Went on my first long ride today. Hubby just got his license last week so we took out our bikes. Went over 120 miles in beautiful, sunny, perfect weather. Lots of bikes out, kind of cool to see groups of 10 or more. Noticed a few things, Gas cap DOES NOT want to come off. I spend about 5 minutes trying to get the stupid thing off. Anyone else have this problem. Also, HATE the mirrors. Dropped my bike once, not too bad. Was at a stop sign and I think my legs were simply tired. Anyways, bent the mirror, which loosened it. Such a pain to put back on. Hopefully I'll be able to get a new pair soon. Some that are a lot easier to fix if needed! Other than those two things it was nice. Went through a lot of rolling hills and curves. Doing them on the blast is definitley a lot of fun!

Might have to tighten that bolt a bit in the back of the cap - if that doesn't work - replace it - it should be under warranty have the dealer swap it out with another.

I took a couple first long rides this weekend. I'm feeling like I might be too big for this bike, but this bike was also last ridden by a gal that was about 5'3" and 120#. I'm 6'2" and 230#.

It has the low seat, which I'm trying desperately to replace with the standard seat for less than $90. I just can't pay more than that for a used seat.

How much adjustment is there on the bike. Is it wise to move the handlebars? Will the pegs / shifter / rear brake adjust at all position wise?

Shifter adjusts - adjust it, get superbike bars - 20 bucks, need grips also - your comfort level will greatly increased - a new seat is only a few bucks more and is a great improvement over the old seats being sold on Ebay. Your comfort with the Tall seat will minimize the rest of your issues.

Concur!!!
Brake pedal adjusts too.
Handlebars and seat (especially a Corbin) can make this feel like a much bigger bike. The low seat is even cramped for me and I'm 5'6" (though I do like the low seat)!

Dont be fooled by prices on ebay. I've seen tall seats go for more than new and turn signals go for 3x the price of new!

Should I ride down to Harley to have the bars / controls adjusted or is there a do-it-yourself logic I can follow?

Seats: I know... I can get it for $117 + Tax at the dealership. Used seats with cracks and tears are going for $90 after shipping.

I'm looking a pictures of SuperBike bars.

They look wider and lower than the stock bars. Wider I understand, but why lower? Is that going to cause me to have to lean over the tank like a sports bike?

Not really - and you can cut them down 1 1/2" on each side - I did - for lane splitting purposes - lol - your just a bit stretched out which is way more comfortable than pulled in with your elbows at your chest type of thing.

The Superbike Bars really make a big difference to how the Blast looks, feels, and handles.
When you finally put them on your Blast you will report back to us that "These are the bars the Blast should have come with"

Alright I'm sold : )

I was still waiting on a tire back ordered from Chaparral. I got them to add the handlebar to the order with free shipping.

But from my post above, is there a "How To" on adjusting the brake and shifter pedals? I think I see how to do it, but I'm not sure I know where to move them (up/down) for best comfort/control.

As far as "where" to position them, and not "how", the shifter is hard to give advice on. You don't want anything that strains your ankle because the shifter is too low and you don't want anything that is so high that it is difficult to fully engage an upshift with anything more than a flick of your ankle.

The foot brake is a lot easier. Simply position it so that while your foot is in a comfortable position when sitting on the bike, the brake is just below your foot so a little movement down begins to engage the brake. The last thing you want is to have your foot resting on the brake lever while riding. Too much space between your foot and the lever means you will have less than optimal leverage to exert full pressure on the rear brake should the need arise.

Dang...I thought the rear brake was for display purposes only.

I certainly agree about the superbike bars. That was one of my first mods.

The handlebars adjust easily with a set of allen wrenches.

You're way too big for the bike, but I'm your size and I like riding mine anyway. : )

It does get easier to ride long distances with practice. Whatever muscles it requires get built up.

I'm 6" flat and between 200 and 210# (Depending on what my beautiful wife makes for supper during the week) and thinking that rearsets are a MUST have item pretty soon. But I don't think that my Blast is unridable (is that a real word???) because of it, I just have to stay well hydrated and stretched out!

Ok and as to the how: It looks like for the shifter you just loosen the clamp bolt, reposition and tighten.

For the Brake, I see some adjustable linkage that looks like I just need to crank the nut one way or the other. My break pedal is a bit floppy as well. Can I tighten the bolt that the pedal pivots on, as long as the pedal still moves freely?

Am I missing anything?

Yes, those are the adjustments.
If the brake pedal bolt is tight, then tightening it more will just break the bolt. Replacing the bushing may tighten up the brake pedal, but 'loose' is generally normal. You can shim it up and rework it some, but its hardly worth the effort.
