Let's break it down: looks like cowboy boots, slacks or black jeans, visor up with no eye protection, "Oh sh*t, I'm over my head" look on face... probably a new rider, and definitely new to US129.

The first five minutes of riding I always have to remind myself.... pavement, lean into corners, dirt, cross body lean off corners...
And when I get to transition twice on the commute into work... it keeps you on your toes. Gotta love road construction.
Saddle up boys, the rodeo is in town.

Is that an 1125R behind the cowboy? I wonder if he or anyone else pulled Johnny aside and told him how to ride on the street VS. Dirt? I hope this rider is ok!

I don't know what al the hoopla is about! I see a very prepared rider, he has his foot down in preparation to drive himself out of the corner ala Fred Flinstone. Also notice that he is aware of the dense insect population in the wooded area and has taken the precaution of raising his visor so it will not be plastered with bug guts and inhibit his vision, also taking care not to have any goggles of any kind which would smear even quicker! Yes we could all learn a thing or two from this Asphaultian Gladiator.

Looks more like a CBR by the skinny ass mirror and the way the headlight is shaped.

Ha, I still catch myself doing the foot out thing.

But I believe in ATGATT so I dress a bit differently.

Give him a break, at least he's in the game.

Has been around long enough to thermo tape the pipes if it is his bike.

More likely on a test ride with the shop owner trailing him.

I'm not saying squat about him. I'll be doing the dragon a week from today probably dressed very similarly, 'cept the boots, I don't own any cowboy boots.

...and that broken leg is just wrong.

Kyrocket- the Dragon does not play... wear all the equipment you have and ride at your own pace- do not let anyone pressure you into riding over your skill level.

In my last seven trips to the Dragon/Cherohala area, only twice was there not a confirmed fatality. Beware of excessive speed, decreasing radius turns, and crossing the centerline (both you and others- trucks especially). Make sure to visit the "Tree of Shame" before you ride it- it gives you some perspective.

Otherwise- have fun!

Ohioxb12 you should be ashamed and turn your Buell keys in immediately. That front end does not even look close to an 1125r. Maybe this guy is a rodeo clown cause he is riding like a clown.

Thanks for the advice but although I've never ridden the dragon I can't believe it can be too much more than Black Mountain (for example) here in Ky. Especially in the Red River Gorge area where we have multiple switch backs. I've been riding/driving these roads for almost two decades and don't ever let anyone push me past what I feel comfortable with, plus I'm riding with a guy on an '89 FXR so I don't feel too threatened. After there we're heading up the Blue Ridge and then Skyline Dr. Let's ride!

It's not the switchbacks that are dangerous at the Dragon. It's that the majority of the turns are decreasing radius turns and / or off camber. Then, you have idiots crossing double yellows, 18 wheelers that can't navigate the turns without blocking the entire road. There are a ton of reasons why the Dragon is dangerous.

Having grown up in that area, and driven(car) many times back and forth across that stretch of 129 I can say the most dangerous thing today is the number of motorcyclist treating it as though it were Mecca. It is an awesome stretch of road for many types of vehicles, and for many different reasons. But it is still just a public road that serves the needs of many local people. It is not a racetrack or an amusement park. The local authorities have been remarkably patient. I wish that 9 out of 10 motorcyclist who go out of their way to do nothing more than run the "Dragon" would look closer to home for their own challenging road and leave 129 alone.

There are plenty of "Dragons" out there, go find yours. Play nice and keep it a secret or else expect a mob to show up and ruin the whole thing.

Lol thats great! I have a feeling he probably did this just to get on the frontpage. And who said the Dragon has off-camber corners? Those things are banked, but not off camber.

J2, my wife and I are Parrotheads, does that mean we shouldn't go to Key West or any more Buffett concerts? There's a huge festival in my town every year that draws over 100K people, since I grew up here can I tell everyone just to stay home because they clog the streets for three days? You ever been to a bike meet? Maybe you should think twice about going, you may make a local mad. I agree there are those who make a spectacle of themselves but not that they are the majority. I'll just be there for the afternoon, I promise to take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but tire prints. And being in CO. you won't even know I was there.

FYI...

I ran it on Monday (8/25) in the RAIN and TN Finest were still hiding back in the woods with radar guns waiting to give someone a hard time.

I am sure people are asking why the rain...just because i was there. Its nice to slow down a enjoy the view once in a while.

I don't think J2 meant everyone when he was speaking of the out-of-town crowd. There are lots of cool people here in AZ, but about 9 out of 10 are irritating rich snobs from California or Canada (I grew up in BC, moved here from CA, so I think I can talk. . .) who whine about the heat or the native wildlife and want a Starbucks on every block, etc.

I'm sure that as an experienced biker, you could appreciate a local's frustration with the squids clogging up one of the most beautiful roads in the country. They don't kick everyone out, and I don't think that would be fair, but I can't blame them for venting a little. I agree with J2. If you find something nice, you don't just broadcast it. I'm not saying keep it a secret, but maybe don't invite that new guy (guys like me) in the club for a run until he's been on a few track days. . . .

I recently went out to Tortilla Flat, and I'm just glad I went on a weekday. . .

Or I could be totally wrong. I'm young and new, my apologies if I misunderstood anything.
