I just did my xb12x. This is easer if you remove the right hand fender mount, 4 torx screws. Loosen the allen pad retaining bold in the center of the caliper, near the edge. Then loosen the top and bottom mounting bolts. Remove the bottom bolt. Pivot the caliper counter clockwise. Clean and remove the reservoir cover. While minding fluid level in the reservoir, compress the caliper against the rotor, working both pads, to push the pistons back into the caliper, making room for the new pads. I did this using hand power. Remove the pad retaining bolt. Remove the outer pad by sliding it rearward, evenly as there isn't much clearance between it and the caliper, and it will get hung up. Remove the inner pad by sliding it rearward and turning 90 degrees. Remove the metal foil backing from the old pads and place the backing on the new pads, making sure it is flush against the pad. Insert the inner pad first. Insert the outer pad. Insert and finger tighten the pad retaining bolt. Apply thread lock(blue) to the lower caliper mounting bolt and finger tight. Remove upper mounting bolt, apply thread lock, reinsert, and finger tighten. Torque the upper and lower bolts, someone else needs to back me up, but I think the manual calls for 14 pounds, which didn't seem like enough to me. Tighten the pad retaining bolt. Check fluid level in the reservoir, remove any if required. Replace cover. Ride |
