History: Since new my x1 has cut out while at freeway speeds. A stutter or cough, then keeps going. Very annoying. I have deduced that it is an over lean condition, but how to solve? I found that if I do a TPS and AFV reset (to 100%) that it solves the problem for about 2500miles. What I believe I need to do is fatten the mid range up using ECMSpy, or force the AFV to never go below 90%.

Hopefully this will help some others fighting this.

I was flying today. Im interested in your findings. I just replaced my worn out tire and reminded myself that a worn out tire can actually cause a low speed cold abnormalties in the motor. Some people here also said that. Long time ago, cant remember ...anyway. Its only been a day for me with a NEw pilot 2, loving the tire. I was going to re re do the TPS before the tire change. Im going to study some more and find out how the ECM likes it.

+1 Bud

ECM is the Race/Buell, Race Header and muffler,Stock gutted intake with the Buell/K&N filter and small velocity stack.

It is the full Buell race kit as you would by from the factory.

However, even in stock condition, the bike had the cut out issue...even worse.

It did also have a surging problem, which was a bad engine temp sensor. As well I did check the intake seals, they are fine.

I am 100% convinced it is a fuel mapping problem. I have replace everything in the EFI, many rear tires, and the problem is still there. It also continues to manifest its self after about 2500 miles. I believe the ECM just continues to "learn & lean" to an over lean condition.

you have acces to ecm spy or some sort off program ?

you could check the power on the ecm ? ( with ecm spy )
it should be above 12,5 volts
( measured at the battery terminals 14 volts for normal battery loading )

i have seen allot x1 with 10-11 volts on the ecm, and that's low, no error codes, bt sometimes stuttering and drivabilaty problems.
clean the contacts on the startermotor connector, the can get really rusty, giving to much resistans and lowering the ecm power.

other thing, TPS sensor replaced ?
there's a metalog function in ecm spy,
see if it wil hold on a steady ( low )throttle a flat voltage reading.
seen a few working fine with agressive riding ,allot off throttle movement there ok, but at a cruising tps holding steady the drop there reading, and thereby tels the ecm to get fuel reading out of a other tps range thereby crewing up the afv and stuttering ect.

aha i got it its a bad head temp sensor it was failing without a code, it will in fact cause bike to run really lean, when you guys are saying fuel map problem your close check your sensor, these can actually fail and trow out no codes it took harley 9 months to figure it out on friends bike and he had exactly the same problem, this fixed it

Well mine has been replaced about a year ago. Also I have checked it in Ecm spy and the reading is constant and not erratic like a bad sensor will be. Your right though, a bad temp sensor will send everything to hell and can leave you stranded in a bad case.
