Finally got in for surgery last night. Ended up with crash bars sticking out of my arm. Looks like I have around 6 weeks to get the bike ready for the road. It's not too bad, thank goodness for the sliders I installed just before the ride. Thanks again for being a great group of friends. Harv |

Lisa... I did not see the BEAVER! all kinda crap happens when I'm not there... What's goin' on here??????
??????? Harv, I see the aerodynamisist worked over time designing that little ground-effect unit ya got. Very cool dude! Probably an extra four to five MPH! I'll finaly have $ for new belt tomorrow (friday), and there are none in available in my state. Al is out and won't have any 'till next Friday at best. But Latus has SIX. $28.00 for shipping is cheaper than driving there, so I'm gona over night that sucker and be back on the road by Sunday, dammit! Uncle Bob is gona be gone, (his and Deb's anniversary!) but let me in his garage/shop in his absence. What a brave guy. Can you imagine all the stuff I can screw up in there by myself? My God, (yes, He's mine), the mind boggles. And as for Desperation, the belt from them was $25.00 MORE than from Downtown H-D, American Sport Bike, or Latus! I like a couple of the parts guys. I hate a couple of the parts guys. I have ordered brake pads, and gotten two left-side pads. I have ordered a handlebar, and gotten the wrong ones, then the replacement came bent where it wasn't supposed to be. I just kept it... I have ordered a ... oh who cares, they suck suck suck suck suck... suck. photo thanks to Long John Boy |

It was great seeing you all again! And hope to do so again real soon. Jim and I were putting our heads together for Border Raid. Here are some random thoughts: There's no point in travelling loaded each day. (With luggage, that is. A bit of lean juice always works for me.) If we headed out from Penticton on Sunday and kept going after the ferry, our next overnight would be too far away to get home on Monday, especially for the Southern Washington crowd. The new roads that we would like to ride are further east. How far east of Osoyoos would you southerners be able to get on Saturday? Grand Forks is 80 miles east of Osoyoos. From there we could take the #3 highway for another 80 miles to Nelson and there are a few possible loops from there. 216 km. for the shortest, which includes what Destination Highways calls the best motorcycle road in the province. That's 130 miles. Plus the 160 miles round trip from Grnad Forks to Nelson. (which is a nice senic ride on a secondary highway.) Of our traditional route, hubbing at Penticton we have heard that the Westside Road, that twisty little road that bypasses Kelowna, is rumoured to be the subject of a major crackdown by the Revenue Collecting Motorized Patrol. But we could just do a repeat of previous years if you would like. Alternatively, a shorter day ride on the Sunday would be a loop around the lake, along Green Mountain Road to Oliver, then from Osoyoos east to Rock Creek then north through Beaverdell to Kelowna and back down again to Penticton. That loop we could actually start from any point, so we could hub at Osoyoos if we could find a motel. I'll be checking about accomodation at Grand Forks. Let me know what you think. |

I don't know... seems I remember talk of going Easterly to some new squiggly lines seen on the map last year. Where the hell is JIMMY anyway when ya need him? He was spoutin' talk of all kinda geographical latitudes and the assorted tangents and altitudes that could be taken with the correct lean angles applied. Of course I knew it was all nonsense, and yet... I'm convinced! Where the hell do I sign up? I get to drive to Portland to pick up my new belt tomorrow. I can't wait 'til Monday and the UPS goofus, I NEED MY BIKE! So here are more Laurals for Bob... As if letting me in his shop ALONE wasn't enough, he's got my bike up on the wench waiting for me, with the tools put out I'll need for the project... what a pal. And I promise to be carefull with the welder... I haven't burned anything down in ages... |

Thanks Eric, I thought it might be the next weekend, giving me a little more recoup time. I had a little set back last night as a couple of the pins became disconnected from the clamps on my new crash bars apparently during a high speed sleeping incident. I spent another 5 hours in the hospital to be told that there was no one qualified to reassemble the crash bars (presumably made by Buell exhaust engineers). So back in the hospital tomorrow to experience more of our enviable "free" health care system. I still can't wait to get back on that Triple though! Ride Safe Harv |

Well, Betty is back. I slapped her with a new belt, and she's behaving nicely now. Very nicely. As Mick has said, " under my thumb...it's kinda mean, the way she speaks when spoken to..." At least she's learned her lesson. For now. I know she drives me nuts with how fickle she can be, but when I get back in the saddle... well I haven't had it better, if ya know what I mean. Eric, I just follow the plan, I don't make them. Thanks for spearheading the planning comittie |

I'm confused as to the timing of it all for Border Raid. Is everyone leaving home Saturday morning? If so then we'll go with Grand Forks, if you all agree that's within range. If that seems too far, could we do Osoyoos Saturday, then go through Grand Forks, do our loop, then bite the bullet for a longer ride home? If anyone wanted to come up Friday night to Vancouver, we could house a few in our humble home. If everyone wanted to be in the area Friday night, we should maybe roll east Friday night a couple of hours. |

Well team, here it is. Due to misfortunes beyond my control I won't be able to attend this years BordeRaid. My daughter is leaving for college that same weekend, and has made it quite clear that I must be there to give her away. Since I've been waiting for this for 18 years , well, I can't ditch... |

I think it had already died due to lack of interest, Bob. I'll concede that I dropped the ball in terms of drumming up a hotel for a new route. I was hoping to do a trial run through there this month since my sister lives in the Kootenies but couldn't manage between time and weather. Anyway, the Canadian continent was looking so thin, I didn't figure there'd be much interest from down south. Harve:injured Don and Lorraine: half injured Stu:abanodoned us for family and dirt Jim:gone to Italy. I was seeing just John and Mark as local reps. Then Shawn called. His Buell is still disassembled but he intends to ride the Shovel to the Okanagan with Kathy and maybe do a wine tour if no-one else shows. Deb:injured Galen:letting family get in the way of riding!! Mike:injured Ron:gone hiking Bob:God knows what There's a baseball tournament in Grand Forks so no hotels available. Fall-back to the old route and the Penticton Lakeside is no longer an option as they only have two rooms left. Although other Penticton hotels may have space. My front isolator is split halfway but should make one more ride before winter tear-down. Tires have one more ride in them too. Jim, Galen, and Harve want to do a SPLASH redux this fall so I'm going to save my finances and bike for that. So, with regrets, and hopes for a more organized and better attended event next year, I am pulling the plug on it. For myself, anyway. I'll pass on Shawn's number to amyone who might want to join him. |

Well People, I'm sorry to have contributed to the demise of the 2008 Border Raid but we can't let this thing die. I say that we find a way to get together one more time this year. If it's a SPLASH "redux" then so be it. If anything is going to happen we should try for mid to late September. I'm really getting sick of the crash bars screwed into my arm!! Gotta get back in shape and get at least a few rides in this year. Harv |

I guess you can't have a boarder raid, with no raiders! Is there anyone lurking that is planning to come up from the good old US of A? The weather in Penticton is looking pretty nice for the weekend too. Not too hot, not too cold, not too wet, just right for riding :-) I can't say that I don't have my own challenges, as my new shock has yet to arrive, but I do have a contingency plan and can/will do a ride. To the Brother and Sisterhood of PNW, with much deliberation and a heavy heart, this is the official notice that Loni and I will not be attending Boarder Raid this year. We have a lot of stuff to do before the school year begins. We want full reports from anyone who makes an effort this weekend. Until next time, Chris |

Sorry to hear no border raid this year but I would not have been able to attend anyway as I went with a friend to SW Colorado last week and spent 5 days and 2000 miles searching out twisties. We explored nearly everything paved in that part of the state and found it extremely scenic but most of the roads had long straight sections to get to the twisties. The Rockies are just too damn big! I'm up for a Splash redux this fall if it works out and still willing to host/guide on some very cool central Oregon roads if anyone is up for it. Keep on riding! MG |

A good Buell turnout would be nice! For those who haven't been it is the wildest assortment of bikes in the NW, old Nortons, two stroke Yamahas, custom choppers you name it it's there! A ferry ride from Tacoma or West Seattle, everyone gathers in town for breakfast, then a poker run around the island, and on to the gun club for a bike show. Cycle World did an article on the Isle a couple of months ago, it's still a pretty well kept secret. SEE YA THERE! |
