How soon does your low fuel light come on? On mine when it does and I go to fill up it seems to take between 2-3 gallons of gas. I was thinking with the gas tank capacity of 5.3 gallons it would be like 3-4 gallons. |

i know when mine comes on i can go 22.5 miles before i'm out of fuel. so in other words, if it comes on i'm probably f@cked. |

Mine comes on consistently when I have used 4.3 gallons. That translates to a bit more than 150 commute miles or 120 fun miles. And like No_rice says.. time to get gas within the next 25 miles. Any more than that and you are pushing the bike (DAMHIK). |

You won't make 25 miles unless it's all downhill. 22.5 right on the nose and then: brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... click. crap. Done it a couple of times. It's a testiment to the 1125r's comfort that I can ride 150 miles and *FORGET* to gas up because I'm in the twisties. I've had it happen twice. |

Mine takes 4.3 gallons after the light comes on as well. |

So, it must be 5.3 gallon capacity , but she cant drink all the way to the bottom . If there's a gallon left , and a range of 150 miles is like 35 , and 120 miles is around 28mpg , then reserve should be 28-35 miles , I assume we're all getting better than 22 mpg . |

When I ran out I filled 5.15 gallons. There's a smidge left in there that the fuel pump can't pick up. |

Well I guess that would mean mine would seem to be broken. Now the real debate take it in or fix it myself? Mind you I only got it back recently from a crash and really don't feel like spending the entire summer bikeless, plus past experience has shown technicians are not electricians. This is based on experiences as a customer and as a teacher, to the service manuals I suppose. |

has anyone noticed that, if you happen to be riding in the twisties, after the low fuel light comes on, that the low fuel mileage counter will reset itself to zero and start counting again .... my XB does not do this so I feel very comfortable with how far I can go....the 1125...I pull into the next gas station I see |

My XB would reset itself a couple of times when it first came on. No different than the 1125R. |

I have noticed that when I get the fuel sloshing around the tank and I am right at the point the reserve kicks in that the light will flash and the counter goes from "fuel" to "odo". Which makes sense. Your right though...it's about that time i start looking for the gas stations. |

that's what i have. just to make sure i understand what you're saying, when the light comes on, the low fuel OD starts at zero. Your 1125r does this and the cityX does not? |

my XB starts at 0 and counts from there with no issues my 1125 starts at 0 and while riding in the twisties it will reset to 0 even though I have not added any gas to the tank....so in other words.... if I am driving straight up n down with no leaning and the low fuel counter starts to show distance driven while in the reserve portion of the tank...lets say it is showing 5 miles now now I enter a canyon that is 10 miles long and the counter should show about 15 miles upon exiting this canyon....but only shows about 2 miles this is telling me that while in the turns the sensor thinks that fuel has been added to the tank, and then when in upright position...is says it is now low again...and starts the count all over again bottom line is that I don't trust the low fuel mileage counter on my 1125 (Message edited by bobup on August 06, 2008) |

My low fuel light comes on at about 4.3, but will not stay on constant. It will come on and then go off a couple times and then at about 4.5 it comes on and stays on. I am getting 28mpg average and the reserve is 0.8, which also corresponds with the light staying on at 4.5, so I can get approximately 22.4 miles off 0.8 gallons (28x0.8=22.4)when the light comes on and stays on. '06 XB9SX. My low fuel light goes off and on a couple of times also when I get into the twisties, but the counter never resets to "0". Ride Safe. |

The counter will reset only if enough time has passed to make the system think it has been refueled. If the bike is pointing downhill, the fuel light will come on before the remaining volume actually is .8 gallon. This will start the counter. If one is to go up a long hill, the light goes off right away and if the hill is long enough (I do not know how long "long enough" is) then the counter will reset as well thinking the bike has been refueled. You notice this after refueling at a gas stop. The counter does not reset to zero immediately after a fillup. It does after a half mile or so down the road. Therein lies the glitch. |

Good info Asbjorn. Thanks. I just never go more then 150 miles and gas up wherever I am and reset my trip #1 mileage to zero. Easy enough and very sure. Why stretch it with some unnecessary results. |

can anybody tell me why the bike doesnt have a gas gauge? |

my favorite is the fact that the fuel pump is on the opposite side as the xb's so if your gas light kicks on right before you park it. odds are it wont start back up unless you sit on it to warm it up. by moving the fuel pump they put it on the up hill side of the tank and all the fuel goes to the down hill side when on the kick stand. i got pretty pissed one day when i couldnt get it to start on the kickstand. i sat on it and was messing around when it fired. put it back on the kickstand to put my helmet and gloves on only to have it die again. then i finally figured out what it was. |

Lionboy70: Evidently, Erik is not aware that gas gauges exist. I'm not familiar with any buell that has one. As far as my low fuel light, it comes on with about a gallon or so left in the tank. |

Am I the only one that has the low fuel light come on whenever it wants? My light use to come on when there was about 1gal left. After the cluster was replaced now it comes on 30miles after filling up, 60 miles or whenever. When it stays on and there is 120miles on the tank its time to fill up. The dealer said its "normal". That's there "normal" line they give me when I have a problem. |

Chevy, why haven't you taken your bike to a different dealer yet? |

Not sure if its related but went riding today and now it doesn't ask for my PIN despite being set to do so. I am thinking of living with my problems till its about the end of the season then I will drop the thing off at the dealer and they can figure out why I am having electrical issues. Just hops no new ones develop. |

In previous threads on odd IC behavior it has been suggested that it helps to reset the ECM. The way to do that is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and connect it again. That forces the ECM to boot up again from the defaults. Odd instrument cluster behavior can also be the result of marginal battery level. |

Badlionsfan, I can get crappy service right hear in town and don't even have to go very far. The next dealer is a ways away and I really don't have the time to screw with it right now. I don't really know if the next closest dealer is any better. I would be really ticked to take the bike 80 miles to get the same service I get locally. I think the bike will be stored this winter at the Buell dealer with the list of things they need to fix. It should be a really nice challenge for them. I just hope the bike will still work when they are done. The thing that bugs me the most is that I am a mechanic and would never pull the crap on my customers that my Buell dealer pulls with me. I guess that's why I have a good strong customer relations. I might have to get a third job and work for Buell to get my bike fixed. |

I've read many of your posts, and really feel for you man. After test riding one I can totally understand your frustration having such a fun ride that just isn't right. Have you contacted Buell customer service about your issues with the bike and dealer? Have you tried contacting our resident insider Court to see if he can help in any way? Just tryin to help out a fellow Michigander (Go Blue!) |

Badlionsfan, I have talked with Buell probably over 15 times. Usually its about technical info but I have told them that I am not happy with the dealer and their training. It only makes sense to train someone on the bike before you can sell it. I had to go to a class on the Duramax diesel before my dealer could sell it. At least I had seen one before I had to work on one. |

That just sucks man. Of all of Buells issues, this one is the one that turns more people off to Buell than anything. |

When the light comes on and stays on, my bike takes 4.5 gallons. ----------- Lionboy70 - I like the fuel light more than a gas gauge; it took me a while to realize that I like the fuel light more than an analogue gas gauge. I know that when the light comes on and stays on I have about 20 miles maximum left. My mid-90s Ninja 600 has an analogue fuel gauge and it is not very accurate - it's a pain trying to estimate how much I 'really' have left in the tank. Eric's digital method is fine.
