Runs really uncomfortable Hot,but no eng. light.Great power, does,t burn oil,dip-stick burns my balls!Computer says heat sens.once again engine runs great, oil pressure 14 lbs when hot, really hot!About down 3 lbs.Shop man. says heat sens can cause issues. Can bad heat sens do this?Butch |

Yes your oil pressure is down to 3 psi? at idle when hot that sounds a little to low I would change the temp sensor head temps can run over 400F at idle while standing the engine temp is one of the paramaters that the ECM uses to calculate the injector timing. ( mixture ) BTW that is a beautiful sled you have there I have enjoyed the pix Ride safe. Jim. |

Ya Jim 6 psi at idle hot really Hot,but runs great!Fuel mileage up from 46 to 54 mpg.Makes sense about telling inj. what to do.Have ordered new heat sensor out of NYC,dealers around here not in stock and is back order from Bull. When running normal oil press. was op. temp was 9 idle,17 runing.Butch |

Bad heat sencer May be retarding inj timing = Hot. (Message edited by ebutch on August 07, 2008) |

Butch: If the sensor is "shifted" ( a term form the FSM ) the ECM "is being told" that the engine is colder than it is or Hotter than it is I dont know if the temp effects timing I would think so. if the OP is in the 15 psi range while running thats ok My bike as ~7/10 psi at idle, BTW Mobil 1 air cooled Vtwin is the shiznitz valve train quieter better pressure too. Ya Jim I was talking about heat sens to injectors in sense timing.Got new heat sens , but still runs uncomfortably hot.I put another oil pump on it that I had no difference. Will do a continuity test on sens to computer, wire ,then valve leak down test. The bike really runs good but this heat problem .Even put on Buell accessory cylinder fan that I had too,no diff. Also use Mobile 1 20/50 V formula too. Try using synthetic oil, it may lessen temps. Other thoughts are that you may be running lean, or timing may be off. Your bike shouldn't be running excessively hot, my 1999 S3 doesn't. You may wish to check your ECM fuel map with ECM Spy program. Good luck Jim |

Thanks Jim may have too learn how to do spy test. |

Jim99, err Mobil 1 20/50 IS synthetic Butch I tried that once and could not get a reading (perhaps I did it wrong) the "spy test" Jim99 is refering to is obtaining a copy of ecm spy with cable Then reading and checking the fuel tables for errors BTW ECM spy is free if you have fuel injection you can use it to reset the TPS, check codes, set AFV, AND adjust the fuel maps [ re-jet ] While I cant rule a problem out inside the ecm, try the externals first, ECM's would seem to be reasonably reliable, sensors and mechanicals not so much so. air leaks can cause the mixture to go lean and cause extra heat. failed head temp sensor USUALY causes a rich or varrying mixture condition shifted timing failed 02 sensor controls mixture while riding failed intake air temp. partialy blocked injector what do the plugs look like ? lean / rich? |

Missed the type of oil used! Mobil synthetic is fine oil. Oldog has it right, check these items and you should find the problem. When you check the plugs, if you find them a whiteish color, that indicates a lean condition, which can cause a hot running engine. |

Hey Three Jims:My balls are no longer burning! My rear cyclindr. valve vent plugged with teflon. My doing!Oil press now 18 lbs warm engine, back to normal.I had to replace drive belt 9 teeth missing!Did it all on bad-web info. without iso tool.Only took me a mouth.Butch |

Ok so I got this right, rear cylinder crank case vent valve plugged you have s2/s3 bikes no iso tools and changed it that has to be a story, I have had to change 2 on the X1 it a lot easier, I am glad you got the bike sorted, they certainly nice! |

Ya S2T is easy too but S3 almost had to disassemble all of bike from tank to back of bike to put a belt on.My biggest prob. was holding front of bike down.used Goop to glue front tire to shop floor! It worked!!!Pull frame up jack engine up with both pucks in place, use 18" pry bar to aline iso bolt holes by my self.Hope idon,t have to do this soon! The bike is a lot of fun hard ernt!PS even had to pull oil pump to get oil tank line back on oil tank.
