Wow Jim, third world whores really do work for cookies. But you might want to find one from your species... |

Well since my bike will be out of commission for a couple weeks. I figured i'd try to build myself a "drummer" style muffler. I remember reading in here a long time ago. That someone might have the dimensions or a template for the end cap. If so is there anyway I could get them? Or if someone has the machining capabilities to make an end cap. I'd gladly pay to have one made. |

Yup...that's gay!!! Hey Tat...I have the design and the water jet...just need the material...no $ necessary. I went with stainless steel for the plates and exhaust tip (I have plenty of material left for the tip...if you want a nice big fat heavy piece...looks damn good though). The only other thing you'll need is the perf'd stainless for the core and some stainless steel wool... I'll try to dig up the info for the best prices/places I got my stuff from this week. |

Thanks a ton JP. I have the perforated steel and packing already. I'd like to go with aluminum for the end cap and tip. If you could let me know what sizes I will need for both. I'll order them. I could make a plate out of some mild steel to weld on the end, but that would be permanent. I'm looking to have one that bolts on. Just incase I ever need to repack the damn thing. |

jp and jim...is it possible to jump on this bandwagon and get another done? no pressure. jp your pipe is a homemade drummer, or spec ops? (Message edited by chippy on August 12, 2008) |

That's fine with me Chippy. The only one that I know the internals of is the Drummer. I have no idea what's in a spec ops can. Maybe someone here can shed some light on that subject. I'll be gutt'n one of my stock pipes at work today. I'll let ya all know how it goes. |

It just so happens that I do have some aluminum at work...I'll get you the thickness when I get there... I'll warn you though...forget about the bolting idea. Sounds great but don't work too good...at least when you drag the tip it doesn't. Mine started bolted and then got ripped out so went to welding instead. Chippy - no problem on my end...and yeah...it's a Drummer type. |

I'll keep it nice an short. The ladies like a short fat tip anyways. It's not the length of the tip that matters. It's all in how ya use it. |

Muffler is gutted. Just need to weld it back up when I get home. How thick should the sound deadener be? I'm thinking about 1/2"? (Message edited by tattoo72 on August 12, 2008) |

If anybody is interested in drag racing tomorrow night at NED let me know. This Wednesday and a week from this Friday (the 22nd) are the only nights I can make it for the rest of the month. |

Depending on her mood, I would like to go Scott. Don't know if it's possible thought since I've been gone for 10 days. Oh Hi honey, I know I've been gone but do you mind if I split and hang out with Scott and go dragracing? Yea sure you can do all my dirty laundry from my business trip while I go play. Highly doubtful but stranger things have happened. If anyone else wants to go, I have a tie-down strap for the front end that you can borrow. |

Here is how i'm doing mine. So far I have about 45 minutes into it. Tools used so far. Hacksaw, 4-1/2" grinder with cut off wheel, vise grips and a hammer. step 1: cut off end cap step 2: make a t-cut in muffler step 3: use vise-grip and hammer to remove muffler guts. step 4: cut front jack plate from guts and cut off middle and right side tubes. To be continued..... |

Step 5: Cut block off plate. Just incase anyone wants to see what the inside of a gutted can looks like.

Are they louder than a race pipe YES. JP & Eric built one. Different method, same madness. And where a KD Fab Drummer is packed with fiberglass, JP packed it with SS wool. A tad louder than glass, but it won't break down as fast. And thanks for making with the pics, Tat. So now you've got a race can and you'll soon have a modded stocker... Keep it up and you'll surpass Eric with the spare exhaust collection. (Message edited by scotty_j on August 13, 2008) |

Nope race can is gone. Bought it for $250. Looked inside it with a borescope to see how it was put together. Then polished it and sold it on Ebay a day later for $570. I have 3 stock cans. I plan on making one into a "drummer", one into a race can, and leaving one stock. Plus I still have the "black box", that hasn't sold on ebay yet. There really is nothing special inside a race can. You could easily replicate one from a stock can for about $40. (Message edited by tattoo72 on August 13, 2008) |

I agree, they are easy to make with a little time and patience. It has been discussed and argued over in the past. Nice job Tat! looks well on it's way. with all the mufflers I have tried so far, My Jardine is the best for sound/performance & weight. The weight thing is a big one. Pick up a Jardine and any other muffler and you will say "Why am I putting this tank of a muffler on my bike"?...LOL It is still fun building this crap though.... I been looking at a Big Bore Kit Lately. Almost ready to pull the trigger, But need to get the kids Dirt bikes first. I promised them bikes before i shell any more cash into mine. Mine is ready to grenade soon, not sure if it is the valves, push rods or a oil pump gear, it needs some loving....LOL |

why kick it around, Just do it! I mean unless your bike will not ever use the power. I'd rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Drummers...The biggest, over rated, over priced muffler on Badweb. Just hollow out the can and there ya go. nothing special in there & it has been proven time and again. I will tear into any muffler, and call it "The Pain Killer" Cuz it won't be "killer" your wallet but will bring sweet "Pain" to your ears! |

But Eric, aren't you forgetting about the Magic Mouse that is installed in every faithful Drummer owner's can? You know, the one that sucks up all of the exhaust gases and farts them out, thereby improving torque, peak HP, and sound? Where is Tat going to source one of them? And they don't carry them at PetSmart; I looked. And on a different note: Coldplay SUCKS!! (Message edited by scotty_j on August 13, 2008) |
