Carlos, Sounds great for Marion. To kick it back to you: How late do you feel comfortable leaving Marion? I do not have a feel for how long it will take from Marion to the campground, as I have not traveled that area before. Judging by Google, I think it will take me about 2.5 hrs or so to get to Marion from home, if I take all Xpressway. I would prefer if you give me a time, and I have to make it there by then (or tell you I can't). Lessens the chance that I become "That Guy" around the campfire that cost you a good dinner. Uly's clutch seems to be working great now that I got those undersize Energy One plates out of it, and I just mounted up the GPS cradle tonight. Put the tall shield back on, and now all I have to do is...100 other things! No worries though, so I hope it works out. Lemme know what time you are comfortable with. - Jim (Message edited by ArcticKTM on August 12, 2008) |

Jim, If we take the slab all the way it takes four hours. Taking the way I want to go its a bit over seven hours according to Google Maps. We will be in and around the slab all day so if we get behind schedule we can make up time. We will hit the slab for a small 17 mile section near Beckley WV. If we are behind schedule at that time we can motor up I-77 and make time up fast. If we can be on our way out of Marion by 10am, we should be fine. Does that sound doable? |

I sure would be thinking about riding 16 from Marion to Hillsville. But I wouldn't miss Friday's dinner for all the curves in Buell Land. |

Carlos, Sounds good! I can be at the Mickey D's in Marion by 10am. I will get your phone# off the roll call list. My cell is in the roll call thread as well (posted last night). Looking forward to it! Any chance you have a route in mind you could send me (to load in my GPS and try it out)? |

How early is to early to arrive Friday morning? 7:00?, 8:00?, 9:00? I know that Thursday nights festivities may have some people sleeping in but I hate to waste daylight when I could be riding twisties. My new tire showed up TODAY. The shop is to busy to change it tonight and I'm to busy tomorrow evening (relatives) so I guess I'll have to get through this weekend on what is left of the one that is on the bike. I'm about 1/16" from the wear bars right now. Hopefully that will get me through. |

BTW, how is this place for security? I'd kind of like to leave the Uly's bags behind when we ride, but I won't do it at the cost of, well, my bags. Anyone bringing a trailer or cage to lock stuff up in? Just askin'.... |

Don, I've got plenty of lockable space in the trailer. Also if anybody needs a tent to crash in, mine is huge. I'm bringing firewood and firewater, I hope both are permitted. I'm aired, gassed, watered, washed and ready to roll.(not me, my stuff) Leaving Ocean City, Md. at about 8am, should be at campground by 4pm Thursday. SteveH |

I drove out to the campground after work tonight and threw a tent up. I should have read the posts more closely (idiot), wound up at a 'regular' campsite #16 which happens to be quite huge so if anyone needs a spot for a tent or two...yar welcome to splat down by my old green boy scout tent. The campground hosts are Diane&Alan and can be reached at 304 643 4777. The main park number is 304 643 2931. The campground is a little 'on the way in' to the park if you're coming from Harrisville. Taking route 16 from US50 it is 6.5 miles to the entrance on your right (nice new strip of asphalt going up a hill). The hosts say they've been full the last couple of weekends but it looks like there's a ton of space. Firewood available for four bucks, not sure if they're picky about imported wood like some other places. There's lots of deer about (almost like a zoo) so be careful if you're riding around dusk. US50 around Clarksburg is local speed-trap of sorts as is US19 around Summersville. Have a safe ride yall... |

Carlos and Jim, My plans are now set in dust, or sand, maybe plaster, almost concrete. I will meet you guys in Marion Friday at about 9:30 am and ride on with you all. That works well for me. I am short on time tomorrow and have things that must be done before I leave. That wouldn't have me leaving out until about 3:00 Thursday anyway. I am about 135 miles from Marion. Piece 'O cake! I will see you then! |

Good recon there, Ken! It always helps to have extra boots on the ground, so to speak. The ride info should be very helpful. M2nc, remember the LAST time the south invaded the north... only THAT time, it was the south that came up against Uly...I can't say alot about the N vs. S thing, my mama is from NE Arkansas, daddy's the yankee.....rebel blood AND yankee blood....sometimes, I'm not so sure which prevails! Last post before departure. See ya'll in WV! LOL |
