A bunch of us took a leisurely ride out the North Fork to have lunch at Claudio's in Greenport this past Sunday. Since we arrived a bit too early (I TOLD everyone we should've slept in for another hour) we wandered around the shops until the clam bar was open for lunch. In our wandering, we came across a strange combination of Buell and Chopper parked on the street. The owner wasn't around and I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about it (no photos, sorry). It was gray, with a hardtail frame, and clip-on bars nearly hidden by the bulbous tank. It had a Lightning X-1 engine with wrapped straight pipes. No turn signals (how the heck did he get it licensed for the street), and the only "instruments" we could find was a small cluster of LEDs near the throttle body on the left hand side and a very small digital speedo right next to it. To me, this was a great way to take a good motorcycle and turn it into an abomination, but that's just me... |

jamiec- I believe I know the scoot to which you're referring- I believe it belongs to a member of the "Eastern Legion M/C", I've seen it at the LI HA clubhouse. |

FYI: There were no "Supporter" stickers on it (first thing we looked for). |

Tramp, it just looked like the kind of bike that would have some kind of "Supporter" sticker on it. If it did, it would've made it easier to figure out who it might've belonged to. |

What about that god-awful looking thing that reportedly washed up on the beach at Montauk?? I've been seeing pictures of it on the news the last couple of days:
Sure you want to go in the water, there, Trampster? rt |

Jaime, we probably crossed paths and never knew it as I took one of my last minute " pick a place to turn around rides" which got me to Southold before I bailed back south Sunday Morning. As far as the "Montauk Monster goes", That there is a Plum Island Puma! A result of the DNA pairing of the thought extinct Dodo and Garry Coleman. A diabolical creature indeed. I also passed Brookhaven Labs, home of LI's own Super Collider! I always sleep sounder at night knowing a guy named Ted from Speonk can accidently open a hole in the space time continuum at any moment.

If we passed one another you probably didn't notice me because I wasn't on my XB12Ss. Since I was out with my club's "Tortoises" I took the K1200LT instead. Figured if the pace wouldn't keep me awake, the loud head-banging music I was playing on the stereo would! |

Tramp, How long are you going to Montauk for? I shoot photos of the surfers at ditch on the weekends. If you are around stop by and say hello. I will be the guy with the camera. I will be going out on Tuesday night to set up my camper out on Shagwong beach for the week. I will be getting into town about 8:00 pm. PM me a phone # and I will give you a call when I get into town. If you get a chance stop in the Aloha Art Gallery and you can check out some of my photos. Mike- I'll check them out- not sure if I'll hit "The Plains" instead of Flying Point inlet...either way, we'll be hitting the Lobster Roll for runch (HVC inside larf)... I'll be the goofy with the blonde pony tail, camo wetsuit and, likely, yellow & orange 6'3 Ronjon. Makos dig me. |

Tramp, The Lobster roll is a great place to eat. Carl, the owner is one of my good clients. My daughter is working at Espos new surf shop on the strip a few buildings down from the roll on the north side of the street. Here is a link to some shots from Saturday: http://mjrphoto.smugmug.com/gallery/5615877_uB5nS# 344858197_jYQq3 Mike Long Island, NY 06 XB12X Black of course |

I know Espos, and the CIA chefs at "Lunch" all kick ass- cool you know Carl. ...You know Lars from Main Beach? I miss "Real Surfers" with their lineup of Robert Augusts. GREAT old shop. I used to line near Sunrise to Sunset, in SH, for a couple years in the 80s. Lousy shop. |

That one shot looks like Lars! Fun to see all those folks enjoying the knee-high look for a 46-year old version of this little bastard, out there (from your pictures, from yesterday), and it'll be me. http://mjrphoto.smugmug.com/gallery/5615877_uB5nS#344862692_dqMit (Message edited by tramp on August 04, 2008) |
