Sorry, no offence meant, and you're tired to listen to me, but do you know what closed loop means? In average the mixture will be (about) stoich, regardless what values you punch into the map.

So if you start to think about 76, 74, 70, 80 or whatever value - it almost doesn't matter. Perhaps you would like to accept the challenge to switch off closed loop and adjust idle once more. I do promise you most amazing and interesting insights into how combustion engines, fuel injection and the ECM works.

And, to prevent a false impression: the idea of the square idle is great, just because of it's simplicity.

Hi Gunter,

No need to apologize, no offence taken. I simply have no patience for rhetorical questions used condescendingly. And I am the first to admit to my ignorance with regard to this.

The theory behind the inner workings of the fuel map or EEPROM is of no interest to me whatsoever. ECMspy is your child and an elegant intuitive execution, at that; thank you once again, Gunter, for providing this for our bikes.

I am simply trying to cure two problems that I have which make my bike miserable for me to operate. 1.) a rotten bouncing idle and 2.) a cough/sneeze that appears as I come off idle and accelerate into traffic which, is unacceptable to me because it is so dangerous.

Treadmarks' square idle works, I know this because I’ve tried it, and (for me at least) it has worked well. Problem solved! Thanks TM.

My second problem is the cough/sneeze that takes place coming off of idle and accelerating. This problem it not unique to me, but many owners have this problem as well, and, in addition, jerkiness operating below 20MPH.

Theory aside, can you help with my second problem?

Provided I get enough data I might understand what the ECM is doing at that time and perhaps find a solution. But mileage may vary. If this problem occurs during warmup, chances are very small, as we will not get any information about mixture. The O2 sensor isn't working in the first one or two minutes after cold start and EGO correction starts even later. So no feedback at all. If the problem is related to acceleration enrichment, chances might be better, but nevertheless are small also, because accel enrichment takes place in such a short time, that we don't get any feedback because of the limited data rate when querying the ECM. And I would need binary logs as provided from the palm version, as I need to do some calculations which is not easily possible with the text log from the PC version.

Then I do remember having read some posts, that the most current stock EEPROM had apparently be modified by Buell to work better than the older ones. I don't know if this is true or not and if it might be Uly specific or covers all IB310 ECMs. But before putting any efforts into this all, I would ask to check that first.

The last constraint: stock configurations only. No airbox mod, no "free flow muffler", no white wire mod. The latter will be done in software, not hardware, to easily change that option.

Hi Gunter,

Yeah, my bike is completely stock.

Seems like the only option for me at this point is getting the logs in hand - I will do that next.

BTW, I loaded a new EEPROM from Xopti and added TM's square idle (detailed in another post), seems very promising so far, though. With Mike's permission, I'd be happy to share them with you, if you would like to see them.

My XB12S has a Drummer ex and KN air filter. Right now Im running 76X2 (800 & 1000 rpm cells) on the front cyl and 76X2 on the rear. Disabled closed loop at Idle and this thing sounds pretty darn good. Much nicer than the stock config.

After logging with a pair of WB sensors located approx 11" downstream on each pipe, seems the bike idles best in open loop with counts of 71 front and 61 rear for both the 800 and 1000 rpms colums @ 15 8-bit tps. Idles at around 950 rpm @ 13.8-14.0:1 AFR.
