Yeow! Those rearsets are beautiful. But at $605 (!) and at the rate I break shift levers (I cleaned out my dealers entire stock of shift levers in one season), I'll pass. |

Anyone know if an oil tank from an X1 will fit my 2000 S3? I ask because it has a slightly larger capacity, and two quarts is not much for a 1,200 CC engine in the Phoenix heat. Are they even located in the same place? Is it possible that the extra 1/2 quart capacity on the X1 not actually due to a larger tank? More plumbing maybe? See ya' Scott |

Anybody got the Skinny on when we'll actually be able to see and touch an Lightning XB9S? I'm jones'n to check one out... maybe even give up the beloved 98 S3.... you know, as much as i appreciate and respect all that the new Firebolt is and represents, it isn't for me. the new Lightning, however, in basic black, has stirred the Buell ashes that perpetually glow in my soul. i have a beloved VFR Interceptor sitting all bright and shiny in the garage, a bike that is EVERYTHING the magazines say it is, yet.............. .................it's days may be numbered. Hey buellers. I need some help with my F/I. I am about to order the race ECM but my local dealer says it will be a couple of weeks before he has some in stock. Does anyone know where I can get one? Also...I heard where I can make a small adjustment to help on the spits and coughs I get when I hit full throttle below 4,000 rpm. Can someone tell me where this adjustment is on a 99 X1? One more...my headers are turning blue right up against the engine for about 6 inches down. Does this mean I'm running too rich or too lean and will any adjustment I can do correct it or should I wait and have my dealer put in the race ECM and reset? Thanks. Sharkus |

Ferris, Did I read correctly? Are you thinking of retiring the VFR for the new lightning? I new the embers were still burning in your soul! Jim |

Scott, As far as I know the tanks are the same. I could be wrong. What makes you think the X1's oil capacity is greater than an the S3's? |

Capt. Pete, Hans tipped me off to read your post about the sea bass. Pretty exciting! You've been busy the last two years. 500 fathoms is only about 20 miles off shore here, I should try your fishery. If you care to share your gear secrets email me, paul1@harborside.com I liked the part about stomping the hatch shut with a plugged hold, thats fun stuff when that happens. Paul |

Sharkus, You see the little banners at the top and bottom of the pages on the board? As pretty as they are, they ain't fer decoration you know. There is no adjustment you can make other than your idle speed. That may be what you are recalling. If not, the information was bad. Blue headers just mean you have a fire breathing engine. Heat turns them blue. Yeah running on the lean side causes the engine to run hotter. If your engine is not pinging or knocking it is probably fine. The EPA likes it lean. Some people don't like the bluing, I think it's too cool. The race ECM's richer mixture at low/mid range may prevent continued bluing. The bluing can be cleaned off by any of the quality products designed to do so. A plain old scotch bright pad works great. Polish circumferentially with the grain if you want to maintain a nice brushed surface finish. |

I knew the embers were still burning in your soul! yessir, the little black bastard has got me by the shorthairs (which, at my advanced age, are the only kinda hairs i have...) Erik, what are you doing to me? FB ps: hey Blake, i know this ain't the XB9S Lightning thread, but couldya toss up the pic of the black Lightning from Buell's website on here (the same pic that's in the new Cycle World)? |

Scott: I'm 99% sure that the tank won't fit since the 2 frames are different. 2 biggest helps would be Mobile 1 V-twin and maybe a good oil cooler like the Jagg. But remember an oil cooler only cools when you are moving air across it. The extra degrees worth of safety you get with a good synth. is worth the $'s IMHO. Time4Sleep Neil S. |

Speaking of synth, and without starting a big debate, I was wondering if anyone has had adverse affects running it? I know, I know; it's a touchy subject, I just can't seem to make up my mind to switch or not and can't find any factual literature on the subject. Scanning the profiles of the frequent posters here (all of which know tons more then me), it seems that almost everyone runs it. It's just that, well, the phrases "If it ain't broke don't fix it" and "Leave well enough alone" keep popping back into my head. Thanks |

Scott If you want a little extra oil capacity go to the Motorcraft FL1A automotive filter as discussed elsewhere on the board....I think it gives youy an extra 3/4 quarts of oil capacity. May be wishful thinking but I swear my M2 seems to be running cooler since switching from the small HD filter. I run this in conjunction with a Jagg cooler on my S1 as well. jim |

Al, I look forward to meeting you (and everyone else) at the the ASB BBQ. This will be my first (of many I am sure) function with other "Buellers". I passed up the LAS VEGAS BIKEFEST here in Vegas opting to hang with my own kind in Vista . Scottcolbath, I don't want to start another FL1A discussion here. That subject has been beaten to death. An easy way to get increased oil capacity is to use the Dyna filter - it's twice as long as the Sportster filter. It increased the capacity on my 00 M2 to a full 3 quarts. If you are really concerned about the heat though, get an oil cooler too. A small increase in oil capacity is not going to keep the oil cooler. |

I would have posted this in the Knowledge Vault, but since I don't know what the problem is I don't know what to put it under! My 98 S3 is starting to feel a little sloppy in the turns. The tires are fully inflated, and with my limited knowledge I can't find anything else. Could this be bearings or the infamous isolators? It only has 4200 miles on it, so I don't know. Thanks. |

How old are the tires? For maximum safety and enjoyment, periodically replace your rubbers and grease where it's needed. Josh |

The back tire has about 1000 miles on it. The front probably came with the bike (I'm the 2nd owner). It doesn't look worn though. |

AWGrimm... steering head bearings? Pretty low mileage for that unless you are a wheelie fiend. Could be just the way the tires are wearing also... even if they look fine. |

Jim, thanks for posting the pic of the black Lightning, that thing is TOOT SWEET! EBear, you gettin' yer yeller S from JJ? any estimate when it'll arrive? not to worry about getting the jump on me, pretty easy to do these days............ speakin' of EBear, he's been leanin' on me REAL hard to come down for Tat's BBQ, and the force is indeed strong. so, anybody down Vista way got a place where i (and maybe a buddy) could crash for the night? we don't smoke, but i do snore......... one last thing: i thought i was being a little frisky asking to tie up some bandwidth with the pic of the Lightning on here, but after seeing SUZUKIS????????? cluttering up the place i don't feel so bad......................
