I've been a Bueller since 2004 and used to own a Firebolt. Had to sell it to pay off a debt last year. Have been chomping at the bit to get the 1125 and am working with a dealer right now to get one. I've been reading this forum for some time and have read absolutely tons of info about kinks and fixes and such. Problem is I really don't know if I've seen them all. Could someone put all of the upgrades that need to be done in one message for me? Or point me in the right direction for the info. It would be greatly appreciated. I've loved Buells since the day they came out. The 1125r is simply awesome! Thanks in advance for any help. USA BABY!!! |

My advice is to get the 2009 model. Hopefully you won't need to do anything to it but ride it. I think some of the bugs might have been worked out of the 09 bike. |

Tru dat, what he said... but if you've got your heart set on a good close-out deal on an '08 - Electrical Issues - 1) Dead or low battery out of the box. Make sure it gets charged when you get her home. 2) Bad batteries - a few got replaced. 3) Poor Charging - a couple got stators replaced, a couple have had the Instrument Cluster replaced, several had Regulators replaced, several had loose ground lugs. Only add electrical accessories to the "Accessory Plug" under the fairing. 4) Turn Signals(rear) dying - recently, several BadWeBers have had the signals die, warranty replacement. 5) Security malfunctions and generally odd IC behavior - Low battery plays hell on the electronics - charge up the battery. 6) A very small number of early bikes - OCT or NOV - had the fan wires mis-routed and the fan wouldn't turn - re-route correctly. Fuel Issues - 1) Garage stinks after a ride - pages of solutions, leave the door open, put a fan in front of the bike, fill up with gas right before getting home to cold-soak the frame, etc. This problem goes with fuel boiling and hot running, no doubt exacerbated by a lean-running motor/ECM. Also included are California bikes with a pinched carbon canister hose. DON'T OVERFILL THE TANK. A couple of early bikes had cracked fuel rails, warranty replacement. 2) Runs Hot - Thermostat opens at 175˚, normal operating temp on an 80˚ day should be around 180˚-190˚, some are getting well into the 200s. An indication of the motor running lean, how much is unknown.. try to get into "learn mode" or wait for upcoming ECM reflash intended to fix the fueling ratios. 3) Sticking Throttle - a couple of bikes had poorly adjusted throttle bodies and the butterflies stuck - warranty replacement. Sometimes confused with this problem are instances where the Active Air Solenoid actuates - 3rd gear, 4-5k rpm, WFO followed by a bogggg. 4) Rough Running - very common, gave me fits for over 1k miles. I have had good results with 45mph in 3rd gear for at least 4 minutes to get her into "learn mode". This does NOT fix every case tho, an ECM flash from BMC is imminent to fix this, supposedly. 5) The 'Noid - mentioned in problem 3 above, this thing is a giant pest. Supposedly, it's only reason to exist is to pass EPA noise regs. When it kicks in when you're trying to pass or exiting a turn, it can be very disconcerting to have the throttle shut off when you expect full-balls-on-throttle. Many are now disconnected. Mechanical Issues - 1) OEM seat sux - replace with a Buell Select Tour Seat or butt-pleasing equivalent. 2) Poor Styling - get new glasses, she's gorgeous. My BiggestProblem™? My wife says she's lonesome since I got the bike. 12,048 miles of grins from my perspective. Z |

It's been said here more than once (and it's become on of my favorite sayings): The early bird may catch the worm, but it's the SECOND mouse that gets the cheese... |

Where do I get one of these seats you speak of Zac4mac? I can only stand about 2 hours on the stock unit. |

Z: Great that you are working. Too bad you only have a 7 mile ride. My daily commute is 55 miles of two lane TN back roads each way. If ya gotta commute, these are the roads, and this is the bike. Later Neil S. |

Great job Zac, excellent non-biased summary of problems. I would also add: the kickstand spring extension has broken on a few of us now (twice for me). finish on the muffler is quite poor. rear belt guard on several early productions were improperly fabricated / installed. Darcy |

Oh yeah, that and the Recall - Just talked to the SM today and got the ball rolling for my recall and RevB clutch cover. It's time to do the 12k service - At this point I'm dreading the first "engine rotation". I'm worried about getting distracted with all the cool stuff in there. Got all the tools and the Manual, I guess it won't be too bad. Z |

What's the story on the clutch cover? Is that a recall? or only if its leaking? |

The recall requires removal of the clutch cover. BMC will warranty-replace the RevA cover with a RevB cover if it leaks. Loretta has a very small, slow weep. I have not needed to add fluid yet. Easier to do them both together. Z |

Thanks you guys for all the great info. I have plunked around on here and found tons of info about fixes and stuff. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. In time I'll find them all. Goin to the dealer hopefully today to work on a deal for the 1125. Gonna trade my 07 Speed Triple. The triple is a great bike with tons of power and great reliability but at heart I feel, "Once a Bueller, always a Bueller" Cheers and thanks again.
