Hey gang,
Thought I'd throw in my two cents.....
I didn't spot any responses covering ALL of our insurance rates routinely going up as a result of some of these "joy-rides", so I guess I'll bring it up.
I feel the same way toward this subject as I do about car insurance. I don't feel it's my place to dictate to anyone how they should ride, however, I don't like to pay for other people's lack of personal control either. Any time the industry's rates go up as a result of cumulative accidents, including stunting gone wrong, or, any other "squidly" acts, who pays for it??? We all do! (at least those of us who choose to stay insured do)
Sure, I'll give "props" to anyone who has the skill to pull off the stunts, given the right place and time. That means a designated place where it's contained. Sure, it's pretty to watch, and the guys who usually do this stuff (generally) demonstrate an ability to maintain control of the bike during these stunts. That's great WHEN THEY GO RIGHT! Unfortunately, TOO OFTEN THEY GO WRONG!
There are just too many variables out on public roads, of which, most guys don't put enough thought into before they do it. That's the selfish part that often winds up costing us all. The public records on both fatal, and non-fatal motorcycle accidents don't lie, and the numbers are pretty telling. More people are hurt or killed each year through stunting, "hot-dogging", or generally out-riding their own abilities (on public roads) than any combination of car driver's unintentionally hitting motorcyclists. That's an easily substantiated fact. As most of us "old farts" know too well, it's tied directly to the testosterone level! (yeah, I just took another well-substantiated swipe at youth!)
We as riders tend to tell more stories about the guy in the intersection who "t-boned" someone, or, the guy who made a bad lane change and almost took us out, but, few of us take the responsibility for all of the stunting crap (raise your hands if you know who you are) that pisses off a lot of motorists in general, and gives us all a bad name!
For the sake of safety, as well as not driving insurance rates through the ceiling, why not keep it to a designated place that fully supports it? At least that way, we don't all pay for someone else' carelessness......

RTFO! Well said 01XJ. Last I checked, we did live in a free country. From what I saw on the vids it didn't look like anyone was hurt and Jenn's got some nice tootsies!

Inspired by this thread I went out in the country and attempted some stand up wheelies on my Harley. Now that was cool. The stoppies were even sweeter. Sorry I don't have any video...then I woke up. |

Thanx! I don't like to get up in anyone's face (so to speak), and I sure admire the "stunts" for what they are. I Just wish I didn't have to pay for the "down-side" of all of that!

Rice, very nice man. You haven't really answered any of the more technical questions about the wheelie...can you walk us noobs thru it? I promise I won't practice with a giant audience  (read, congested roads)

Dynoworks is putting on a track day I'm trying to get myself with the 1125 and a few of the buddies out to. We have a real mixed bag. A Daytona 675, an R6, a GSX-R 600, Speed Triple, Fat Boy, 1000RR, and Busa. We'd love some instruction from a more experience Buell Rider!
I also have a couple questions about prepping the 1125...do you mind if I throw you a PM? |

Sruzhyo- the doctors said they probably won't clear me to ride before my November 22nd track day. And if they don't by then- I'm going anyway!
Paint_shaker is going to be there on the 20-21st, and I'm going to try to ride over just to say hello. Since I've owned a T675 and a Speed Triple, I think you've got a great selection for fun at Jennings (Fat Boy and 'Busa- that's more challenging).
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have- Jennings in a great place, with wonderful people, and is very user friendly.
Also, for anyone attending JenningsGP in the future, if you don't mind a short drive you're always welcome to stay at my place (with advance notice- per wife) which can help save some pennies vs motel. |

they are very easy to do. second gear about 5/6000 rpm. let off the throttle quick and then feed it a bunch of gas. it will stand right up all the way to the balance point if you want.
you can level it out around 8/9000 rpm and keep it right there for how ever long you have. i can get 3rd gear ones but not consistantly yet(havent tried to many times). it takes a little more finess to get it to stand up that far starting in third.
longest is just under 4 miles. |

Rice, I'm used to 1st gear 5/6k wheelies but we'll have to try second...only one way to find out  |
