So I ran out of gas on the highway and the only person who stopped said that all he could do is offer me a little gas for his chainsaw. He said there was very little oil in it and poured some out to show me. It looked just like normal gas, not any darker so I thought, what the hell! So it started right up and I there was ZERO detectable difference. No hesitation, no burping, no nothing. But 200 miles later....yes 200 miles later, I noticed a small hesitation while on the highway. Since then it may just be my mind playing headgames, but I swear I can feel an occasional hesitation although it idles perfect and I can not see anything going on with the tachometer. So it's only happening like once every minute of riding. The guys at autozone said: 1) It could have taken 200 miles for that little bit of oil to gum up your injectors a little bit. 2) It may have taken 200 miles for that little oil to gum up your fuel filter 3) Maybe it slowly fouled your plug a little What do you guys think? If you poured a tiny bit of oil in your tank, do you think there would really be such a delayed effect? Or would you think it must be something else going wrong, totally independent of that 1/2 gal gas I used?? Also, can anyone tell me how to remove my plugs to wipe them off? Do you access them from underneath the airbox? |

Gum up injectors and fuel filter, unlikely. I'd be worried about the O2 sensor.......Maybe I don't know.... |

Well, a new set of plugs would not hurt, you can clean them with a wire wheel or sandblaster if you really want but for $15 you can get new plugs. The front plug you have to remove the left scoop and use a wrench to get it off. The rear plug you will need a wobble extension or universal joint, spark plug wrench and an extension, you wont have to pull the airbox but you will have to take off the seat. Also get a good pair of long plug wire pullers so you dont damage the wire. I dont see the oil "clogging" your injectors as the gas will thin it out, and being two stoke oil it is already thin, but a fouled plug is very possible. |

I'm a big fan of trying the cheap and easy fix first. Get yourself a can of SeaFoam from your local auto supply store (NAPA around here, maybe different for you). Dump it in your tank per the directions (or up to 2x concentration if you don't mind a temporarily rough idle) and ride. Your exhaust will stink to high heaven until your next refueling, but it absolutely will clean the mung out. It won't help your plugs, though, if they're really fouled. Best to physically clean or replace them if that's the case. |

I always have pre-mix (oil/gas) around for my KX and have used it in just about everything I own with no problems in fact that's all I run I my lawn mower, but using in the Buell did cause me to instantly foul a plug. I would try new plugs. |

Make sure you run as much of the gas out as you can, fill up, and use Sea Foam. |

I'd add Sea Foam to a tank of fuel, not to the throttle body. |

Most saws run a 40:1 mix, maybe 50:1 if newer.......so 1/2 gallon is a mere couple of ounces of oil. It totally mixes with gas and that little dab of oil shouldn't cause any harm........and if it did,a tank of the correct fuel would burn off or flush out any residue.....if any at all.It would be nothing more than a top cylinder lube. Most two stroke oil is high quality, low ash..........compared to engine oil that can get past the rings if worn. I think it's all in your head or a coincidence with something else wrong. You can easily pull the front plug and take a look. If OK, ................try Wal*Nards B-12 injector cleaner. I used to run Castor bean oil in a couple of bikes,a couple of ounces per tank.........just to get "that unique smell". Long term use did cause hard starting and no other issues after I stopped doing that shit. Castor bean oil it the very worst oil for fouling plugs. It is meant as a race 2 stroke oil to be run hot and hard. Lolly gagging around with that mix will foul plugs. (Message edited by just_ziptab on September 11, 2008) |

Actually, If the mix was done right. For 50:1, its usually 1 oz per gallon. So if you have 1/2 gallon, you're looking at only 1/2oz of oil. probably no more than 1 oz total. You'll be fine. I used mixed gas in my 4 stroke lawn mower all summer (6 mowings at an hour at a crack). I accidentally used my 50:1 ice fishing power auger gas can. If you burned through that gas, at most, you'll need a plug change. |

A gallon is 128 ounces, so 50:1 (gasoline to oil ratio) would require 128/50=2.56 ounces. But I have seen where some 2-stroke oils are apparently more concentrated or something so that less is required for the mix. Bottom line though is that it shouldn't be a problem at all. |

Bingo. Ooo, I did some looking into my new syn 2 stroke auger oil and it's actually 40:1 and I've been using 1.5+ oz per gallon. 3.2 oz per 2 gallons. (Message edited by buellinachinashop on September 11, 2008) |

Thanks guys! I didn't think it was possible to have a 200mi delayed effect. Therefore, I'll replace my spark plugs and rack up more drummer-thumping miles. I just went to the Harley Dealer.....$15k for bikes that can do less and haul less. Oh how I weep for today's elderly (Message edited by okc99 on September 11, 2008) |
