I was on the last lap, second session at the brand new NJ Motorsports Park on Monday, just getting my groove on when I lost power and the check engine light came on. Shit..... I limped in to the infield and the acronym for front ignition system error came up on the console. The bike was barely running & wouldn't idle. Luckily I was able to make it to the Liberty truck to show it to Chris (Odenbueller). We discussed it some & he theorized that it might be something stupid like a loose plug to the front coil. He told me how to get at the plug which entails removing a snorkle that mounts between the frame and front head. We let the bike cool off and I took the snorkle and intake air sensor off. He reached up between the frame where you can't possibly even see and found the loose plug. He pushed it back on, the bike ran fine, and we declared victory. I suited up, did a squidly wheelie for the Liberty boys and the check engine light came back on. It seems that when you push the snorkle back in, which is no easy task, it loosens up the plug. Being a very tenacious MF'er, I went through the procedure 4 more times while Court gleefully watched & photographed until I got the god damned snorkle in without popping off the plug. After that I had a truly outstanding day dicing back & forth with Liberty's "Thou shalt not whine" boys. Many thanks to Chris for pointing me in the right direction and to the boys from Virginia too, for lending me the 1125 service manual. Chris truly saved the day for me. Liberty HD does it again. |

What can I say . . I just dug this damper, dampner, dampener, de-oscillification whatever on Mr. Slover's bike . . .
Steve is about as hard headed as you can get. . . . can you imagine sitting at America's newest race track with an 1125R, on the nicest day of 2008, waiting to get back on the track . . let's just say he was "motivated". By the way . . . this is sure a nice car. Neighbor just bought one in yellow and I asked him why he doesn't take it to the track . . .
I like this shot. . . But if you think Steve had a bad day . . . well, his paled in comparison to this guy's . . .
Likely the most photographed vehicle of the day. I got there right after the shit canned 996 that was sitting with it was taken away . . . .there is much to be said for getting your jollies on a $10,000 Buell |

That's just the rear fender . . . . the front, during the spin, got hammered worse than this. As I told the young man opining about how much the repair would cost . . . . . "figure about 4 Mini-Coopers and the good news is that if you can afford the $175,000 for the car, the repair is a nuisance, not a problem" |

It's more than just a fender - suspension and probably sub-frame. I'd guess north of $25K. Plus labor. Reminds me of the old RR salesman's joke, "Yes, yes Sir...I know you can afford to buy the car. The question is, can you afford to keep it??" |

Thanks, Steve. I was happy you could get back out to salvage the day. Hey Court, did you get any shots of us on the track? Love to see some evidence that I got my knee down on an S3T! Wish you could have hung out longer, too. Perhaps when we race on the 30th |

The steering damper is on a the Buell of a fellow rider (Slover). I REALLY wanted to appropriate that gas cap.... |

I was glad to help a fellow badwebber out on the track with my service manual. It is an easy thing to do. There have been times when I was the only Buell guy at the track, knowing that if something went wrong you better be prepared. If I get a chance I'll post pictures of the rig. As far as who I am stop by a the track share a cup of coffee and we can talk. I ride with Team Promotion, and in my opinion an outstanding organization, they don't care what you ride, and will help you to ride at levels you may have only dreamed about. My wife comes with me most times and helps out, she even rides her Lighting on the track. My friend Harley_Jethro just couldn't make NJMP this day, he would have ridden and like to talk to Court. Well now you know a little about me. I know Court has more pictures of the day, and would like a few if he as time to send them. Gentlemen the 1125r is excellent on the track, if you are unsure get to the Buell demo day. Note: A few corrections to the post, first I'm from PA, and second my last name is spelled SLOYER. No offense taken. |

Walt, Thanks again. The schematic confirmed our suspicion that the plug was the issue. I've got to tear down the bike to get at that plug so I can safety wire it closed. Did I read in your manual that I have to rotate the engine to get at it? I was hoping I could get it from the top. Where in PA are you? I'm in Hunterdon County, Jersey. |

I'm pretty sure you can get to the plug from the top, with the air box baseplate removed. (and maybe the throttle body) If not the airbox needs to come of anyway to rotate the engine. In order to pull the stick coil itself out the engine would have to be rotated down. (which is not really that difficult) |

Steve: You need: 99491-08Y - 1125R Service Manual 99572-08Y - 1125R Parts Manual I was WRONG the other day. The ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC MANUAL (99493-08Y) is XB only and has no info on the 1125R. The Service Manual has all the info you'll need. |

FWIW: The engine does not have to be rotated to remove the front plug/ coil-over. One of our other 25r riders already replaced his plugs and was able "hold-his-mouth" just right and remove the coil-over. Username: Chameleon, Full Name: Paul M Edwards. Josh if you gave them the 99949-08Y part number than you did. If you gave them the 99943-08Y then you did not. If you told them order you the Electrical Diag manual for the 1125R without specifying the part number then let us hope "they ordered you the correct one". When I ordered mine I told my parts guy to order the Service and Electrical manual for the 1125R without specifying any numbers and I received the correct manuals. |

Yeah, to get the lower airbox assembly off, you still need to remove the ram air snorkel, so you just have to be careful around that plug. Steve, we could probably see if that's covered under warranty if you want to try a new harness side connector. Either way, I'm going to safety wire ours front & rear on the race bike. |

Josh: Looks like you are in great shape. When I got my 2008 manuals I only got the XB ED manual, not realizing there was an 1125R ED. I've got all my 2009's on the way and will get caught up with the 2008's that came out late. Let me know if you had any problems and we can get you fixed up pronto. Court |

There is not a thread that I am aware of but I am compiling my list as I read through the manuals and if you have something you can send it to me or use the form in the front of the book that goes back to Tech Pubs. |
