Hi to all, Today I have just purchased a X1 Lightning Millennium Edition with 8,800 miles on the clock, its in very nice condition except for one thing up to 3,000 RPM in runs really bad and seems very rich, over 3,000 revs it goes off like a scalded cat, its running a SuperTrapp exhaust system and a race ECU/ECM, any ideas how I can cure this as I am riding down to France on it in a couple of weeks and at the moment its like riding a sick pig in traffic, I am in the U.K. by the way, and I don't know if the ECU/ECM has been remapped or if anything has been mucked about with, Please Help if you can ! Regards, Clive. |

there are several items that can cause this one of the more common ones is the cylinder head temperature sensor. in the "chimney of the rear head" |

Thanks for your replies so far, it sort of idles OK when the engine is warm but bogs down when pulling away, it pulls cleanly from about 3,000 RPM but its nearly unridable low down. Hope this helps, Clive. |

How many discs are installed in the Super Trapp? The exhaust can be tuned for better low, mid, or high RPM performance. The more discs installed, the less back pressure and poor low to mid range performance. I don't recall the maximum number of discs recommended. I run eleven discs, but I don't have a race ECM. My bike has good mid-range performance. This may not be related to your problem, but if you have fifteen discs installed (I have read here of people with up to fifteen discs installed, more than recommended) that may contribute to your problem. You need some back pressure for good low end performance. Removing some discs will reduce the noise level also. |

The previous owner said it was running fine, it had not been used for a few months and when it was started after its lay up it ran like this. |

Sounds like you need a friend or a pro to run VDSTS and see where your baseline is. I however would be suspect of fuel delivery or even air leaks after the FI system, nothing is harder on a bike than extended down time...best of luck! |

I have a 99 that is doing the same thing exactly. In the past I have changed plugs and fuel filter to start. My bike also hasn't been run in a while. I haven't pulled the plugs yet but I bet they're fouled. Ill let you know. |
