So beauty is not determined by individual observers but by society? Okay. Fair enough.

So who gets to choose?

Is it the thing/person viewed by the most people to be beautiful . . . or is it the thing/person who is determined to be most beautiful by "experts"?

. . . put another way, which is a better book? Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, or The Plague by Camus?

If society determines the quality of something then isn't Harry Potter clearly the better book?

. . . but educated literary critics would probably choose Camus.

How can both answers be correct?

And what happens when an educated literary critic chooses Harry Potter? (I'm sure there are many out there who could argue that point)

And what happens when you change the question from the broad, general: "Which is the better book?" to: "Which is the better book to keep a nine year old occupied?"

What if the answer to which motorcycle is more beautiful is different if you ask an Italian or an American? What if instead of asking "Which is most beautiful?" you ask "Which is most unique?" or "Which is most eye-catching?" or "Which looks tougher?" or "Which looks faster?" or "Which looks more bad-ass?"

If you asked a Ducati forum and a Harley forum: "What makes a good-looking bike?" Is it possible those two groups might disagree?

How many people buy a motorcycle because it's "beautiful"?

Does "beautiful" imply a bike is feminine?

If there is, as some would propose, a single, correct answer to the question: "Which bike is better looking?" and it's not a subjective question, then prove it.

I challenge anyone here to create a definition of a good looking bike that we will all agree on.

I propose that it's impossible, but if you believe otherwise, give us the definition.

If you can't even state the definition (and I don't think anyone here can), then how can you claim it is valid?

One thing I haven't seen much discussion of is the Quiet Zone on the 1125R. I am curious what the real world experiences are coming from an XB (particularly an S).

Spive:

Coming from an XB9R, I can say that the "Quiet Zone" makes a HUGE difference. It is very noticeable. I'm afraid I can't comment on the difference from an XB-S model.

good points Elvis. is beauty measured on physical appearance only or are there other attributes that have influence? what makes one opinion concerning beauty more valid then another? to me, beauty is not objective, but subjective. but that's just my opinion.
going for a ride on the 1125r while it is not too hot outside. 96F yesterday afternoon.

I can't say I noticed any difference coming off my XB12R with a double-bubble windshild. In was nice, but still felt just as windy to me.

For kicks, I tucked in just to see how quiet it got, and I actually noticed more wind and noise, so I didn't try it again at that point.

When I was on my test ride, I could tell a big difference on the highway from the cityX. Wind noise at 100 mph on the 1125r was like 45 mph on the cityX.

Also, I didn't wear ear plugs like I usually do, cuz I wanted the full effect.

Pictures of the CR do not do it justice. I saw both colors of the CR at the Rapid City Auditorium on Thursday and it is just an awesome looking bike. I like the Red better. It is the most predatory looking bike I've seen. I sat on it and can't get the thing out of my mind. Can't wait to demo it. For whatever reason they weren't demo'ing it at Rapid City with the weak excuse that they were making them for dealers and had no extras for demo. By the way, the radiator pincers that look huge and ungainly in the photos do not look that way when you actually stand next to it or sit on it. Gadzooks that bike is just plain cool looking. I think Buell has a real engineering winner with those pod radiators. When you turn those fancy shaped 1125CR handlebars you can see how the forks turn within the pincer pods, just great engineering in my most humble estimation. I want one. Or better yet, move the pegs forward for more upright seating and give me my watercooled ULY asap.

On my 11, Loretta, I can't tuck fully with my helmet(Nolan N-100c), due to 3 fused disks in my neck.
Without, however, I can tuck in to the point that I AM in the "quiet zone".
It's really quiet, The valvetrain dominates my hearing.
Much warmer on a cool or cold day too.

Today was hot, till time to go home from the shop.
Thunderstorms dropped the temp by 20˚ in 15 minutes.
I rode home tucked and warm.

Divorces are expensive, but they're worth it.

Which monster did you get?

Oddball it is the S2R1000. The air cooled one. It is pretty much on par with my XB12S. Your first line is starting to ring true with me.

Ah, your an 'old schooler' in the monster world now. Don't forget to complain about the 696's aluminum subframe, headlight, and plastic tank panels.

I'd love to see a monster 848.
