license for ten years. Abate got the helmet law repealed - be interesting to see how they react to this one... So I think I have this figured out. Tonight on the way home from work, in the dark, ~11:30 pm, I rolled about 10-15' with easy throttle, shut it off to let the weight transfer forward, then applied throttle to desired ankle of wheelie. Now the amazing thing to me is how sensitive and docile the power is. It's not like a pipey 2-stroke. Jack, I hear what you are saying. Here in Albuquerque I hear it is a felony to get caught driving recklessly. Z, I can't wait to take this bike to Alaska next summer. Most of my riding there is near sea level and it is definitely cooler than here. BTW is looping an 1125 a strong possibility? I'm not into stunting but do enjoy a little power wheelie now and then. |

i knew the day would come... when i would pull a wheelie and a cop was watching. today was that day. ive been 'dabbling' into wheelies. i can bring it up every time i try, now. 1st gear, 6k rpm, whack the throttle open and hold on. however, i have a seriously hard time finding the balance point and i treasure my life too much to over shoot where i think it might be, so it comes up and then back down. maybe one day ill be able to hold it. ill probably pee myself the day it happens. i have dreams about holding a wheelie for more than a couple seconds! as i came back down there were two sheriffs on bikes hiding behind the stop sign of the next street i was about to pass. the first one shook his radar gun at me signaling me to slow down and then went back about their business chatting to eachother. i probably wont get lucky like that again!!! |

BTW is looping an 1125 a strong possibility? Yes. It's expensive and torturous being without your beloved for the time it takes to repair. Took over 3 months to fix mine! http://picasaweb.google.com/pauledwards/20080612Bu ell1125RAccident |

That was painful enough just looking at the photos. How bad did you get hurt? |

If the 1125's are anything like previous Buells, you'll find that they REALLY like the cool, crisp autumn air, which makes them much more prone to this sort of behavior...

Hey Chameleon - is it all fixed? I have a new right side mirror/signal in the box - cheap. Good thing you were wearing leather. Z |

My butt was sore for 2 days. Saw the chiropractor a few more times than usual. That's it. Yes, it's fixed... I received it on 9/12 and proceeded to take a 725 mile trip that weekend with my wife on her V-Rod. It's in the shop now for it's 12,400 mile service... Damn that's an EXPENSIVE service. |

12.4k service cost me around 50 bucks in parts. Found a bad cam, that cost me 60 bucks to have the parts overnighted. What hurt was being down 4 weeks. Z |

Yeah, I'm definitely doing the next one with help from a friend. I know computers inside and out, not motors. I have, however, helped to swap the motor in my car twice and transmission once, so I'm learning. |

As far as the 1125 liking crisp air I can so it does like it, a lot. Had my daughters on the front porch today so I rode one down the street to make them smile. When i stood it up I almost looped it. Haven't got the bike out for about a week and the temp has dropped about 15 or 20 degrees since the last time i was on it. Noticeable difference. In Southern Ohio by the way. |

I definitely noticed how much cool air improves performance today. The last bike I had was an XB12, but the gains with the 1125r seem ridiculous. I've been practicing sit downs wheelies since I got the first service done and had very inconsistent results. Either I'm finally getting used to the bike or the cold air and/or fuel makes the feel of this bike MUCH better. Today the bike just felt incredible. The frame wasn't hot at all for once. Just lukewarm. Is the hot fuel in frame on the 1125r causing serious performance differences at different temps? I know temp changes engine performance but it seems extreme on this bike. |

I believe that the significant gains are the result of a functional ram-air intake. Cooler air compresses better, more air = more oxygen, more oxygen = better/hotter combustion. |

Was more or less skimming across this thread and saw mention of an "open air box kit". My question is why? I mean isn't the ram air beneficial, to me the only potential mod to the air intake that I have thought about may be extending the intake to just under the lights maybe a little bit past it. I'm thinking of something like what you see on a Kawasaki can't recall the year or specific model, but I remember the intake duct being kind of similar, but stuck out a little bit. This way when your going slow or maybe it still happens a little bit at speed, you won't be sucking hot air off the radiators. Which I am sure will require some level of engineering so that the duct itself isn't heated and so that velocities don't get all messed up. But to qualify the comment about cold air, the proof I have that is pretty hard to refute. Was when I was a crew chief on a Late Model years back it was on days when the weather was cool, but not super cold that records would be set. Mind you it was a local track same guys, same cars only variable being air. |

Chev, From everything I have seen, the RAM AIR doesn't really significantly effect performance until you hit the 80MPH mark. Since most of my driving is under that it doesn't come into play. The only reason I removed my inner air box was for the sound effect of the twin intakes...it's much better than the sewing machine noises.

Yes, Mike, the factory 1125 website says 80 mph; and that's ~130 kilometres per hour. In a country where 100 is the default freeway/tollway speed, and the penalties for exceeding it by 30 kilometres per hour are quite severe, personally I won't be getting that ram air benefit unless I finally do a track day.

+1 to better sound without the inner gray airbox cover. It does help the bike breathe a little better, too. |

I have a stock 25r (other than my euro tail light) and the 1st reflash. Here in PA theres no prob. with me pullin the front tire and holding it there in 2nd at around 65 or 70 and gettin 3rd. Havent had the kajones to bang fourth other than setting her down. There is a balance point where you can just hold the throttle and not have to keep feathering it like your on your old yz125 2 stroke. The 1125r loves the back wheel!!! |

the 1125 may love the back wheel, however the back tire certianly does not like the punishment the 1125 dishes out! |

True for stock tires... I got 5,500 miles out of my rear, which is apparently pretty good. I'm really enjoying my Metzler Z6 sport touring tires. I have about 7,700 miles on them and they barely show any sign of wear. Still PLENTY of tread left. |

Yep wheelies r fun, just don't get caught! The reflash deff made my 1125 grow chest hairs! Try 2nd gear power wheelies. PULL the clutch after 8500 in first gear.VERY quickly pop into 2nd but don't throttle down and don't let eng rev to rev limit and pop clutch. HANG ON! Shell go over Reeeelly quick! Major sky! @75 mph or so. Just like dirt racing b4 a big tripple.just no jump. Be careful it will scare the hell out of u! I learned this on a GSXR just shifting @ 12000 instead of lower v-twin revs. Be safe! |
