Will not. Milwaukee iron won't mesh with Austrian technology. |

Baker has an XL6speed, last time I checked it was spendy (2500) and wasnt then combatible with the Buell. There will be a Buell Dirt bike before you see a 6 speed on the XB. |

The baker doesn't fit the newer-style XL engines ('03 up for Buell, '04 up for Sportsters). At least that's the last I knew. |

Yes, you can make it work,.. you just have to have God like powers. |

I think even God would be hard pressed to make that happen |

I think the Baker 6 speed only works on sportster trans. with the trap door, like XL1200r said. |

No Baker 6speed available for XBs (I am a Baker dealer). Only available for "trap door" type bikes. |

I've been wishing for one of these lately as well. But you know what they say about wishing... "Wish in one hand, sh!t in the other, and see which one fills up first!" ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on August 14, 2008) |

Why do you think you need a 6 speed. I don't use all 5 gears now...... |

We all hit the slab sometimes. Unfortunately for me I'm on it everyday to work and back. 6th would be nice. |

Have you thought about a chain conversion ? You should be able to find a ratio(s) that will work for you. You can also play with the primary ratio if you don't want the mess and maintenance of a secondary chain. Do you have a 9 or a 12 ? |

"what is this "trap door" that you are talking about?" Sorry to be so blunt. All Buell tubers (pre-02) and XLs (pre -03) have "trap doors" which allow the transmission to be removed as a complete assembly in about 45 mins. XBs and 04 and up XLs have to have the engine cases taken apart to allow access to the transmission. Obviously major labour intensive to do trans work on the later models. |

"Why do you think you need a 6 speed. I don't use all 5 gears now......" I concur - I rarely get my XB12 into 5th unless I am on a fairly fast piece of highway. I love only having to shift through 4 gears!!! |

So like around town and such, in 45 mph zones (or km equivalent) you're just staying in 4th gear?? Doesn't the increased engine noise become bothersome, especially on xb9 ?? |

I grab 5th at about 50-55 unless I'm being "spirited". |

Ditto. When you're cruising at nearly 80mph and turning ~4k rpms, I can't help but think a 6th gear would give you a little better mpg. Some of us actually have to hit the highway to get to work. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on August 15, 2008) |

Yeah I do about 10 miles of highway each way to work and would love to have a 6th. |

I would have liked the 6th gear also. Freeway riding would be much nicer with a 6th gear. |

Well, the 6 speed thing is nearly impossible to make work, if you guys want to make yourself useful, research which Harleys use 14mm belt pitch, there are all kinds of front belt pulleys that are bigger than our XB12 ones and there are belts on ebay too, with different length. |

"There will be a Buell Dirt bike before you see a 6 speed on the XB." The Sportster is the the only bike in the Harley line-up not available with a 6-speed. If HD sees fit to give it an extra gear (which it really does need) then the XB will also have one. It depends on what the Company (HD) will do. |

Djkaplan - Only one problem with that $$$$ if they ad a 6th gear to the sportster that will push its price up. Possibly decreasing its sales. I feel at this point the only reason there is not a 6 speed on the sportster or on the buell lineup is profit margin. They did put a 6 speed in the 1125 series. But look at that price tag |

A Kawasaki Ninja 250 has a had 6-speed trans for decades. They're $3500 new. Cost of the trans is not the issue. Cost of development is. I woudln't count on seeing a 6-speed in an XL-based engine from the factory. |

Only time will tell. If HD intends on selling XL engines for another decade, the extra gear would certainly help. But if the old XL engine is destined for the boneyard any time soon, it wouldn't be worth it to the Company. It wasn't too long ago when people said Harley wouldn't add a 5th gear to the Sportster or Big Twin and that they didn't need them anyway. Now all the Big Twins have 2 more gears. What I find most intriguing about the whole trapdoor issue (it's a huge issue if you got transmission problems) is that the stock XB cases won't accept one (and consequently not the Baker 6-speed) but the XBRR racebike does have a trapdoor transmission and enjoys the same benefits of it as the tubers do. |

All Buell tubers (pre-02) and XLs (pre -03) have "trap doors" which allow the transmission to be removed as a complete assembly in about 45 mins. I think you are off by one year for both bikes. Tubers where sold up to 2002 and I believe the Sportster when 'doorless' when it went rubbermounted. I could probably have my tuber's transmission out and in my hands in 15 minutes if I had the tools laid out and someone opening my beers for me. |

When I ride to work. I take the interstate the whole way. 30 minutes of 4k + RPM. I'm fine with it, maybe you guys are missing some man parts down south? Muffler is gutted too. (Message edited by mr2shim on August 15, 2008) |

Why would someone have no balls if they want another gear heck if anything it would be more bad@$$ with a 6 speed. |

When you're cruising at nearly 80mph and turning ~4k rpms, I can't help but think a 6th gear would give you a little better mpg. Lower rpms doesn't always equal better mileage. engines have a "sweet spot", where the best mpg is realized. I remember a discussion about this a while back, several people reported gettin better mileage at a slightly higher rpm on the highway. |
