I'm curious... I am planning on shelling out for a Zumo 550 but wonder what advantages would I get with this one over the 550? Is it going to be a better price I wonder? How much are the 550's in the US and where could I get the best price?
that's a great price there krassh. of course i'm always leary about ordering stuff on line, especially electronics. so i would wonder how legit this place is. i found out from my daughter that the buell zumo now featured cost them 639 plus you add 10% and tax and that's employee cost. so you couldn't go wrong with a 601 price.
I bought mine from PCNation and the service was among the best I have ever had for an online purchase.
Electronincs (in my personal experience) are a lot like cameras. I buy LOTS of Nikon equipment and if I see someone pricing stuff much below J&R, Adorama and B&H I know there is something else going on.
If Adorama id $4,999 for a De and Broadway photo has it for $3,500 I know the deal is literally "too good to be true".
I buy LOTS of stuff on line and was thrilled with PCNation and the Zumo 550.
I'm driving through Brooklyn the other day . . . guy is coming toward me in the other lane/direction, flashing his lights and waving out the window for me to stop. I pull along side him and he points to the back of the van and asks "wanna buy a complete home entertainment system with surround sound cheap?"
I told him . . . as I picked up the Motorola walkie-talkie on the seat "I don't need one but let me check with the guys at the Precinct".
End of meeting.
Fact is. . .it you are buying a Zumo MUCH cheaper than Amazon or PCNation you've effectively had the "caveat emptor" horn blown in your ear.
Hey Court. Was the guy driving a white van and sporting a gotee? Exact same thing happened last week here in Knoxville to one of the guys I work with. Makes you wonder if it's a national scam or national sting.
PC Nation has a "presence" in Illinois so I would have had to pay the eight whatever percent state sales tax here. Buydig.com also has pretty great reviews and does not have to charge sales tax in Illinois, so I got my 550 from them earlier this year for $648 delivered. The box arrived in about three days! even though I chose the free shipping option which was supposed to take longer.
I think you get dinged for sales tax by Buydig if you live in Jersey, but you should confirm that yourself (of course).
The Zumo 550 bluetooth is not stereo for any application, not just the XM. I like the fact that it will play audio files (music, whatever) but I bought it knowing that if I wanted to listen to music in stereo I'd need to be wired to the device.
Before the end of this riding season (December?) I plan to get a Scala BT system for navigation prompts and (hopefully) rider/pillion communication. I'll try to keep the board posted with my results.
I just did a quick google search initally and the cheapest that showed, normally I go look on nextag. Looks like preferred photo is one those sites that have rock bottom prices and try to sell accessories at inflated prices. Also gray market devices. If I was acutally going to order I would have done some more research.
Buelldualsport, Is the XM not in stereo even if you use wired headphones?
I reserve the right to reconsider all of this when the XM/Sirius merger goes through and the pricing gets hashed out, but for now, for me, XM is not worth the cost.
I had the greatest ride the other day and have no recollection of where I went. I **think** it's stored somewhere in the Zumo and I'd love to repeat the route.
