Hello to all. New to this site. Forgive me if I am reviving an old topic. I am wanting a 2009 XB12SS - black. The local dealers have one on order, or they have already gotten their one. Only one? Of course, the "one" they are getting is not black. The dealers are not that interested in getting a black one for me. Just venting and asking is this business as usual for Buell? I have owned two HD's in my past and I am currently motorcycle-less. The Buell is my #1 choice. A Ducati is my second choice. The Ducati dealers are much more customer aware and willing to make a sale. I guess I am disappointed that the Buell/HD dealers do not seem to give a darn. Thanks for letting me rant.

-Bill

In my experience, black is the least common, don't ask me why? I had the same experience when I was looking to buy my Blk 08 12Ss. The original dealer didn't have one, nor did they offer to get one. So I just went to dealer number two and luckily they had one. I'm fortunate that I live in Milwaukee and have 4 Buell dealers in the area. I say take your business elsewhere.

Bill- Unfortunately, the "average" Buell dealer is pretty much like that. There are a very few, really good, really enthusiastic Buell dealers out there. Some of them are sponsors of this forum. Check the dealers/parts section here:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/17143.html?1220039460

I don't know anything about the dealers in Colorado; maybe somebody here can point you to a good one.

Put it this way- the bikes are worth the aggravation you sometimes have to put up with at the dealer.

Well Bill,

You have already learned quite a bit about the Buell business and you haven't even got one yet.

Lesson one: don't do any business with that dealer.

Lesson two: there is never any shortage of new Buells.

Lesson three: Any Harley dealer can locate any Buell you want on the HD net in about five minutes if he wants to.

Bottom Line: Let your fingers do the walking . Go to the Buell web site, go to "find dealer" . There are six in Colorado. I don't know any of them. If you don't get lucky with one of them, check the sponsor section, and call the closest one.

Getting a new Buell in the color you want shouldn't be any harder than getting a hand shake.

And a lot more fun.

One more thing... call H-D customer service and tell them about your situation. H-D's customer service is better than any company I've ever dealt with. Every message is sent to the right person, so Buell comments actually go to Buell people. They will follow up too. I have called several times over the years (to share the good as well as the bad), and have been very impressed with their pro-active attitude.

Give 'em an earful: (414) 343-4056

HD/Buell dealers will not get you a bike from another dealer, nor will they go out of their way to order a special one, tough sh*t thats just the way they are unfortunately. I can't tell you how many times myself, family and friends have been told to drive 3 hours to the other nearest dealers in the region and buy from them. Thats just the way harley does business, and they're making a killing off of it so they won't stop until they start losing business because of it.

My dealer here offered to check around to get the colour I wanted. Said there was a limited inventory but they could at least try for me. Good enough. Then I bought private, oh well.

Ha, gotta watch calling customer service though! its useful but at the same time make sure your bike isnt in the shop your calling about, I did it for mine and was told that calling HD/Buell wasnt going to solve my problem or get my bike fixed any faster and that I should take my bike to another dealer...ha so I went the next day, with a smile on my face and picked it up, and told them that the call did all i needed it to do(got me the information I needed, and just gave me a reason to completely boycott their shop, other than previous, less that satisfiable experiences.

court, i'm not saying your wrong, it may be bullshit where you're from, but in this area its all part of it, unfortunately! Trust me! i wish it wasnt, because I hate talking shit about a local shop like that, especially one that I literally grew up in(been going in their since i was 9, and have always gotten along great w/ the owner.) But the fact is people are willing to drive hours out of their way simply to avoid the Harley dealer in jackson, ms.

Jake, that sucks about your local dealer. I know for sure it’s an issue with your dealer, as after you posted about your VR backorder and issue, I sent mine in for the same thing. I am picking it up in a few hours. I will post more about it in the original thread. Also, I know my dealer would tap into the HD-net to get me the bike I want.

WOW! I have got to move over to America and open a Harley dealership. If they can afford to turn customers away then they must be making a mint!

How can it not be worth a dealers time to get the bike the customer wants. Do they not consider the after sales, servicing, accessories, maybe clothing.

We have some poor Buell dealers here in the UK, but even the bad ones will sell you a bike!

I am not giving up that easily. I visited the dealers in the Denver area. I called the dealers in Colorado Springs. I will be visiting them next week. One of the dealers has a 2008 CityX they are really wanting to sell. Grey. I have not sat/ridden on a CityX. I really like how the 09 ss feels. A little taller than the 08xb12s I road. There is just something intangible that I liked about the 09ss. Just my personal preference, I am not a big fan of the blue/red/any color wheels.

Again, thanks for letting me vent. I hope to be posting one of those "Just got my new bike" threads soon!

hd/buell dictates the stock levels here in Oz so I would be surprised if they would not talk to each other to make the sale.

To any business it is just 'stock' to be sold wether it's Baked Beans or motorcycles makes no difference.

But look at what you said . . .

The quote was bullshit weather or not you intended for it to be . . . .

Perhaps you meant to say . . .

quote:

HD/The Buell dealer in my area will not get you a bike from another dealer
this is modified by Court to illustrate a point

That'd be entirely different.

I read another post where someone blew something out their ass about "99% of all Buell dealers". You suppose it's really 99% or is it 87% . . perhaps 66%?. . . when I see sweeping generalizations it reminds me of bar talk . . . and I immediately shut my receiver off.

Write the truth, speak the truth, there are consequences.

Last year, not too long after the '08s were announced, I went to my local dealer and made a deposit on a TT. He placed the order. For various reasons, mostly related to 1125R production (I think) the delivery date moved. The dealer went to the H-D net and got mine from a dealer in Oregon.

So yeah, dealers will get bikes from other dealers. Where I live, anyway. And I'm not the only one he has done that for.

When I bought my '05 12r, the dealer was happy to locate the model and color I wanted, and had it in his shop in less than a week. Brian

I have run into all shapes and sizes of Asshats but my expierience in NJ has been very good with buell overall.
I will say ocasionaly you get the "I'm a Harley dude a-hole" treatment but not often and never in the shops I buy at.
There are some guys I get a giggle from one guy who works for a dealer I won't buy from says HARDLEY DAVIDSON bought MC AGUSTAS and BOOL's are not really selling here. I say really go figure huh see ya I gotta run

I live in WA state and my local Buell dealer did not have want I wanted, ... a new black '08 XB12Ss.

Dealer only stocked 2 or 3 Buells at any one time.

However, my dealer said that he would and could trade with participating dealers for what I wanted.

I had to wait 2 weeks, but I got exactly what I wanted, and I got a deal too that ended up saving me some $$$ and I received a $1,000 credit on merchandise that paid for saddlebags, heated grips, a manual, etc.

If your dealer wont deal, find another one, go out of state if you have to, it is your money we are talking about.

By the way, after a year I am happy with my choice and would do it again.

Millerwb, while I understand your frustration at not being able to get the exact color you want, maybe you can take the color they have and swap for someone elses plastics. The plastics swap REAL easy. Or keep an eye on eBay, and then sell yours once you've acquired the black plastic. This way you'll get to ride sooner and get more familiar with your bike, and worry about color later.

Just a friendly suggestion.

Oh, your dealer doesn’t have the bike in the color you want? That’s not a problem at Danbury HD. Pick a Uly, any Uly.

Also they have an excellent selection of the rest of the line up : )

Don’t forget accessories!

Here is what i posted in another thread:

Ok, I never rode a 08, so I can't compare. The 09 CR felt great. It is way different than every XB I have ever ridden. It was fine running around at low speeds. I was doing about 3k for most of my riding on the demo. It felt a lot weaker down low than the XB12's. After about 5 or 6k RPM it is nice and puts down a lot of power. I never got a chance to fully test it because of the demo ride speeds, but overall I am happy with it. Actually as odd as it sounds, my biggest complaint was that it revs too fast. It revs and sounds like an I4 bike. When I squeeze the clutch to up shift, it drops down to idle before my foot can move the shifter! My XB has perfect timing, by time I get it in the next gear; it’s about at where it needs to be for a smooth clutch release. I am sure it is something I would get used to in time.

I will put a deposit down the instant it’s available with 3 standard hard bags and all translucent blue plastics/wheels : )

Ok froggy I am jealous, you have a full Buell dealer that you can actually touch the accessories before you buy them and not have to guess via pictures. I deal with Palm Coast Harley , great to deal with ,but has zip for Buell accessories.

Actually to be honest they had a slim picking of accessories. They usually have more up, i guess they sold alot of crap over the last few days with the demo rides. There was a pair of blue rims up on the rack too but i don't know where those went ; )

Kind of offsets the other thread about Danbury's service dep't, doesn't it.

Back to OP, obviously some dealers will hunt down the one you want. Those are the shops to deal with.
