How many miles are too many miles on a XB9(S) or (SX)? I'm looking to pick one up over the winter and wondering whats too many. I'm sure I'll get responses along the lines of "they can run forever if properly maintained" but that doesn't help me much. Just looking for a ballpark. Thanks, Mark |

How many miles, are too many miles, has more to do with the price of the motorcycle than the number of miles. |

Going to be difficult to answer your question. There are people here who have very high mileage on their bikes. You can't discount their input. I think what you are really after is how to tell if a machine has been well maintained or not. A bike with TLC can last forever, a reckless, rocket racer bike is old within a year or two. Look for mismatched pieces. Take the bike to highway speeds and accelerate from there (my coworker just bought a bike and found out afterwards that gears 2 and 6 were trashed, only apparent at highway speed). New handgrips, levers, axle bolts should raise suspicion. A good service record, or a well set up work area, will also give you clues. Don't worry to much about the numbers game, just pay accordingly. I can't see you getting an answer that, for example, states that at mile 57,386.7 the bike rolls over and dies. |

I'd think that a "streetracer" or "stunter" type owner could thrash any bike by 10K miles A RIDER can put 30K on a bike and it'll still run like new. See if the type of rider you're buying from gives you any clues as to HOW the bike's been ridden. Constant bouncing off of the rev limiter isn't in any way good for these engines. |

I have to add - Sunny and I are looking for a bike for her... thinking a CityX or Lightning Low - we're going through the same thought processes. |

At 23k miles, my XB9SX is still solid as a rock. I am thinking I should (finally) do my fork oil change, and I will probably switch to the new improved oil pump drive gear over the winter. Other then that, it might as well be new. So just factor in the necessary maintenance for the age into the price. Even with my M2... Given all the stuff I fixed on that bike (and every fix included an improved part), that bike was probably a "better bike" at 30k miles when I sold it then it was at 5k when I bought it. |

'06 XB9SX just turned 21k and it's still running like a dream. I do nothing special. I just bring it in for the scheduled service intervals. I ride every day, rain or shine. |
