I wish I could join in on the ride. Still trying to break in my newly rebuiltmotor. Anyone no any place I can ride easy still and have fun without beating up on my engine?

Break it in hard is how I do new bikes and or rebuilds. Rounded cross hatches let oil pass by IMHO. Ride it hard in all rpm ranges to seat the rings / break the hone ridges and change your oil early after break in and you will not see the aircooled motor "burn" oil.

Love to but my Uly is sitting on a ripped back tire and the shop tells me the new Sync wont be in till next Wednesday. I'm bummed. Mental note: tire plug kit (for the road) and spare tire set (on shelf at home). I will not be stranded or wait again for an order again.

Mr. Murphy,
I am sorry, my sister called me and wanted to know if I could watch her kids as her and her husband celebrate their anniversary.
I just got that call about 2 hours ago, so I can't go, I wont be able to show up until 8:30-9. I am hoping that they come home intime that I could still go out, so I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I didnt want you to show up and then me not be there, and wonder what the F***!
Any who, again, I will try, but my sister asked me to babysit at the very last minute.

Oh well get to go hang out with the nieces and nephews... cant really complain.

Family ROCKS!
Hope to see peoples tomorrow!

Thanks for the generous offer to use your Sync’s. I just read my email now and would have taken you up on it however I’ll bet odds are your out ridding right now. I hope to have the new tires Wednesday and have them mounted and ready for Saturday. Any suggestions for where to get Buell rims mounted and balanced on the North side of PHX? I’m near the 51 and 101. I know not too many places work on Buell rear hubs because of the diameter being too large for the balance machine. Thanks. Also, anyone been using the ECM spy w/ the MLV to tune their bike locally? I have ECM spy-2 and Palm Spy and would be willing to trade knowledge and tuning help. Two minds are better than one I say.

Wayne,
no problem with the parts, let me know when you need more to paint, LOL.
As far as riding is concerned, you need to take some time off so you can get out and enjoy your bikes! If you ever get a Saturday off, give me a call!

John,
I always keep a pair of scorpions for my S2 on hand, and a set of diablo strada's for my Uly so i'm always prepared.
As far as mounting is concerned, I've never had a problem with having my rear done, it's always the front that I've had problems getting mounted.
When I lived here before, I used to take my rims to the Honda/Kawa shop on Bell and 63rd ave. but they couldn't balance the front wheel because of the rotor mounting...
Are you removing the wheels to get your tires mounted? In Albuquerque I used to pay $30 for mounting and balancing at Thunderbird Harley/Buell if the wheels were off the bike... I'm not sure if they give similiar deals here in Phoenix. I'll have to check and see what they charge to do the wheels off the bike.

; )

My last set were the Strada's. Before that, 616. I am going to give the Sync's a shot and save my front Strada and order a rear for a back up. I hope the Sync is all they hype it up to be. Thanks again for the offer. I have a few days to search for a tire change. Last time I did it here in PHX it cost me $75 to do both and yes, they were off the bike. Does not seem right to me but what are you going to do. Also, the rear balance weight feel off w/in 300 miles. What a slap in the face that is.

There's a tire shop on 12th street and Mcdowell that has done two tire changes for me and always a great job.

I think it is called the wheel shop.

Cycle Gear on Cave Creek had no problem mounting and balancing the rear on my XB's. The mounted 3 sets of tires. Piece of advise, use painter's tape and a marker to mark the direction of rotation on the pulley, otherwise they might mount the tire backwards ; )

Hey John,
let us know how they do.
Wycked, where did you get your front tires mounted at, if Cycle gear didn't do it?

Also, another reminder that the 13th of September is fast approaching. So far 5 riders have made commitments.
We will be staying at the Rode Inn in Springerville, the number is: 928-333-4365, for those of you that want to make a reservation.
Some are riding up after work on Friday, I'm heading up early Friday morning and taking a scenic route.
Again, the main route for Saturday the 13th is down HWY 191 to Morienci for lunch, and then back up the same HWY to Springerville for dinner and BEERS!!!
Let us know if you plan on attending...

Went to cycle gear and had it done today. 60 for mount and balance. Not too bad. Anyway, I put 5 miles on them tonight and noted the bike felt taller. Very strange. This weekend they will get a full scrubbing to the sidewalls. Why pay full price for a tire unless you use the whole thing i say.

So what's the plan again for the 15th? Please advise. My bike will be ready..

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=37&post=1223780#POST1223780

Also see my post above...

If you want to scrub that tire some, a friend and I are taking our womenfolk out for a ride Saturday.
We'll be going west over Yarnell, through the spars to Prescott, up to Jerome, down to Camp Verde, over to Payson, and then back to the valley.
We are going to try rolling out of town about 8AM saturday morning, and figure to be back around 3 or 4PM.
If your interested, call me: 505-944-5963.

Yes, both ft/rr mounted & balanced for 60. Sorry but I just got the invite for the ride or would have went. I did however did get a chance to get in a spirited 3 hour ride and I must say, I think I really like the sync tires. Now lets see if they last as long as the 616 or the strada tires. They do seem to grab very well in the corners.

The ride went well, I was surprised to not see any cops up over Yarnell or the spars, so we enjoyed a spirited ride through there, the road to Jerome was nice and curvy, but very rough! Some of the curves were really choppy, and you had to almost crawl through them.
Once we got onto 260 though, the road opened up and the weather got downright chilly, it was shweet!!!
Hwy 89 down through Strawberry and Pine was equally as enjoyable. We stopped in Payson for lunch, and then headed down the huge sweepers along the Beeline.
An enjoyable ride for sure, although my Uly is still acting up, it surges terribly around 3000 RPM's and now is idling around 2000 RPM's.
And I just got it back from a month long stay at the shop!!!
I'm bummed I'm going to have to take it back, and who knows HOW long they will have it this time chasing this gremlin.

As for the tires, I used Syncs on the city-X and my S2, and get about 3500 miles out of the back tire, and 7500 from the front.
The Strada's give me about 8000 miles on the back. I could never get a Sync to last very long, but it's traction is most impressive, so I keep using them. ; )

Just two weeks until the big ride!!!

I just read in Cycle World that the "Wheels Through Time" museum is closing up shop in Maggie's Valley NC this Nov. and reopening "somewhere in northern AZ" in mid 09.
It's a GREAT motorcycle museum and congrats to you guys if it comes off as planned.

Say you guys wouldn't want to throw a Springfast type ride including the museum after it opens would you?

gotta keep an eye out here for upcoming rides, buddy!!!
We'll be having another one in October.

Unibear,
sounds good to me, although I don't think the scenery in northern AZ can compare to North Carolina. We're still gald though, anything to do with motorcycles is a good thing, and you know we have no problem of creating rides for our California friends!

OOPS! I'm sorry I missed your post, John!
Everyone met up in Springerville, at the Rode Inn.

Debbie and I rolled in around 4PM, after riding through a pretty nasty rain storm between Christopher Creek, and Showlow.
Kim from Santa Fe, was already there. Kelly and Lisette, showed up around 7:30PM. 5 people, 4 bikes.

Saturday morning we started prepping for the ride.

Kim lubes her chain, while I tease her about the benifits of a belt.

Here is Lisette on her Blast, unfortunately, it only made it 15 miles into the ride. She opted to turn back and continue the ride on the back of Kelly's GSXR.

She has had problems with the blast ever since Chandler HD/Buell worked on it last July. When they got it back, it was low on power, and the shop basically said too bad, it's out of warranty now, and you have to pay to fix it...
I can't say enough bad things about that stealership, and their crappy attitude towards their customers...
(ok, sorry about my rant, back to the ride pics...)

Here we are at Hannigans meadows, just north of Alpine. This short stretch of road was in the best condition, and had some wonderful curves...

The road was pretty decent, not as good as I've seen it in the past. The rains left some dirt and small gravel in some of the corners causing for some tense moments...
The views were spectacular.

So basically what we did was ride 191 south to Morienci, had lunch, and then turn around and come back.
We ran into some rain on the way back shortly after we left Morienci. Most of us had rain gear, Kelly and Lisette, because they were 2 up on the zuki had left theirs behind so they could pack their camera gear. Doh!
At least the rain didn't last long, and Debbie did the happy dance, while we waited for the gixxer to catch up to us.

We finally made it back to the hotel, and decided to start the party early...

I show off my high tech beer coozy

Kelly shows us how he can deep throat a beer bottle.

This sparked a little competition from Kim

Needless to say, we got pretty tanked up Saturday night. The management had to ask us to quiet down. debbie and I were howling at the full moon. Lisette ended up with rug burns on her cheek from the walk back to the room, LOL.

Sunday morning we had breakfast and all went our separate ways.
Kim, from Santa Fe, opted to take the southern route home since she had a few more days off. She headed east into New Mexico and then south to Silver City to enjoy some of the curves down that way.

We rode with Kelly and Lisette down US60, Lisette was back on the Blast limping it back home.
We stopped at the top of the Salt river Canyon to enjoy the views, before zipping down through it.

Some of the spectacular views, if you haven't been there yet:

And finally one of the many sharp turns along the river road, along with some more spectacular scenery,

I had a great time, as usual, and would like to thank Kim for coming all the way out from New Mexico, It was a pleasure seeing, and riding with her again.
And thanks to Kelly and Lisette, bummer the Blast didn't make it up in the elevations, maybe somebody in town can fix what Chandler HD screwed up, and the Blast can once again make it out on rides.
These longer rides are to die for if you can make it. One full day of intense corners along with one good evening of bench racing is for sure a good time.

John, again, i'm sorry I missed your post, my MSoutlook is screwed up and i'm not getting my automatic notifications when someone posts on the board. : (

If anyone would like to ride next weekend, I'd like to do a ride up through Yarnell pass, the spars, campe verde/ Hwy260 to Payson and back down the beeline to Fountain Hills.
Speak up if interested, this is a good way to meet AND ride with some of the local Buellers...

You need to slow down and smell the roses! Enjoy life some!

To anyone interested in getting together for a RIDE:
I'll be going out this Saturday up over Yarnell, through the spars, to Camp Verde, over 260 to Payson and then back down to the valley...

I'll be leaving from my house on the northwest side of town, (Glendale), around 8AM.
Let me know if your interested...
