If you have the short stock windshield, I haven't heard of the problem. If you are using the taller windscreen, then yes, it has happened to many. There was a recall for the taller windscreen and uses 2 bolts for the bottom screen mounts on the flyscreen. | ||

yes i have the tall one it is stock on all 08 uly is there anything i can do so this does not happen again ? | ||

mine also have the bottom bolts but the hook into that damm rubber mounts and that is where i think the problem is | ||

There are, for some reason, two different mounting methods available for the tall windshield. My 2008 XT has bolts in the bottom that go into wellnuts. I rattled one out on the way home from Wisconsin. Thankfully the other stayed put and I didn't lose the windshield at 80MPH on the freeway. The recall kit that he's referring to included actual nuts and washers to be placed on the inside of the flyscreen to attach the lower portion of the windscreen. Why on earth they didn't keep this method for the 2008s I'll never understand. If you want to keep the stock windshield mounting location, my suggestion would be to put a little blue loctite in there and snug it down good. Note that you might have a lot of trouble getting them back out later, without removing the flyscreen and holding onto the wellnut. I got myself a set of Strada's brackets and called it a day, after being told I would have to order ten each of the stupid spacers and bolts by the dealership, when it probably should have been considered a warranty issue. | ||

thank you that was a alot of help the dealer ordered the same type of junk and now that my windshield is all scracthed up i reeckon i have to get that to thank you again | ||

 These things work great, why they went to well nuts is...  Disregard the plugs on the right, they're to plug the flyscreen holes if you remove the shield. | ||

Had my short windshield blow off when I was doing a top speed run. It left a mark on my helmet! Dealer was nice and warranted me a new one, but I had to ride around all ugly and shield less for a few days till it came in. | ||

That's where those little plugs come in.  9/16" ...I could only find white and had to spray paint them. | ||

The well nuts are fine if you do not over tighten them (DAMHIK) and they allow you to remove the windshield without removing the fly screen. I just ordered new well nuts for mine. Buell needs some kind of tightening spec on them, like "turn X number of turns after seating..." | ||

"T" nuts (generally for adding threads to wooden panels) work very well. They insert from behind and are held in place with a few spots of super-glue. This allows the use of screws from the front, making the windscreen easily removable. Parabellum shields are shipped with this hardware. Mark in Arizona | ||

That's where those little plugs come in. ; ) 9/16" ...I could only find white and had to spray paint them. Are they 9/16? I tried that size and they seem too small. Was going to try a 5/8. | ||

I have a bunch of 5/8" that I bought and couldn't get the damned things to go in. The 9/16" certainly aren't a real tight fit, but they lasted ~600 miles with no issues before I put the Strada brackets on. | ||

Ah. OK, I kind of had the feeling the 5/8ths wouldn't have worked either. |
