Aw come on, only in 1st? I like to think of all gears as torquey. Personally I think it's just plain fun. It may be just getting used to a V-twin with a little attitude. I really hope you like it. As long as you like to ride I don't care what you prefer. If you really think you have a problem get back to here. Try and ride another to see if it is the same. Glad to meet you. |

I'm sitting here laughing about the herky jerky thing-- I KNOW EXACTLY what you mean..Y E S, Buells are way more differenter from the inline 4 Japanese bikes... Even perfectly tuned it won't ever be smooth like a 4 cyl.....nature of the beast, which I guess is part of what makes me like my Buell ( I'm on my second one now)..ride it for a while, in town, out on the highway, and find some back country roads. I've owned 80 or so bikes in my 46 years of bike riding and NOTHING is as much fun overall as a Buell...I prefer the Lightning models , currently riding an '05 XB12Scg.....get out and RIDE ! And welcome to "the madness" !!! |

I've had my STT for a few months now and am still wondering if it's normal for me to get the same sort of feeling. Off idle in 1st or 2nd it's as jerky as a dried beef strip, but once over 2k rpm it's all peaches. Damn embarrassing doing a local riding skills course where we needed to do things like thread cones or do figure eights with it coughing and spluttering, then I figured out to put it in 2nd or 3rd and let it idle through the course. Then it worked a treat. Might get the TPS checked at next service, but up till then I'll just learn to love the beast within. |

Sounds like a loose primary chain. |

Buells are not Harleys! You need to rev em over 2500. I've found the sweet spot to be around 3500 rpm. Your not on the meat of the cam till 3000 rpm |

"are all the Buell bikes so herky jerky in 1st gear when puttin along through a parking lot" That's exactly how I felt when I test drove my X1...The previous owner smiled when I asked the same question you are asking... The rest is history.. |
