Eric Buell

You are so concerned about Buell that you can't even spell its founder's name correctly.

yet was less "offensive"

You are becoming "offensive" very quickly. That's MY opinion.

"Now do you see the importance of building a bike that's different, but still wanted by a large percentage of the buying public? "

If it's wanted by a large percentage of the buying public, it will no longer be "different". To most of us, that's part of the beauty of the 1125. Excellent performance from both a machine perspective and a rider's perspective and unique in it's style. You won't have any luck trying to change our opinion of what the 1125 should be. We bought it because we liked it, and Erik built it the way he did for a reason. You don't have to like it but it is far from a sales failure..Once again though, if you want something more mainstream, buy something more mainstream.

I would suggest that Buell should have Tamburini design the next model of 1125, since he is now on the HD payroll. Also, give him complete design freedom. Don't specify that the muffler has to be under the frame and the fuel in the frame, with side mount radiators with short wheelbase. Those elements are responsible for the way the bike looks. And before anyone takes this the wrong way, I'm not saying the Buell is ugly, just that Tamburini designs are beautiful.

Red, you said: "... the truth is that a rather large percentage of the riding public does not like the design."

Do you have surveys to back up your claim? My experience with the general public would suggest otherwise. And, your sampling seems more biased--- mostly riders of Japanese-made sportsbikes. There are other segments of the population (who would actually prefer a V-Twin to an IL4). Take me, for example. The 1125R is my FIRST bike.

Your statements remind of how the new MINI was received back in 2002. Many, many people hated it... particularly owners of the old Mini in the UK. But it did catch on with the public and it is a successful car. As successful in sales as a Toyota Camry? No, but the Camry is not exactly an enthusiast's car.

So far--- in less than one year--- Buell seems to have sold around 4000 of these bikes (based on our sequential numbers). Isn't this successful? It may never sell as many as Suzuki--- but THAT'S GOOD!

Court:

I like your version better. The version I remember was ". . . if it's "pods" are big enough, looks become insignificant."

Back on topic:

Smoke you are right, let's ride! My 55 mile ride in this AM on TN back roads was P-E-R-F-E-C-T 55deg, beautiful sunrise, beautiful ride!

Even "ugly ducklings" can be pretty with the right lighting. Does this picture make my pods look big???

When you have a subject that is this photogenic, all you have to do is wait for the right conditions.

Hey Neil,

I remember when I got to work the first night with my 11, I showed it to one close friend. Shortly after, the guys starting rolling out of the building BIG TIME to see the new baby. Little by little throughout the night, I kept entertaining requests to see and start the bike for them. My boss was getting pretty pissed-off! It was actually kinda funny!

As word spread quickly throughout the night, I think I topped just over 30 requests for me to take people out to show it to them! (probably no surprise to many of you!) Over the next few weeks, many people randomly stopped me and complimented me on the bike.

I'd find people hovering around the bike in the parking lot all the time, studying the shape and talking about the features. I almost felt bad having to pull out and leave a crowd standing there, but, I have to sleep sometime! Most everyone there has seen it by now, so it's slowed down quite a bit, but, I still get a lot of compliments on it.

I don't know about you guys, but, I still can't pull up to an average stop light without someone asking me questions, or, complimenting me on it. I don't ever remember ANY of my other bikes generating this much attention......

I'm not looking for attention, nor, did I buy it for that reason, but, so far, it's been pretty damn flattering, and, a testament to the unique design. I just bought it for my usual reasons. I LIKED IT, I WANTED IT, I BOUGHT IT!! Pretty simple-minded, eh?

Heck, any time you get people "stirring" this much over something, good or bad, it must be unique! All I know is I'm sure lovin' it more than I thought I would.....

Peace out, Tracy

I think that may be the best 1125 picture in existence.

The back end of the bike matches the fronts bulk.

Very nice!

Friday's morning ride to work. Old Hickory lake is less than a 1/2 mile from home.

A little more of my art and Erik's:
