I check my oil level with the bike on the kick stand, is this correct. Or should it be checked upright on a rear wheel stand? I didnt see anything in the manual about this. | ||

It should be on the side stand; engine warm. Surely it's in the manual... | ||

Best to ride it for a while, five miles or so. On the side stand. Oil level is best at lower two or three X"s on the bottom of the stick. | ||

Keep in mind too that even if your warm oil level is in the "add" section, it is only about 1/8th of a quart low. | ||

I knew about the oil being warm, its mentioned in the manual. But I dont remember the sidestand or rear stand being mention when checking oil levels. The oil is around the bottom two x's also, and seems not to move from these levels. But when the oil is changed and the oil levels are at the max, the bike seems to us oil until it gets to the last two x's. Anyone else experiance this. And why do these bike use oil? | ||

Yes, 2 x's is the happy spot. Any more it will just burn it off  | ||

They don't really use oil in the classic sense, but tend to blow it in to the airbox, burning some indirectly through the intake. | ||

And greasing your sensor and throttle body nicely. | ||

A good while back there were several threads concerning the high usage of oil on the Uly's. It was found that the guys trying to keep the oil at the full mark on the stick were the ones with the problem. When it is down to the lower end of the stick it will stay there for a long time before needing to add any oil. The excess oil was found lying around inside the airbox. The more oil that was added to keep it at the top marks, was all the more oil in the air box. So it is not using or burning the oil, it is just pumping it into the air box. When I change my oil I put in 2.5 quarts. Where that ends up on the stick is what I consider full. That is about the second X on the stick. My '06 has over 30,000 miles on it now and only uses about a half of a quart between changes that I do at 3,000 mile intervals. It is about the same as when it was new. | ||

Depending on your weight and the appropiate suspension sttings the angle of the bike on the side stand can change quite a bit. Or as they say on T.V. "I'm just saying". | ||
