I just replaced my rear isolators last night after finding that the right side had a tear in it and it was klunking through my right footpeg. When I removed the old isolators I found that both of them were shifted in that the side that contacts the frame was 1/4" forward of the surface that contacts the swingarm block.I do not recall observing this conditon prior to disassembly. I did not readjust any of the links when I put it back together and everything looks straight. I replaced the front iso last week after I found a tear in the underside of it. mmigrad had mentioned an alignment as a possible contributing factor in naustin's repeated front iso failures on his S-3 during his trip through the NE. Anyone have any explanation or plausible theories? |

I assume that you compared the old ones to the new ones, in reaching that conclusion, I may go ahead and do the rear ones the X1 rear isos are not a huge job to change a heart felt aww sh1t to you guys with solid frames I have read that procedure and it sounds like a pain. |

Yes I am comparing the tired torn iso with the fresh new one. The strange thing is that the distortion wasn't apparent when they were installed. It's like the front motor mount is pushing backwards. I used a 1 1/4 x 5/16 bolt and nut in the right side footpeg mounting hole to spread the frame for the installation. It worked great. I had to trim a fair amount off of the locating pins to bring them into spec. Al at American Sport Bike was just over 1/2 of what the dealer was charging including the shipping and it is the upgraded Buell part. Leaving work to go home and test ride. |
