I have a loose clutch cable where the clutch handle and the cable meet. I tried tightening the metal flange that looks like it takes a box end wrench but nothing to tighten it too. It keeps getting more loose. Thanks in advance for any tips. |

Roy, I might have misunderstood you but I think you are turning a guide if it is right at the clutch lever. The cable adjuster is covered by a rubber boot mid-cable, just below the front engine mount. Ideally, you should loosen this off, adjust the clutch behind the derby cover first and then adjust the cable for 1/16" to 1/8" at the lever end when pulling on the outer. There are several posts related to clutch adjustment in the KV - if you are desperate PM me and I can send you a photo of the page from the service manual. I can really recommend the factory manual - well worth the purchase price if you are going to take on any home maintenance. |

Royintulsa - I think you just need to adjust the clutch cable. It's done with the turn buckle in the cable. There should be about 1/8 inch of play between the cable and the lever when properly adjusted. (Message edited by jlnance on September 02, 2008) |

Be carefull adjusting it. mine was rusted and the jam nut rusted so bad when I forced it a bit it broke. the cable adjuster is cheap metal. Ordered a cable from American sportbike. |

The other thing to look for is the connection at the end of the cable. My cable broke flush with the end of the cable that is inserted into the clutch handle. I had all but one strand break and then I was unable to shift with the clutch anymore. And if you have to replace the cable just be careful when tightening the cable into the transfer case cover. Only hand tighten. I broke one off in the cover case by just a slight pull with a wrench. Brian |

Thanks guys, took all of two minutes thanks to you. Most of the two minutes was finding a 9/16ths wrench and a 1/2 inch wrench! |

Had a look in my Ulysses handbook According to the relevant page, I have to take my Ulysses back to the dealer to adjust the clutch cable free play |

The '06 owners manual is a little less hard line and says "If the clutch cable free play at the clutch lever bracket is out of specification, if the clutch slips under load, or if the clutch drags when released, adjust the clutch control cable. See a Buell dealer or a service manual for more information." I would definitely go with the second choice. |

See a Buell dealer or a service manual for more information." I would definitely go with the second choice. Given your pending trip and what appears to be a steep learning curve on basic motorcycle mechanics, the first choice might be wiser for now. |
