Ok. I bought my 07 XB9Sx three months ago. Two weeks after I got it, the muffler started rusting along the entire bottom side. Dealer (reluctantly) replaced it. two weeks later, more rust! different dealer (I moved in between)repainted it. now, it's rusting again. I'm in florida, and if it keeps rusting, I'm not going to be a happy bueller. My dealer now is saying that they won't do anything else under warranty. I refuse to repaint my exhaust every 2 weeks. Any suggestions? |

Have any pictures? Its pretty normal for the stock muffler to rust a little bit. Since your in Florida, I have a feeling the corrosion will be even worse with the salt spray. |

no pics....My ($800) camera was on the back of my blast when i layed it down on I95 last feb. I live about 6 miles from the beach and work 6 feet from it. the salt is really bad here, but there's nothing i can do about that. WIth the blast, i had a crack in the header, so they let me replace it with an aftermarket exhaust that was cheaper than a stock replacement. think there's any chance of that happening this time? |

I am assuming that this is just a surface rust? Best resolution to the problem would be to take the muffler off. Completely clean it up, remove all the rust and paint. Get it powder coated or ceramic coated. |

Doubt they would let you just replace it like that with no extra costs. If you dont mind some extra noise, you might want to look into something like the jardine if you dont want to spend a whole lot on the pipe. I dont know all the pipes that are made for the buell, but most of them are a chopped up stock pipe, so they wouldnt be rust proof either. The Jardine isnt a chopped up stock pipe though and it shouldnt rust. Does need to be maintained though, like repacking the fiberglass inside of it. Sucks to hear about the camera, what brand/make/model was it? |

Drummer SS, Drummer CF, Ti Force, Micron, Tamariu(?), Remus, and Free Spirits. As far as i know, all those are Stainless Steel or Aluminum, not standard steel like the stock pipe. They should last a while longer before rusting. |

Powder coating won't stand up to the heat. Ceramic coating is best. I had good luck with Rustoleum High Temp grill paint: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/296137.html |
