Alright this might seem crazy but I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas about transporting a hard drive on the Blast. I don't do it a lot but I sometimes load one onto my tail bag and head into work. One of my drive's power supplies stopped working but it was NEVER one i used on the bike. My boss and I are wondering if there is any safe way to do move them, thanks | ||

I'm confused. Hard drives don't have their own power supplies. Are you talking a portable drive that has an external power supply or something? Most hard drives these days are small enough to fit in a coat pocket. I have been carrying my laptop computer around in a gym bag strapped onto the back of my seat with bungee cords. | ||

I have strapped one in a backpack onto the back, and haven't had issues. I've ridden in with one almost daily for the last two weeks. | ||

I ride @ 80 miles daily with my laptop and external drive(s) strapped to the back seat in my laptop backpack and have never had any issues. The vibrations really aren't all that bad and a powered down drive has heads parked where no damage will occur if they do take a big hit. | ||

Go to the Aerostich (yes, yes . . . I know they are not a sponsor) website and order a fleece sack. Maybe even get two. The key is to have the drive in a loose sack that will absorb and dampen some of the vibration. V-Twins are notorious little rascals. The vibration is low freq/high amplitude and can unseat circuit boards. That being said I have never had a problem (I'm forgetting for the instant conversation the times I have jettisoned the laptop from the bike, yes and IBM will take it) but I generally either suspend the laptop in my backpack/courier bag or place it, loosely in fleece, in the luggage. By the way, I destroyed part of a Nikon lens in the tailbox of a BMSD single last week. I'm working on a special Uly project now. You'll do great! | ||

I carry my laptop and my imaging hard drive in a Timbuk 2 computer messenger bag every day. I am not comfortable having my computer strapped to my bike. | ||

I've been commuting to work every day all summer with both my work laptop and personal usb hard drive in a backpack strapped to my back. I have never had a problem, in fact I'd say the drives take more abuse from me tossing my bag around than getting shaken on the bike. | ||
