I noticed that the pro series exhaust that I love that came on the bike has quite a bit of surface rust on it. What should I do to clean that up, and try to prevent future rust? I especially would like to keep the exhaust in good condition since I can't replace it. | ||

Rustoleum BBQ paint or sand it down and use the hi temp header ceramic paint sold in auto parts stores. EZ | ||

I did a quick Google search and found a place in Indy with a nice looking website (naturally, I know nothing personally about their reputation or reliability but they are close to you)...www.indypowdercoating.com hope this helps...their prices look very reasonable. | ||

Called them. Only $125 bucks to take care of it. I will probably take it over there in the winter, as they need it for a week... Now this starts another conversation, what else should I get powder coated  | ||

Indy..ask them to coat the pipe inside and out..the inside coating acts as a thermal barrier...the exhaust gasses retain more heat..the more heat in the gasses, the less dense it stays...lower density gasses flow easier...less restriction. It will add some power...not much in a 500cc engine but it's worth mentioning. On the powdercoat for the wheels..great idea, I'm going to do it when I can get my hands on a spare set of wheels...but talk to the coater about the finish material..there are two different types of coating...one material makes a really nice finish, but is eventually damaged by sunlight causing chalking...the other material does not gloss as well, but will hold up to sunlight...both are resistant to most solvents and chemicals so cleaning is a snap. | ||

what about wrapping the exhaust? does anyone recommend it? My exhaust has no longer black more like rust colored | ||

Don't wrap it...if it is already rusty it will get worse...I was going to say that if you lived in a desert or something it would be ok...but I looked and you live in Florida too...spend the bux to have it ceramic coated...you could take it off, have it media or sand blasted to COMPLETELY remove the rust, and paint it with header paint...but it will not last. Header paint is not water proof... Getting it wet while riding isn't the problem...the wrap will soak up and retain moisture while it is sitting...I have seen a TON of exhaust pipe rust out from using wrap...and i'm sure there of people that have done it with no problems...but that hasn't been MY experience...maybe it's a Florida thing. | ||
