Needing money for other mods, so the "Berkshire Widget" prototype handlebars are for sale - $100 shipped anywhere in the lower 48.
These bars are beefy - 6061-T6 Aluminum, 1/2" thick plate and 7/8" solid round bar; 44oz total - a very strong & solid part. Bars are 26" wide, 25 deg. angle, ends are drilled out to take standard bar-end mounted mirrors, etc.
I like the lowest position, with the bars mounted to the underside of the plate as shown here - this position is similar to clip-ons with risers.
Mounting the bars on the top side of the plate (or flipping the whole assembly over - it's symmetrical) raises the grips 1-1/4". Another option would be to put the stock bar clamps on upside-down below the plate. That would raise it about 5/8" (15mm), which is halfway from the bottom-mount to the top-mount positions. You could also do both, which would be about 2-3/8" above the low position. (Message edited by berkshire on August 15, 2008) |

more pics:
Brake reservoir snugs in close for those who'd want to cram controls together and cut bars down for lane-splitting. (about 24-1/4" width is possible).
Bars will lock to either side, but switch housings must be rotated to avoid hitting horn & starter - required rotation isn't excessive. This is only for mounting bars in lowest position as shown - if using clamps as spacers or mounting bars above plate, then switches can be turned to any orientation without hitting when locking bars.

Thanks Duck! I just emailed you some installation tips (sorry for the delay!) but I forgot to mention the need to drill out the little anti-twist tabs in the switch housings, and how to modify the flyscreen for better fit/clearance, but it sounds like you already figured that stuff out for yourself! Subvert, yes, but I need to find an easier/faster way to make them - I'm looking into that now. One thing I'm thinking of is offering a cheaper "rough cut" version, and maybe a-la-carte pricing for different options. I'll send you an email when I come up with something. |
